I'm attempting to create a VB.Net media player, either using the Media Player COM component or by doing grunt work by myself. What's been bothering me is Codec's. Will both players automatically use an installed codec when trying to play an ".mkv" (just for example). Or will I need to interface the application with the codec.

I have sorted out the navigating to a form using the [Next] button but am struggling with the previous button.

In VB.net 3.5 SP1 I have a Windows Form with three DataGridView controls. One DGV takes up the whole bottom half of the form. The other two share the top half and are side-by-side.
I'd like to have each DataGridView scale appropriately. More specifically I'd like to have column widths and row heights adjust to the size of the form. Then I'd like the cell font to auto-fill based on a change in the cell size.
I've used the Dock property for the controls to scale to the size of the form. How can I get the rows and fonts to utilize the increased form size?
On the Y-Axis of a bar graph, how can I display descriptions as the scales instead of numbers? I don't see anywhere that I can do that.

I bought a new printer, and the printable area is smaller than the old one, and there are some cuts in the report.I didn't change the paper size or whatever, just the printer.

View 2 RepliesIn my application, the user can create a word document from a word template with dynamically added text and data to it. This happens on a backgroundworker so that the application doesn't hang during the process. This all works fine and the word document opens correctly when finished. Now if the user leaves the application to do something else, in most cases when they come back to it, it has frozen. It's still responding/running in task manager but the interface is frozen. In debug mode, it never freezes and so I can't catch the exact moment when the freeze occurs. My backgroundworker is disposed of when complete and I close everything related to the word object.

XP it doesn't look very nice. I found some similar threads on the internet but no answers. Does anyone know how to display maximized windows in MDI properly? [Code] On Vista the child-form switch/appear really smoothly. On XP you can see as they are being maximized.

When the user clicks on a Menu Item i want the container to show some controls, now when the user clicks another Menu Item, the container needs to change and show other controls, and so on with every menu Item the user clicks, one at a time.
I thought of panels showing and hiding for every menu Item clicking, but that would use a lot of memory as ALL the controls would be created, some of them just not showing. I also though of an MDI application, but i dont want multiple forms (with the menu bar) opening inside one form. I just want the actual container of one form to change.
I am creating an application with mlutiple forms. When you click on a button in the main menu, the main menu will close and the new window will be diplayed. When you hit back on the new window, the main menu will be displayed.I know how to show new forms by using Form1.Show(). When I try to return to the main menu by hitting a back button I created, the main menu does not show up, but the program continues running. I have a legacy application that has an interactive graphical user interface, but also periodically checks for files in a directory and reacts to the files. I want to launch the application from a VB program, but not see the GUI (i.e., just let the file interface do it's thing). I really don't want to see the application running on the desktop at all (e.g., no windows, nothing on taskbar), the only evidence would be if I checked task manager I'd see it running.
Obviously this app would be ideally a service, but that's not where we are and I can't change it so I'm trying to simply not see the GUI.
I've seen the ProcessStartInfo.CreateNoWindow and WindowStyle = hidden flags but they don't hide the GUI of the legacy app.
again launch the legacy app (actually an unmanaged C++/MFC app) from a VB managed admin app.
I am on a project helping to analyze the load a VB.Net WinForms application can take. This app has been in production for several years and has many many products on it. We plan to add more products but see the client footprint rapidly increasing. This is contributing the degradation of performance on the system overall.There is duscussion that moving the UI intensive portions of the app to ASP.Net it will reduce the client footprint and solve many of our issues.My question which of the following will scale better in terms of performance and load? I need to draw a world map. I got necessary coordinates.I can draw it on a picturebox. To zoom in/out, I multiply the coordinates by a scale and draw them on the picturebox. At the same time I change the size of the picturebox according to scale.Now my problem is, it seems that the picturebox has limitations in size. I can't make it bigger than 32767.
View 10 Repliesmy final year project title is monitoring weight changes in digital scale / indicator.i bought one digital scale online from A&D in order to test out my system.however unlikely other device (GSM MODEM, RFID...) there are no drivers or libraries (DLL) from this device.. with only the digital scale and (rs232 9-pins to usb convertor i bought) i was like lost wondering how to get communicate with the device.i have been search around in the internet for similar post.. but there are most likely dealing with the data receiving already. is there any journals or manuals for references? i willing to study over this and not simply ask for full codings.

Every time I weigh an object, automatically the result/ weight will display in the the texbox control in Visual Basic Application.I use to receive data via a timer for continuous looping sequence output to a textbox. Things do goes bad, as it flicking all the way. I using a indicator from AD series which read data from load cell of a truck weight bridge. It there's any way to stop this flicking without effecting the continuous loop?

The control has a serial cable to communicate with.I am trying to figure out what command to send to it to get the weight back.I have connected to it with a serial monitor and i dont seem to be getting any information back so thought maybe I had to send something to it.Right now we have a 3rd party dos program that is communicating with it that i dont have the source to.

I want to know if there is a way I can resize panels manually while an application is running. Basically I have one master panel you click a button add more panels to it. I want the child panels to be movable and resizable in the parent panel.
