Ignoring the philosophy behind doing so...I have successfully uploaded PDF documents to an Image type column in SQL (2005). With VB.Net (winforms NOT asp.net) how do I get the PDF document back out of the database?What I would like to have happen is that when the Image data for the PDF is retrieved, I can present the user with a file dialog box to save the document locally. I am currently trying to use MemoryStream to manipulate the Image data coming back off the DB, but I'm not sure what to do with is after this point:

I am having trouble retrieving data from a stored procedure that I have set up as a Data Adapter using VB.NET 2005. The Database is SQL Server 2000, and what I am trying to access is a simple Stored Procedure that will validate a users login access. [code] I have a dataset set up as AdjustmentsDataSetspValidateLogin. I am trying to figure out in code how I can address this using a table adapter or how I can capture from a login form I have created the UserID and pass this value to the stored proc to return the current record, if any of the user.I initially setup a Dataset and dragged the dataset onto a form. Then I deleted the data navigator and the toolbar that was created by default so that I could just pass values to the Stored Proc. I also have the table adapter setup to return a table "LoginData" with the two fields Approver & Admin when I pass a userID.But I am having difficulty addressing the table adapter in code and pulling back the data values for the UserID I'm passing to the DataSet.Does anyone have any ideas on how I can call this stored proc and get the data values returned? I have my requiremnt as follows. I have a database consisting of text, image columns. Now I would like to query the database and display the result on to a word document. I have that resultset in a dataset. Now I would like the result in paragraphs manner in word document.
In my desktop, I have folder containing some word document files. I want the filenames of the documents in that folder. So, I used: Dim strFiles() As String = IO.Directory.GetFiles("X:Documents and SettingsXXXDesktopvvvvv", "*.doc") All filenames are stored in that array. But it would also include the temp document that Word generates. I am somewhat confused on how to remove this from array. I only need full filenames of the actual documents, which excludes the temp document.
I am having some difficulty with an xPath expression. I am using an XML document to store queries / stored procedure names in an ASP application. I use a utility function to load the xmldocument (if it isn't previously loaded) and I am attempting to select the node set from the document that matches an Id element. [code] the node variable only returns the first element. I have verified the that the qry string that is used to SelectSingleNode IS the correct Id value (i.e. USER002) - however the node is getting loaded with the USER001 element. It is obviously the xPath expression that is messed up. What do I need to tweak on the xPath expression so that I can return the correct <Id> element and corresponding child <Sql> element.

Need to design a program that can encrypt and decrypt messages stored in simple text files using a private key stored in a separate file. Software should also be able to allow the users to enter simple messages that either displays the encrypted or decrypted message. The encryption method should use a simple substitution method. We are opening a Word document from our Visual Basic 2010 application using the Word object. When we run our application under Windows Server 2008 the document name is truncated in the main window title for the document. This is not the case when we run our application under Windows XP. I need to be able to create an xml document given that the format is specified in a given xsd document and the data is in a dataset. Is there an easy way to do this in Visual Studio or Access 2007 or will this require writing out the xml document one item at a time to match the xsd?
I have a function on my program that allows a user to load a listbox filled with words that are matched with words inside a databank. The databank is filled with 2 string arrays and file of .jpg Pictures. The Arrays attached to each word inside the listbox are approximately one page. Each page is two paragraphs of Text(string Array) and one Picture(20Kbytes).My problem is this. When the user selects the option print all, the listbox with approximately 10255 words is selected and begins to fill a Microsoft Word Document.Because the alotted amount of space needed for the MS Word Document is approximately 5 Gbytes,I need to open about 10 Documents and insert the String Array's and Pictures into each document one at a time.Is there anyway to check the filesize of the Open Document before saving the document.This way I could check the open document inside the algorithm for 512 Mbytes of memory and save the document before the size gets above 512 Mbytes.[code]
The application I support is creating an amalgamted Word document by copying couple of Word documents in one document right after each other. The problem is the format of the some of the fields of the document that gets appended is changed in amalgamated document while the amalgamated document is the copy of AppendDocument (imagine if we have one document to copy in the amalgamated document)
I have a stored procedure to update a table, but needs a couple of values from another table.
the first two selects get the value from the table and then are used in the update statement.
The select statments:

First, the values that are retrieved by the first two select statements are always the same. So they could be passed in by the code itself. I don't know that this will speed things up at all, just make the entire stored procedure better and easier to read.
Second, if the "Value Name" should change this store procedure will break (which is possible, but not often).
I am looking for any insight into the Best Practices for this situation.

how come when I retrieve my data from SQL my date field returns the date along with a time of 12:00:00 AM???? The Sql BD Type is Date and it is a date only in the SqlDB. I'm populating the date into a textbox.
