I am trying to read the HKEY_USERS hive of a remote machine with this Class

The value of sSubKeyName is the user's SID + "" + Network (e.g. S-1-5-21-1606980848-2025429265-839522115-560021Network). Now under that key are various subkeys containing mapped drive letters. But it never returns anything.
Strangely, if I use the OpenRemoteBaseKey method it works BUT I don't want to use that because using WMI lets me specify alternate credentials and OpenRemoteBaseKey doesn't

i need a way to open a offline registry and read the oem info from it. The registry will be from a a hdd from another pc atached to mine. What im trying to accomplish is open the offline registry and read the model/serial info on it. i am able to read the registry of the booted system but no a offline one.

I have a vb.net app that I can read a .xls file into a dataset or loop through as oledbdatareader and it gives the same result.Some of the rows have all nulls when I loop through them but if I open the same file in Microsoft Excel I can see that row fine.[code]From the info above the first two SKU values would come through fine but when I get to the 3rd row it would show a null.Is it possible that it kind of inherits the first rows type and since the 3rd row isn't all numeric if nulls it? I am trying to read keys and values from the registry. The keys I am looking for do exist in the registry, but the variable mRegKey is still Nothing after the first line is run.I have also tried different keys under HKLMSoftware, some work and some dont. I am writing an application that connects to a specific com port. This com port can change depending on how many physical ports are on the PC, and if other USB devices have installed com ports before this one.
I have the communication to the com port all working great, but I need to get the com port description not just the "COM#" which is all I currently get.
I found in the registry where the description is stored but am having trouble doing what I need.

there is a varied number of sub keys. The are numbered 0000-NNNN depending on how many ports you have. Inside each of these keys, there are multiple values, although I am only interested in one or 2 of them.
My problem is, that I do not know how to get a list of the subkeys (the 0000-NNNN keys/folders) from the original key I posted. I have looked through a few registry tutorials, and I can view the default value in the listed key, but I could not find how to list the subkeys of the listed key.
Does anyone have any sample code they could share that shows how I can get a listing of subkeys, and then run through those subkeys checking for a specific value in one of the strings contained in the subkey?
I am using VB.net 2008 and Windows XP.

We recently came across some sample code from a vendor for hashing a secret key for a web service call, their sample was in VB.NET which we converted to C#. This caused the hashing to produce different input. It turns out the way they were generating the key for the encryption was by converting a char array to a string and back to a byte array. This led me to the discovery that VB.NET and C#'s default encoder work differently with some characters.
C#:
Console.Write(Encoding.Default.GetBytes(new char[] { (char)149 })[0]);
VB:
Dim b As Char() = {Chr(149)}
Console.WriteLine(Encoding.Default.GetBytes(b)(0))
The C# output is 63, while VB is the correct byte value of 149.if you use any other value, like 145, etc, the output matches.Walking through the debugging, both VB and C# default encoder is SBCSCodePageEncoding.I have corrected the sample code by directly initializing a byte array, which it should have been in the first place, but I still want to know why the encoder, which should not be language specific, appears to be just that.

I am trying to perform a query on an Access 2007 Database Using Visual Basic 2008. My database has a table tblStudents contains a field named Gender with Male/Female options. In VB 2008 I set up a form with a Combo box where the user can select either Male or Female to perform a query and navigate through the returned results. When i choose the 1st option in the Combo box the results are returned in the order. However when i choose the 2nd option in the combo box, i get the results in reverse order which i still could not find the reason why it does that. I'm struggling to return user details from AD using LDAP, after i have authenticated that the user exists. I am using a simple auth method as follows:

Note: the displayName.text outputs are purely for debug purposes.I have tried various combos of requests but nothing seems to return USER details. ETA: to the security police: this is all within a https connection, I'm not sending passwords about in plain text!

In a VB.NET application that runs as a service, I am getting a value of "Nothing" returned when I use Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey(). The same code executes correctly when the application runs in desktop mode. I am not much on VB.NET and unfortunately, this is not my code.

I am working on a program that needs to fetch remote windows pc's particular registry keys and then be able to modify them (for example the Run registry key). From what I have been reading I would need to use the OpenRemoteBaseKey to do so.
What I am not sure about is how do I have the program search the network for all of the Windows computers and generate a checklist when the computer names and IP addresses are not known ?
also for the OpenRemoteBaseKey to work do I have to know the password for the administrator account for each PC ?

I have no problem doing it locally but cannot get the system.management name space to do the same remotely. I'm trying to write a console application that can modify registry subkeys on remote pc's in the same network. I have it working in my own environment but when I install on the customer machines I'm getting unauthorized access when it hits the OpenRemoteBaseKey. The security settings in the application properties is set to full trust application so I'm not sure why it won't work.
I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and first I just installed it on the customer machine and when it wouldn't work I ran the source code in Visual Studio 2005 which is on the customer machine but got same results.I can run the app directly on the remote machine and it will change the registry subkeys as directed, I just can't do it remotely. RemoteRegistry service is started. Both machines are logged in as administrators.

Does My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile work with FTP? When I attempt to use it, I get the exception: "The remote server returned an error: (500) Syntax error, command unrecognized."

I've been struggling for hours now to get some working code to list the share permissions of a remote share. I've got WMI code which uses win32_share which lists the shares and path and it works great. I"m now trying to add in a routine to get the share permissions as well.I've searched just about every site for some sample code and can only find some C# (I think) code.
