Reading Csv File :: OleDBDatReader Returns Only Numbers?
Feb 5, 2012
I have following code that reads data using OleDbDataReader.The funny thing is that I can only return numbers although I converted to string.
Dim cn As New OleDbConnection
Dim fileloc = Server.MapPath("~/test/")
cn.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + fileloc +
currently i need to use 4 different texts files in order to read data and run my program, is there any way that i can just use 1 text file or 1 excel spreadsheet? here are my codes now.
Dim File1 As New System.IO.StreamReader("C:Documents and SettingsUserDesktopWindDirectionLanding.txt") 'Calling out the file. Dim File2 As New System.IO.StreamReader("C:Documents and
I need the code to filter the data entered in a textbox. Although it accepts all the characters during runtime, the code should remove all the strings and alpha numeric characters except the numbers (which would be my output). I tried the following code but guess it won't do:
a = Textbox1.text Dim value As Decimal = CDec(Regex.Replace(a, "[D]", ""))
I have a vb.net app that I can read a .xls file into a dataset or loop through as oledbdatareader and it gives the same result.Some of the rows have all nulls when I loop through them but if I open the same file in Microsoft Excel I can see that row fine.[code]From the info above the first two SKU values would come through fine but when I get to the 3rd row it would show a null.Is it possible that it kind of inherits the first rows type and since the 3rd row isn't all numeric if nulls it? [code]
I am trying to read the HKEY_USERS hive of a remote machine with this Class
Imports System.Management Imports System.Management.Instrumentation Public Enum RegHive As UInteger
[Code]....
The value of sSubKeyName is the user's SID + "" + Network (e.g. S-1-5-21-1606980848-2025429265-839522115-560021Network). Now under that key are various subkeys containing mapped drive letters. But it never returns anything.
Strangely, if I use the OpenRemoteBaseKey method it works BUT I don't want to use that because using WMI lets me specify alternate credentials and OpenRemoteBaseKey doesn't
I'm new to coding and i need to make a program that takes 3 percentages(numbers) and returns an average of the grades in letter format(A,B,C). This is what I have so far:[code]......
I have a function that returns a value of the numbers of files, folders and subfolders in a directory. But i can't seem to handle the "UnauthorizedAccessException" which i get from certain read only files or folders. I tried to use both the DirectoryInfo.GetDirectories() and DirectoryInfo.GetFiles() methods. as you can see from the code below. This exception is thrown in start of the for each loop, so i'm not able to handel it with a try, Catch Ex As UnauthorizedAccessException to cintinue the loop.
Rather interesting bit on this one, I have all the code where it should be working but whenever it hits parse1 it returns the file as null. [code] I probably just need a fresh pair of eyes because I'm not seeing where this is glitching (...or if it's just my computer in this case.)Rather annoying at this point, tried break points and following the execution to catch the error but no such luck.
I'm working on a program that stores some of its configuration information in an XML file. I'm able to read and write the xml files ok and everything works, but I would like to be able to open the xml files in other programs such as programmer's notepad. When I open the xml file in programmer's notepad, all the text is on a single line. Is there a way to embed carriage returns into the xml file?
I am working on a project in VB 2008 and need it to do this:Read first line from text file (using Openfile)Enter line into textbox on formDo some other codeThen Read second linefrom text fileEnter line into same text boxand loop until we have gone through text fileI am not sure how to read line by line from text file then enter it in textbox. I can open the Openfile and get the filename and everything, but I just am not sure how to read from it or enter that line into the textbox.Here is what I have, its not much but its a start:
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click Dim FileReader As StreamReader
I am attempting to use the VB.Net FileSystemWatcher class to watch a folder for the creation of Excel files.I do get a response when a .xls file is created in the folder, but am having a problem with the below code:
We have a vb application with many forms that contain a "lookup" button that has an icon called find.ico. Once in a while, a user will open one of these forms and get the below error but not every time. Has anyone else run into a similar situation? Since it is not consistent, it's been very difficult to track down.
The below code for some reason isn't working with filefront. I'm grabbing the URL that returns the file to download but the wc.downloadfile() code doesn't download the file. It creates an empty file called 100.rar in my temp directory on C: but doesn't have any data. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is filefronts redirect messing something up? If I put the URL I get with the fixUrl variable, it pops up the file to download in my internet browser fine.
When the button is pressed the line is written to the file just fine, but if I restart my application, which calls Refresh_OtherLog() onLoad, it displays the lines of the text file as one line with the traditional square character depicting a character return. Why is it not putting that new lone as a new line in the listbox?
Iam using this method to seach in xml file but it returns search by first word for example i have a name [url] and i write in seach box word "forum" then it will not return any result but if i write "vb" then it will return the result how to solve this problem code is here
Private Sub Button5_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button5.Click Dim b As Integer If TextBox10.Text <> "" And ComboBox1.Text <> "SELECT" Then Call sorting()
i'm having a problem w/this conversion code. as the title describes, the first file converted returns w/empty content, but w/the file name.the rest of the files are ok. here is the code, just paste in form and run.. i meant, run the app. ;o)
Public Class Form1 Private btn As New Button With {.Location = New Point(0, 0), .Size = New Size(59, 23), .Text = "txt folder"}[code]...
i just need to convert the files and have them return complete.there is an invisible richtextbox, which i needed to show files being converted in a past project..now, i need to get rid of that richtextbox if possible. too much extra work for a user's p.c...i am not at all familiar with changing extensions, etc..
I need to open a *.py file in the shell (DOS) box, but it returns an error that no file was found at the specified path. But this path is completely correct. Unless Visual Basic are referencing to paths in another matter than C#? 'Cause I am developing in C# and referenced to VB to do this.
I need to write data to a file, preferably in binary format, but I am unaccustomed with the concept. Where's the easiest place to get the basics? I could come here with a specific need, but I'm at the point right now where I am more willing to work within the confines of keeping it simple.
Here's what I know: 1. how to open a new file 2. how to specify the record length 3. how to close the file
Some specific questions:
Does the record length have to be constant throughout the file?
Can I read the nth record without reading the whole file?
I am using asp.net oledb to export information to excel file. I encounter problems when the information to export becomes too big, in this case the code I have given below, the excel file generated becomes an empty spreadsheet.If I changed the loop to 1123 for insertion of the rows. The generated excel file is fine, 1125 rows, and 4 columns shown.A test program in windows form is also working fine regardless of how many rows.[code]I couldn't find a solution to my problem as well. What I did eventually was to run the process using another separate windows service. The code works perfectly fine running from a windows form or service program, but not asp.net, not sure why.
I need some guidance on the best way to proceed with searching a file content. I have a large file (see attachment) that is in text form, some of these files could be upto 50 times as big, therefore creating a huge file. These files contain information that is produced from another application and therefore I am unable to change the format of the file.
I want to perform two hashing operations concurrently on a single file, without reading the file twice. Is there some way to share the FileStream between two synchronized hashing threads? For example:
Dim Stream As New IO.FileStream("...", IO.FileMode.Open) Dim HashA, HashB As Byte() Dim A = New System.Threading.Thread(Sub()
[code]....
Maybe some way of caching a stream? Trouble is, I don't want the entire file in memory at once (it could be many gigabytes in size) and I don't want the file read more than once, due to speed issues. I want the file cached only sufficiently to ensure that both threads can work.For example, suppose at some point in time, thread A had read 100k of the file, but thread B had only read 20k of the file. The portion of the file between 20k and 100k should be cached; but then progressively forgotten as thread B catches up. Then again, if thread B is too slow, we might still end up with hundreds of megabytes being cached.Maybe thread A should be made to wait while thread B catches up. Maybe the ReadByte() function of the stream should block for a while if one of the threads is too far behind?
I have some code which gets child items for a menu via the GetChildren function which takes a list of menuData: Dim builtMenu As New List(Of MenuData)(_rawData.FindAll(Function(item) item.GroupingID = 0))
For Each menuData As MenuData In builtMenu If menuData.Children IsNot Nothing Then menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData)) End If Next
If I check if menudata.children isnot nothing, it always is nothing because the GetChildren function is yet to run (providing the child items, which do exist). If I remove this check and just have this code:
Dim builtMenu As New List(Of MenuData)(_rawData.FindAll(Function(item) item.GroupingID = 0))
For Each menuData As MenuData In builtMenu menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData)) Next
Then I am presented with a Object reference not set to an instance of an object error on menuData.Children.AddRange(GetChildren(menuData))
friend of mine has no HTML knowledge so I'm attempting to write a program that replaces certain parts of a html file to suit his needs.I've edited the HTML file and marked certain parts with "tags" like this:
#IMAGEURL1# I have a textbox where he can copy + paste an image URL and hopefully the #IMAGEURL1# is replaced with the contents of the textbox.
So can someone please enlighten me to-as how to open a HTML file (there's no textbox to display the contents just yet, I'll add one if needed), find the specified text and then replace it with whats in a textbox.
I am trying to import a TAB (NOt comma) delimited text file into a DataGridView. The following code works fine if I have a comma separated file. All I have to do is change the FMT to "Delimited".It just does not work with FMT=TabDelimited. All columns are read into single datatable column. The text file is ANSI text and I have double checked to make sure Tabs are tabs and not spaces, even exported a sample Tab Delimited file from Excel.Can this even be done using Text Driver? [code]
