The problem is when I search through a textbox and nothing matches the search query, I accidentally click the column header which is the lastname then the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." pops up.
The highlighted part of my code is the text closed in quotation marks. "If dgvStud.CurrentCell.Selected = Nothing Then" btnEdit.Enabled = False btnDelete.Enabled = False Exit Sub Else btnEdit.Enabled = True btnDelete.Enabled = True End If
This code is under my dgv cell click event. Here is a screenshot for the column header where I found the error. [URL]
My question is how can I create an event that would catch an enter key when I am editing it. Like I would type a note and hit enter key when I finish. Because columns of the datagrid does not have events like other controls or datagrid itself. What I need is something like this:
Private Sub ColumnNote_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles ColumnNote.KeyPress End Sub
tell way to get: KEYPRESS event in the cells of DataGrid ?If user enters numeric value in Quantity, it would calculate & give result in Rate. How can I fire KEYPRESS event in cell
I have datagrid, a textbox and a button .. the user puts a value in the textbox, and when he presses the button it should search through the datagrid for that value, if found, 1 of 2 things may happen:Or the datagrid only shows that value Or the value the user put in the textbox show indexed, like, with the blue thing over?
I am trying to perform a search and this is as far as I got. I am trying to search through a datagrid for a match either by last name or ID. I know the ID search is almost working but not sure how to make it look for whats in the text box... how to match the value in the search text to the datagrid.
Private Sub SearchButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles SearchButton.Click Dim ind As String = 0 ' Dim Result As String Dim SearchArgument As String
I'm writing a program for my friend as a gift. He's a movie lover, and has this Excel spreadsheet with all the movies he's watched in it. I converted the spreadsheet to an Access database, then used that database in my program. I've been going by the example in my textbook (Programming with Microsoft Visual Basic by Diane Zak), and everything been working until I put in a "Find Movie Title" button. I want to be able to search the column "Movie Title" for a title input by the user (whether it's the whole title or just a few characters)Here's the code:
Private Sub btnFindTitle_Click(ByVal sender As Object,[code].....
i need bit of support in my vb coding. i've publish data onto a datagrid(in vb express 2010). i just want to highlight entire row once the search data is found(in lime color) and color should be remain in that particular row when searching next records. so that user would easily know which records are searched and which are not by looking @ the color.
i am working on an assignment to search a value in datagridview column if value matched with input textbox then datagrid cursor should move to the cell having that searched vallue and if column has more than one searched values then cursor should move to next cell having that particular searched value and so on .e.g
----------
[code]....
suppose that if we search for value AROUT which is in cell nomber 3,5 and 7 when user hit the serch button first time then data grid cursor should move to the 3rd cell and when user again click search button then datagrid cursor should move to the 5th cell and when user click search button third time then datagrid cursor should move to the 7th cell i have tried many combination with FOR loop and IF condition but with following code i am able to search the string only once obviously if condition does not allow me to search a value more than once .the code is
for i as integer=1 to 90 If DataGridView1.CurrentCell.Value<>textbox1.text Then DataGridView1.CurrentCell = DataGridView1.Item(0, i + 1) End If Next
I have put an Input box + Button in my main form to search items inside my DataGridView in Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, i just dont know what codes to put in my button to enable searching items inside my DataGrid.
I've tried a few different methods I could find in order to connect my VB .NET program to a book store's database. While I've been able to connect to it and display the contents of its tables in a DataGrid, I need to be able to search the tables and display specific records, depending on the contents of appropriate the adjacent text boxes.[code]This is a code I've used for a very similar process, just really aims to search a different field in the table. If this is easier to adapt into a code that allows searching and producing specific records in a database, please use this one.
I am trying to do implement an autocomplete textbox in my application and I have a question about keypress event inside an autocomplete textbox. I have 2 textbox namely textbox1 and textbox2. Suppose to be, when the user pressed the RETURN / ENTER key, it will focus on textbox2. how come that on this event is not triggering.
Code: Private Sub frmCheck_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'set autocomplete mode in textbox1 TextBox1.AutoCompleteMode = AutoCompleteMode.SuggestAppend TextBox1.AutoCompleteSource = AutoCompleteSource.CustomSource [Code] .....
Also, I would like to ask if how to validate the input if the value from the textbox matches from the autocomplete values. How can I compare the values of the textbox and the autocomplete source?
anyone know how to invoke the KeyPress event ? This code shows what I would like to do, but it simply calls the eventhandler and does not insert the text into the text box, so is not what I want/need.
I have a form thats an invoice generator. You type numbers into the text box and it displays totals in the listbox at the bottom. I was trying to make it so that as you typed into the textbox it would update the listbox.
Private Sub txtWBQuantity_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles txtWBQuantity.KeyPress 'This section makes it so that you can not type a letter into the txtWBQuantity textbox
[Code]....
It works kind of, after I hit the next key it calculates the total of the first number I typed then writes the next number, how can I make it calculate the total after I hit the key?
I know you can validate textbox text by using the keypress events. But the form i'm working on has multiple groupboxes with multiple textboxes. So rather than having a sub routine to validate every groupbox, i was wanting to have just the one keypress event that handles the textbox entries, and depending on the textbox calls a specific validation routine.[code]
I have to create a textbox and a label component. The textbox object will have to behave under the following conditions: 1. It will only accept letters and the ENTER key as input. 2. As an extension of condition #1, a message will appear whenever an invalid key is pressed
i know this has to be simple but i can find anything anywhere tonight on how to check if while a textbox has focus if the ctrl+v or ctrl+c was pressed i simply need to use it like such:[code]
Private Sub prices_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles wholeprice_input_new_item.KeyPress, dozenprice_input_new_item.KeyPress, detailprice_input_new_item.KeyPress, costprice_input_new_item.KeyPress
[code]....
I want to validate all the characters. How I can make the event keypress validate all characters in a text box?
I have a TextBox which Is allowed only to read certain characters. I use KeyPress event to handle this event. I understand that The KeyPress event does not handle the pressing of the DELETE key on the keyboard. I do not want the user to be able to delete characters in the txtbox by using the DELETE key, I want the user only to be able to use the backspace key. I am writing this code in Visual Basic 2005. The following code appears to work in handling the DELETE key, but I am concerned that I might get bitten by the fact that I am using KeyDown and KeyPress on the same control (txtSource).
private sub txtSource_KeyDown(byval sender as object, byval e as KeyEventArgs) handles txtSource.KeyDown IF e.KeyData = System.Windows.Forms.Keys.Delete then e.handled=true end if end sub
move the focus to the next TextBox (don't worry about the Case 38, 58 etc too much I).
My Code: Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load '(Unrelated code here) AddHandler Form1.KeyDown, AddressOf EnterkeyHandler 'Would like to understand this better
I have the below code on the KeyPress event of a textbox howver a need has now come in meaning I have to do myTextbox.Text = "A input string"
Private Sub ChequeAmountKeyPress(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles txtChequeAmount.KeyPress Dim tb As TextBox = sender If (e.KeyChar = "." AndAlso tb.Text.Length = 0) Then e.Handled = True
[Code]...
This input string could contain a format that I do not want and whilst the keypress event caters for the need when the user is typing I need to handle it in the case of a text assignment.I thought firing the keypress event after I assigned the text property but I dont think that will offer what I want.
I have two issues. The first is that I want to make a textbox scrolling similar to how credits scroll. I don't want it to move on the form, just to scrolling the text down a line/pixel. I thought I could do it with the "Lines" element, but I'm not exactly sure how to execute it.
The other problem is with my flash screen. Right now I have it set so when a button is click, it goes onto the main form. I don't want to use the button but rather have it so if Enter is pressed at any time, it'll go to the main form. All the solutions I've tried to use involve the "e.Keycode" code, but for some reason its unavailable.
I have several multi-line textboxes that I want to lose focus (i.e. when the user presses the right arrow key) but the control wil not relinquish the focus.Simply put, I first verify if the selection start is at the end of the text, if it is, and the user presses the arrow key, it should move to the next textbox. some debug.print code placed in strategic locations indicates that the target textbox gets focus and immediately loses it and the source textbox gains focus once again. Essentially not allowing the textbox to lose focus.
Select Case Case Keys.Right tbRight.Focus()
[code]....
After changing the source textbox multi-line property to false, it behaves as expected. Is this a "feature" .. surely I don't have to resort to "SendKeys"
I have a simple question regarding the KeyPress event. I'm trying to make it to where my TextBox on my form can only accept numbers 0-9, backspace and '.' /without quotes. I've successfully got it to accept numbers 0-9, accept backspace, I'm just wondering - what line do I add so that it can accept periods as well?
Here's my
Private Sub TextBox_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e _ As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles _ TextBox.KeyPress
I had a datagridview which contains all the last name of a certain database. The data was displaying properly. I want to accomplished two tasks, first I want it that upon loading on the datagrid, data are sorted alphabetically already even without pressing the column header. Second I want to search the datagrid using a text box. I want like an autocomplete manner, if I type a single letter, say "B", the datagridcolumn will automatically point to the the name say "Bal" and so on...
I have a text box called TxtSearch on my form. The value entered should always be numeric before the search can be done if its any other data type the following Message box is give - Only a numeric value is allowed in this field", MsgBoxStyle.Information, "GCPM.. (Code shown below)
Private Sub TxtSearch_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles TxtSearch.KeyPress If Char.IsDigit(e.KeyChar) = False And Char.IsControl(e.KeyChar) = False Then[code].....
Now, when you copy and paste a String value on the textbox - TxtSearch the KeyPress doesn't work. The TxtSearch doesn't prompt the message and when you click the Search Button the application crashes - dsiplaying an error converting data type varchar to numeric.. What I want to do is if someone uses the copy and paste tool to enter the value in the textbox- TXTSearch and there is a datatype not numeric the message prompt is called ..
i am working in a project and what i want to do is to have a search drop down list and text box. Lets say i have a gridview with all my results from database. In gridview i can see Name, Surname, country, phone number. From the drop down list i want to select the column in which i want to make my search. For example, from 3 choices(name, surname or country) i will select country. Then i have to type a country name in text box and the search engine will make the search for the country column. For example if i will type "U.K" in text box as a result i want all the people(name, surname, country) WHERE COUNTRY = U.K.
I know the sort of a thread is already here, but I have a different question. I have ListBox1 and TextBox1 and the Items of ListBox1 are:California
Chicago Washington and as I start typing the text into the TextBox1 (TextBox1_TextChanged), then it will select the first Item in ListBox1,that is closest to the text in TextBox1:
For example:
If I type "A" to the TextBox1, it will select California (California) If I type "C" to the TextBox1, it will select again California (California) If I type "CH" to the TextBox1, it will select the Chicago (Chicago) AND!!! If I type "SH" to the TextBox1, it will select the Washington (Washington)
so it won't only search the first letters, but it will even search the letters in the middle of the text, too.
