Apr 7, 2012I am trying to run a query an Access db from VB. The general query which I want to run is
SELECT * FROM Patient WHERE Patient.PatientID = ?
or SELECT * FROM Patient WHERE Patient.PatientLname = ?
I tried using an input box which captured the user input and pass that variable to the query, but that failed. Then I read about writing a function and using that, however, I keep getting an error which says Function not defined, but when stepping through the code, it seems to work. Form Objects Disappearing In A Running Application
Apr 21, 2010I have a windows forms application built in VS2005 and migrated to VS2008 that I "inherited" that occasionally will not show some of the objects (i.e. a button or something) when a user runs it. This is sporadic and does not seem to have any notable pattern.Are there any specific types of things I should be looking for that might cause such behavior? I tried looking at available memory and hard disk space issues and that did not seem to have any bearing on the problem.

I can also pass and return parameters to the code in the script file.In VB6 using the VBScript Host control, I could expose instances of objects in my app to the code in the VBScript.How do I do this in VB.NET?I'd like to expose a form object (the main form for my Windows Forms Application) to my VB.NET script.I don't want to pass the form as a parameter via InvokeMember.[code]

What's happening is that if i set a break-point to the constructor of Foo and step, the constructor is hit and the parameters are loaded with the arguments. However, l has empty Foo objects (the members in every object are Nothing). What could be happening here?

Mar 24, 2011I am creating a mediaplayer / playlist creator tool that basically imports MP3 songs into playlists (grids). I'm looking to add search functionality where the user can search all open playlists (or a subset of the open playlists). A Playlist is basically a collection of AudioFiles, where an AudioFile is a class that holds the filename of the MP3 file and then exposes the tags (Title, Artist, Album, etc) in public properties.
The idea is that the user can search for a certain expression (for example "the"), and that he can then choose whether to search in the title, in the title and artist, in the title or artist, in the title, artist and/or album, etc. However, I'm having a hard time implementing this and also having it kind of dynamic.
At the moment I am simply gathering all the AudioFiles from the open playlists (or from the subset of playlists the user chooses) and then running a simple LINQ query to find those AudioFiles where the Title contains the search text. Then I display the resulting AudioFiles in a new playlist window:

In case the AND / OR distinguishing is too hard, I would be happy to start with just letting it default to 'OR', so that the user can check Title and Album for example. If he would then search for 'a' then all songs that contain 'a' in their title as well as all songs that contain 'a' in their album should be returned. I guess that makes it easier, but I still wouldn't know how to dynamically create the LINQ query.
Running A Query Using The Gridview Control?
Mar 30, 2010I need to filter the database based on selected user input at runtime. I have a Drop Down List, GridView, and button on my webpage. The drop down list is bound to the database, it holds a list of product catagories. The gridview is also linked to the database with a query written so that the displayed data is only that which falls under the selected catagory. I want the query to execute when the button is clicked but i dont know and cant find such a command.

Aug 31, 2009Im wanting to pull some data from our Remedy Server every so often. Right now we're having to do it manually; Data > Import External Data or New Database Query. The connection is called AR System ODBC Connection Source. We have to log into the server and then it pulls the info into the sheet. Im needing even if have to setup a conection myself first to just have this conection run every couple or two and update the excel sheet. We're using excel 03, Remedy 7.

Running Same Report Multiple Times With Same Query?
Sep 5, 2011I have a report that displays some sales info. I have a query that takes the data from an SQL Server database and I store it in a dataset. Up to there everything is ok. The problem is that I need to print the same report using Crystal Reports for each row in my query. Is there any way this can be done? I call a form with a ReportViewer tool to display the reports, wich are basic .rdlc reports.

I know that the Fill method does not make sense in case of an INSERT statement, but I am new to this technology and the above statement does the job and updates the table w/o problems. My question is this: If there was an error (say a duplicate key error) how would I know this in my application? Should I be putting the above code in a try/catch block?
Also, if there is a "proper" method for running INSERT statements using a DataAdapter/DataSet combination that does not use the Fill method, please indicate that as well.

Aug 11, 2011I have an application that performs database queries using "Imports System.Data.SqlClient". I want to display an animated GIF on the taskbar which spins while the query is running. However, during a query the application simply hangs and does not update the GUI until the query has finished, at which point the spinning icon is set to invisible anyway. Is there any way to force the GUI to update while the query runs?
