Replace Tab And CrLF Characters?
Aug 28, 2010
I have a multi line text box that accepts Enter and tab as input, but this data needs to be saved without these characters. When the user loads this data, the text should be displayed as it was originally entered. In PHP, there is a function to replace line breaks and tab characters with and , and with \. I need a similar function here.

How can I parse out undesireable characters from a collection of data?I am working with existing VB.NET code for a Windows Application that uses StreamWriter and Serializer to output an XML document of transaction data. Code below.
Private TransactionFile As ProjectSchema.TransactionFile
Dim Serializer As New Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer(GetType (ProjectSchema.TransactionFile))
Dim Writer As TextWriter
Dim FilePath As String
Writer = New StreamWriter(FilePath)
[Code]...
Because TransactionFile cannot be converted to String I get a "Conversion from type 'Transaction' to type 'String' is not valid" message.Bottom Line = How can I replace CRLF with a space when it shows up in TransactionFile data?

I have a situation where data in a field contains CrLf characters. Code has been in place for a couple of years and many records have been affected.Should I add code to catch the CrLf characters at the field level?Should I add code to catch and possibly correct the data before it is uploaded to SQL?Should I modify the upload to catch CrLf characters and possibly correct the data in the upload procedure?Whichever approach is more appropriate, how do I identify CrLf characters and then correct it.

If I set the Text property of a RTB to a string that has CrLf's in it, it seems the RTB reduces the CrLf's to a single character & screws up the positioning to set the SelectionStart property. So, for example, if I know the position of a character in the original string & I set the Selection Start value to that position, the selection highlighting will be off by 1 character if the start position is preceded by a CrLf & off by 2 characters if preceded by 2 CrLf's, etc.So how can I determine the correct position to specify my SelectionStart value?

I have a text file, the file is sent to me, but this file has a particularity, because between characters get special characters, as if the file was a binary file.I put a screenshot. I need to pick up and replace these characters by the character "-", those chracters are at position 13 to 18 on all lines. And sometimes there is a "\n" character that makes it split the line, and this should not happen.

I've used regular expressions in the past. I have an app that parses a .csv file and replaces certain characters (commas). Here's an example..
item1, item2, item3, fruits are apples, oranges, grapes. Squash is a vegetable, not a fruit.
What my app does is search each line between character1 and character18 and replace all "," with "~". How this is done through regular expressions?

To search a pattern containing parenthesis, they must be escaped using backslashes. So to search for (Streetname) you must use (Streetname). If you don't use , whatever is between () will be retained and available for reference through the variables $1, $2 etc... Exemple, in the sentence "It's worth noting that (StreetName) can be anything...(Post), (TreeStump)", $1=StreetName, $2=Post, $3=TreeStump

Using VB or C#, I am getting a string of variable length from the database. This information is sensitive information that only certain users will be able to see.I have two cases that will use the same logic (I think).scenario 1: replace all characters with xscenario 2: replace all characters with x except the last 4 characters (assume length > 4 - this check is being done).I thought that this would be easiest using Regex.Replace(input, pattern, replacestring). As opposed to a lot of string handling with substrings and forcing a length of 'x's.

I am trying to do this but it doesn't work:
VB
Dim str As String = "07" & GetBetween("Stephen 0761234567", "07", vbNewLine)Dim op As String = "lol" TextBox1.Text.Replace(str, op)
GetBetween is just a function to match something between something else. That works fine, the string (str) sets as 0761234567 just like I want but when i try to replace the text it doesn't work.

I have the following code:
Dim lStatementText As String
Dim lStatementString As New System.Text.StringBuilder
lStatementString.Append(RndRes.Forms.txt_request)
lStatementString.Append(" ")
lStatementString.Append("<b><a>")
[Code]...
Where Request.ID, Request.Description and also RndRes.Forms.txt_* are all strings. I want to display the string I build up here in a Infragistics FormattedLinkLabel. The problem is that if any of the strigs from the Request class contains a HTML character, the label is not displayed properly and the HTML encoding is broken.I need to find a function that masks the HTML codes.

If I paste code snippets, or debug.print text with CrLF line ends, to the Immediate Window they line ends are ignored and the text appears as one long string. This is very annoying behaviour on the Immediate Windows part. How do persuade the Immediate Window to honor line ends?
