Say I wrote something in .NET 3.5 that does everything I want very nicely in Windows XP with the framework installed. What would I have to do to alter this program such that it can run exactly the same way on older versions of Windows with or without the framework installed? Is this even partially possible without changing languages or downgrading my Visual Studio?

Is there anyway of embedding reference .dlls into the respective application? This came in my mind because I made a small notepad application in vb.net < 1mb in size and to run it, it requires full .net framework.
View 1 RepliesI am writing my first application in VB 2008 Express with .NET Framework versions 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 installed. When completed, I assume the application will need to check whether it is running under .NET Framework version 3.5 or later. I have not found any properties that I could get which would give me this information about the environment in which the application is running. Is this something that the non-user code in which my application is wrapped by the IDE checks, or is it something that I have to check myself within the application ? If the latter, how would I do that ?

I have developed a small application in VB.NET 2008. It uses .net framework 3.5. But somehow it also runs in computers with .net framework 2 or 2.5. Is there a way to determine thru code what is the latest version of .net framework the pc is running. This way I can give a warning message box that the required framework is not installed.

I'm calling the following method from a button click event to export a datatable to excel. After the export is completed, the excel application object is quit, released and assigned to nothing. But in reality it's not getting released and stays active unless the entire application is closed. So every time the button is clicked for export, a new excel application object keeps on running. The problem doesn't occur if two of the lines from the method below are not used. But I can't omit them as they are really needed. Check the * marked lines.

I hv installed MS VS.NET 2003 Bootstrapper Plugin -> A plug-in for creating deployment projects in Microsoft� Visual Studio� .NET 2003 that contain the .NET Framework version 1.1 and/or Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.7. still it is giving the error The setup requires .NET Framework 1.1.4322. The master project compiles to a executable which provides a menuing system which dynamically loads the dll's and connects to entry points.
The projects contain normal classes, numbers of forms and also controls, which are either usercontrols or are inherited extensions of standard windows controls.There are a number of third party components (eg reporting and grid controls from Component One, Ribbon control from DevExpress etc).

Actually whenever i try to run some old specific software having .net 3.5 framework on my PC they show they needs .net framwork 1.1 . If I already know the PID, then I can retrieve the CreationDate (I assume which I can use to check for restarts? or is this the actual process creation/installation date) for each specific process, however if a restart occurs the PID will change and my script needs to know what the new PID is without me telling it!

Now when I comment these, the application is executed flawlessly, but when included program requires Framework 2.0 SP2 upgrade, I searched MSDN for this but looks like this is available from Framework 1.1
I dont want my users to upgrage to SP2 for such minor things but cant also remove this from my code, Is there an alternate to achieve similar ServicePointManager settings without a Framework Upgrade?
