Replacing Value In Richtextbox With Random Strings?
Feb 15, 2010
I am writing a little app for the kids at a local kindergarden and I have some trouble with my code. I have a RichTextBox containing several times in the text the name John. I want to replace randomly the name John with other women names like below
So I have this:
Public Sub Replacements()
RichTextBox1.Text="John goes to the car and leaves. John it's taking a nap. Since John works late so (s)he won't be home for dinner. John loves the kids and the kids love John and made a really nice picture"
Okay, here is the problem. I am using two strings, they are separated by a comma and a space. Here is the example: Original String: "David, Narkisim" New String: "Narkisim, David" What I wanna do is have to scan if the original string has the same strings as the new strings. When I load the code, it replaces David, but not Narkisim. Here is the code. It is supposed to return an empty string in the end, but it doesn't.
I'm new to VB and am trying to create something that will change specific words within a DB entry to a random word from a table. My goal is to change swear words to a random word in a separate table (like darn, dang, waterstopper, etc.) So far I have an "Input" table with the text I need to change and a "SwearRep" table with a list of words I need to replace in col "WBad" and their replacements in "WGood".
I'm a beginner who's been trying to learn Visual Basic for a couple of months now (no prior programming experience) and I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to help a newbie like me out with something.
What I'm trying to do is make a Mad Libs-style program with a multi-line textbox and a button where I type in something like:
I don't take programming lessons at school or anything, and I'm starting to (try to) teach myself about random things.Currently I'm making an app that has 3 functions:
-Random Integer (1 to 100) -Random Answer (Yes or No, similar to a coin flip) -Random Dice Roll (1 to 6)
How would I go about doing this?At the moment all I know about random numbers etc. is that I will need to do something along the lines of Dim dice As New Random or something like that, but, like I mentioned, I have no idea.I am well aware of the DIC rules that you won't write the code for me/do my "homework(?)" for me, and that's not what I'm asking.
when i copy code from vb.net code window, and paste it in my richtextbox, the color synthax is as it displays in my vb.net code window.. this i want to keep when finding and replacing words. i have the following code to find and replace,
I'm experimenting with the RichTextBox control. My goal is to replace certain user input with an image object. For example, when the user used ":-)" in the RichTextBox it will be replaced with a simple image (like ).
I use the TextChanged event on the RichTextBox to replace any found textual smiley with an image. The code below works, but only works on the first found ":-)". When the user used ":-)" twice the first image is being removed from the RichTextBox. No matter howmuch times ":-)" is found, there will only be one image in the RichTextBox (for the last found ":-)").
Private Sub RichTextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles RichTextBox1.TextChanged Dim LastIndex As Integer
[Code]....
I also don't know if the whole clipboard thing (clearing it, storing the image, restoring the original data) is the best way to do it, but I will look at that later.
I need to generate random strings in vb.net, which must consist of (randomly chosen) letters A-Z (must be capitalized) and with random numbers interspersed. It needs to be able to generate them with a set length as well.
I would like to make a program that generates a safe passwords for people to use. I want to make the passwords vary in length, include numbers, letters and upper case letters. I've been able to write code that prints out a random string but it includes unrecognized characters for most passwords. How would I write the code to create a random string that has parameters? (in this case upper case lower case letters and numbers).
I am making a html editor in visual basic 2010 for Uni and i am coming across some problems.
I'm using the richTextBox because it is more editable for what i am doing. The first of my questions is: How can I change the colour of text.
What I have done so far is add a timer that will constantly check to see if the user has entered... lets say "<div>" then i want that text to change to a different colour... say red.
My second question is: Obviously in web dev when you write the <div> tag you have other content inside it like: <div id=""/> so how can i make the entire string between the < and the > or the <div> </div> become the same colour.
I'm trying to format a string so that when it's put into a RichTextBox, the bold, italics, etc... will be interpreted correctly. I found an example that shows the following string[code]....
Why does the following code produce a single string in a richtextbox and the multiplestrings that it is supposed to with a regular textbox? I am concerned about running out of space sizewize so I am trying to get away from a textbox.
Dim updatedHours As New ArrayList For Each item As String In RichTextBox1.Text.Split(vbNewLine) Dim linepart() As String
I need to generate a lot of random 2 character strings for my application. it's a VB console application. basically what I have tried for random strings is this:
Private Function GenerateRandomString(ByVal intLenghtOfString As Integer) As String 'Create a new StrinBuilder that would hold the random string. Dim randomString As New StringBuilder
[Code]....
What is going on? I thought that I used to, a long time ago, be able to just do random.Next.
Why does the following code produce a single string in a richtextbox and the multiple strings that it is supposed to with a regular textbox? I am concerned about running out of space sizewize so I am trying to get away from a textbox.
Dim updatedHours As New ArrayList For Each item As String In RichTextBox1.Text.Split(vbNewLine) Dim linepart() As String Dim oldTimeIn As Date
I want the strings of RichTextBox1 and RichTextBox2 (strings are separated by newlines) printed to RichTextBox3 along with selected RadioButton's name and ticked CheckBox's name.[code]
I have situation where I have to retrieve different fields from Access Database and put into one RichTextBox but they have to be displayed as DIFFERENT font types/colors.
I am able to get the database field data into RichTextBox but not able to set font styles or font colors. They are displayed in default font style. Please help me with sample code by giving example, i.e., taking two to three different string types and sending them to RichTextBox with different font color and styles.
Say I have a List(Of Tag) with Tag being an object. One member of Tag, Tag.Description, is a string, and I want to make a comma-separated concatenation of the Description members. Is there an easier way to do this than to read the Description members into a List(Of String) and then use the Join function?
I'm converting a user generated list box to an array and then generating a user defined number of random strings and placing it in a textbox. The code I have works fine as it will generate the number of random strings the user wants, except sometimes a line is blank at the top of the list but is counted as a string.
I want to let the user input objects to a richtextbox 1 object on each line, and somehow use Random.Next to select pseudorandomly a few objects, the number 'few' inputted in a textbox.
txt1 = help and txt2 = me! txt3 = not here, when i enter the other box i want the okay to drop sign to come up, after drop txt1=me! and txt2 = help.if i drag to txt3 display the can't drop sign.Iv'e tried everything all i can do is replace one way.also,i want the can't drop and can drop simbols to show.so far
I am working on a UDP Client/Server, and currently i have them sending back and forth strings, which i convert to bytes, and then open the bytes to read. I want to now send an Object instead of those strings, which includes multiple unsigned integers and strings.
I have a list of strings. For each string in that list, I want to prepend another string. I wrote a method to do it, but I was wondering if there was something already in .NET I could use to do this. It seems like something that could be built in, but I was not able to find anything.
Here is the method I wrote:
Private Function PrependToAllInList(ByRef inputList As List(Of String), ByRef prependString As String) As List(Of String) Dim returnList As List(Of String) = New List(Of String) For Each inputString As String In inputList returnList.Add(String.Format("{0}{1}", prependString, inputString))
[code].....
It works, but I would rather use built in functions whenever possible.
I've read numerous posts and threads about random number generation, but I havent' run across this.If I generate a bunch of random numbers, the results are radically different if I create a new Random generator for each number than if I use on Random generator for all the numbers. The results are much more consistent and evenly distributed if I use the same Random generator.I would have thought the opposite, because creating a new Random generator each time should reduce the number of random repetitions, if a different time slice is used to create the random number.[code]......
The class Random is out right defective. It always produces the same random numbers in the same sequence. Things I have tried so far is every kind of seed you can think of as well as Randomize. The result is that I always get the same random numbers in exactly the same sequence.
