Jan 21, 2010lately I've been experiencing LinqToSql + Sql Server Express 2005, and it was a great journey (muddy) anyway .... I'm at the point that I want to make a Backup/Restore for the database backup for SSE is as easy as a simple copy paste of the mdf file, but the problem that I can't copy the file while the server is using it, server doesn't let the file go untill the app is closed or after about 4 - 6 minutes of idle time,

Restore Backup File Created On Server To Another One
Oct 12, 2009I am using SQL server express 2005 as an backend. I created a backup file programmatically. If I use same server , then it restore the data successfully. however if we try to restore on different server, then it fails. and throw following message:
"The Backup set Holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'DatabaseName' database. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally."
On both server, Sql server instance name and database name is same. How can I resolve this error?

Dec 15, 2011I have a search page in one form(Search.vb) and another form(Form1.vb) to display the details of selected data from the search form.
I already have back button in Form1.vb which returns to some other form say (Action.vb).
In case of searching data it returns to Form1 to modify the selected data, In this case if i press the back button in Form1.vb it should return to search.vb with the details that i entered for searching.
Is there any way to save and restore the form whenever needed with its details?

The update fails during the update and a rollback command is issued using a SQLTransaction object. However, now the rowstates of the rows that did not have errors have been changed to unchanged. So this record is no longer availible to be inserted into the database. Oct 26, 2011I made a simple TCP server (I've found the example on the web) in VB to receive data from about 40 TCP clients.The clients are not synchronized but sends data about every 18 minutes; the problem is sometimes several clients sends data at the same moment, so I can't receive data.I also made a second program that reads the data (server program writes data on a file, read from the second program) scheduled.
My question is this: I've seen on the web examples about Multithreaded Server Socket Program, so I suppose this could manage my 40 clients (but now the clients are syncronized and send data at the same time in client mode) or is better get data (I have a central client that asks data to all 40 devices in server mode)?
Second question: can I make a single program where I run both TCP client and TCP server at the same time?

Jul 6, 2010I want to know how you can export data from a disconnected database that could be access or ms sql to an sql server database.
Here is the scenario:
I have several software in a remote sites on either sql or ms access databases as back-ends...and I have another sql server database that i want to consolidate data from the remote sites.
One solution I have been thinking about is to use email to send incremental backups of the databases to the main database using a separate piece of software and have another one on the main server to pull that data into the database.
Basically am looking at setting up the remote databases as linked servers at the main database and then having incremental backups sent by email to the main database.
I have thought of replication but the internet link at the sites is terrible.
Is that a good implementation? If yes
How do i get to send the incremental backups and get them imported?(the code)

Aug 13, 2010I am trying to do something fairly simple.. allow my user to import thier data from Excel into SQL Server, where it can be used by the application.To do this, I'm using the fairly simple code that is common everywhere I look:

Now, on my development computer this code works perfectly. The data imports, and I can go on my merry way.
On the TEST computer, this code throws the error: "ODBC -- Connection to {SQL Server} servernamesqlservername failed." This seems very odd to me, because I'm using exactly the same SQL Server and database to interact with the application, and all the other screens in the application work perfectly. The test computer CAN connect to this SQL Server, but it keeps throwing this error whenever I try import data from Excel.I've tried everything I can think of - using the server's IP address instead of the server name, sending the SQL Server administrator data along with the request, taking out the Trusted_Connection=Yes... nothing works. What is going on here? How can this code work fine on my computer, and hiccup on another?
