Dynamically Refresh / Update Form
Jun 6, 2011I am trying to update my form once the delete button is clicked. There are several fields like Name, Date, Date of Birth and so on. Once I delete record I want the form to automatically load with new / updated data. This form fetches data from MS Access using OLEDB. Once when I close the application and reopen then form will be updated with new values. But I want this to happen once the form loads after deleting.[code]

Trigger A Refresh On A Form When An Update Occurs?
Apr 23, 2009how to trigger a refresh on a form when an update occurs in my business logic.
This isn't an issue for 95% of my forms because they call the update from the form that needs to be updated. However, In some cases an inner form does and update that requires an outer form to reflect this. I've read about Handles, Delegates, AddressOf etc etc and I'm drowning in options.
In simple terms, I need three things to happen
1. Form2 (inner form) has updated info, so the user clicks Save
2. Save calls my Data Access Layer and updates the database
3. Form1 (outer form) has a DataGrid that needs to be notified so it can update via a Sub LoadGrid
It's stage 3 I can't do. How do I trigger a Sub in Form2 (LoadGrid) to do the refresh from an external class.
Reset Button To Reset Player
May 29, 2009Ok, so I am building my own program to control a video player I have through telnet, I have everything else working except one thing.I have a reset button to reset the player, when I press it, it sends the string "Reset" and the unit resets without a problem.But when I add a code to close the winsock connection upon reset, it doesn't send the string to the unit. I am sure what is happening is the winsock is getting closed at the exact same time it is trying to send the string and so it fails to send, how do I make it close winsock AFTER the string has been sent? if he don't click refresh or using timer how can the datagrid automatically refresh the data from database without using button or timer. i don't like using timer cause it eat resources a lot.

Jun 15, 2012I want to have a button on my form that will close the form itself and then reopen itself essentially refreshing the form. i have read several posts about this topic and most people say use the hide and show functions but i don't want to hide the form i want to close it. Therefore when you click a field on the LvwColProc it takes you to another form called FrmColProcessing, here you can make changes to certain fields which are also present on FrmPracDetails. What I want to do is when you make changes on FrmColProcesing and Click the Save Button (which calls the Save function)the changes appear instantly on FrmPracDetails. Please note, FrmColProcessing will always be open next to FrmPracDetails. I have tried to put this code in the Save function present in FrmColProcessing as shown below, but it doesnt Refresh FrmPracDetails form.

May 13, 2009I am trying to add the update button on my form. The application run's fine but when I change the GPRDSTATUS - to another value and click Update buton the following exception is given "NullReference Exception was unhandled". Highlighting this line of code :

Edit/Update Button For Data Grid
Mar 16, 2011I'm trying to create a Library System in VB 2010 which is connected to a 2007 MS Access Database manually. I was successful to create a "Search" button where it displays content from the database based on the user's entries on several text boxes.
The result is shown on a Data Grid which I set to allow Editing on it. My problem now is I can't find a way to create an "Edit" button. My idea is basically allow the user to search, let the result be shown on the data grid, edit the data grid, and click the Edit button to save the updated records back to the database.
My question is it possible to create such button? Here is the code that I use to connect to the data base for the Search button.

May 15, 2011I was using 2 forms, the first one has general data capture and the second one is a calendar form. On Form1 I have mulitple windows controls. A Textb ox and beside a Calendar button. When I click on a Calendar Command button, it should open calendar form and once the user selects the date, the date should be placed in the text box on the form1. Identical to this on Form1 I need multiple textboxes that needs date to be captured.I cannot use a global variable for this as I need to validate mulitple text boxes. To explain this, I have a Transaction Date and Date Received. I need to validate whether Transaction date is prior Date Received or not? I dont want to use several global variables b'coz I might need multiple validations as above. Please help me on this.

Mar 24, 2011I wrote a custom installer that installs my software as well as sql server express 2005 on a pc. Now the client needs it to install on 64 bit pc's as well. It worked well on 32-bit but I had hard coded the install path of sql server as:

this works on a 32 bit pc. But on a 64 bit I want it to detect the Program Files(x86) folder.How can I do this reliably?

Jun 15, 2012Environment = VB.NET 2005 & Pervasive SQL 9.5 ADO.NET In a simplified example, I have single database table (customers) with the columns "customer_code_PK" and "customer_name" This table is presented in VB.NET 2005 as a single form datagrid (bindingsource/dataset). In this example, the database table is populated with the following data
customer_code_PK customer_name
SHELLShell Oil
BPBritish Petrolium
MOBMobile
In very simplified terms, code does the following;
sub on form load
fill dataset with database records (select * from customers)

The datagridview loads the records correctly.Here is the sequence of operations that produces the bizzar behaviour.In the editable datagrid;
1.remove the row with PK = MOB -> save_button -> Database correctly updates
2.add a new row with PK = KFC -> save_button -> Database correctly updates
3.remove row with PK = SHELL -> save_button -> Database exception occurs
On this last command, the row SHELL is INSERTED!!, not removed.However, If I change ths save_button routine to this

It works correctly !Is it correct that you would need to "refresh" the sql update commands after every tableadapter.update?
