Selecting Child Object From ComboBoxColumn In DataGridView?

Sep 22, 2010

With the two lists (t1s and t2s), I want to display t1s in a DataGridView, and in one column show the T2 property as a comboBox column, which dropdown will show the t2s list such that a new list instance can be selected. T2 has a Name property that should be used for displaying it in the comboBoxColumn.

I'm able to display the dropdown, but remaining a few problems:

1. How to display the correct comboBox "selection" on "load"?

2. How to change the T2 child object instance when combobox selection is made?

3. This is a really basic problem, which suddenly happened and I just couldn't understand what I have changed; The code marked BLUE now just shows empty cells.. While the AutoGenerated columns do show values.. Shouldn't those "manual" columns work?

DataGridView ComboBoxColumn List?

Jul 12, 2009

I am populating a DataGridView from a DataTable with a DataAdapter (VB 2008 Express, SQL 2008 Express). The dgv is for editing (with SqlCommandBuilder) a SQL table. I have added a ComboBoxColumn ("Type"), with a list, and removed the column from dgv ("Reason") who's index it replaces. What I can't figure out is the binding(?) to have the selected text displayed the same value as that from SQL table that is being edited. The ComboBox displays an index of -1, I need the selected text to be the data from row and field which is to be edited. The list is constant. Code so far is below:

Public Sub LoadDgvComps()
Dim myDA As SqlDataAdapter
Dim dsComps As DataSet[code]......

Datagridview With Manually Added Comboboxcolumn?

Jan 14, 2011

i am using a Datagridview on my form. It get's it's datasource from a dataset: grd.datasource=set_temp After that I add ComboboxColumns manually. At the end I loop columns and set values into that cells from the comboboxcolumns. Works perfect so far. Now I click on a header and the sorting is changed, and then the cells from the comboboxcolumns all lose their values, they are all empty.

Why and what do I do to avoid that? Or must i refill those manual Values after sorting?

.net - Binding A Collection Of Objects To A ComboboxColumn In A DataGridView?

Jan 24, 2012

I have a GUI which allows the user to select a report to view/edit. When the user selects a report, it shows the Items in the report. The Item has many properties - most of which are binding properly. One of the properties is Owner, and this is bound to a ComboBoxColumn.

Report

Items

Owner

I have done something very similar to this a few times and had no problems when I set the DataPropertyName, DataSource, ValueMember, and DisplayMember. The only difference is that this time instead of the Item type having an OwnderID it actually has an instance of the Owner object.giving the items bound in the list a self-referencing property that allows them to return themselves for the purposes of setting the ValueMember.However, When I bind it this way:

OwnerColumn.DataPropertyName = "Owner"
OwnerColumn.DataSource = ownersBindingSource1
OwnerColumn.ValueMember = "Self"
OwnerColumn.DisplayMember = "OwnerName"

I get a lot of errors like: Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'Owner'.

and:

The following exception occurred in the DataGridView:

System.ArgumentException: DataGridViewComboBoxCell value is not valid.To replace this default dialog please handle the DataError event.I was able to get around some of these errors by binding it like this:

OwnerColumn.DataPropertyName = "Owner"
OwnerColumn.DataSource = ownersBindingSource1

and also by making the ToString function on the Owner display the OwnerName property. This seems pretty hacky though - and I think I'm misunderstanding something fundamental as it still does not function properly.

Comboboxcolumn In DataGridView With An Event That Autosizes Cell Width

Nov 25, 2009

I have a comboboxcolumn in a DataGridView. I have loaded int with string data that appears in the dropdown box. I have added an event to it for an SelectedIndexChanged. What I am trying to do is autosize the width of the cell in the column based on the string chosen in the drop-down box within this SelectedIndexChanged event. This seems to work but it does not work off the initial selection change. When I select the desired string in the dropdown box the width of the cell does not autosize. I am not sure why.

I was trying to get around this by wrapping an IF stmt around the autosize logic by saying if cell value = "" then cell.width = Max Width of all loaded strings/ However, I can't figure out how to access the string array loaded into the dropdown list

For the last two weeks I have been trying to have a datagridview control on a form that will have datasource from a dataset with two tables that are related. I want child the column to be a ComboBoxColumn where userts can select options and update the other data(from the other table).

I have two tables in an sql server 2005 database named computers:-

Load The Data From Database Into A Datagridview With One Of The Columns Being A Comboboxcolumn?

Jul 27, 2010

easy way to simply load the data from database into a datagridview with one of the columns being a comboboxcolumn. Apparently there is no selectedvalue, selectedindex or value as in a combobox to return the combobox value. What I need is to verify if the database value is 'true' and if it is then I need to set the comboboxcolumn with a specific value.

Ex:

if ds.tables(0).rows(0)("flag") = "true" then
datagridcolumn.selectedvalue = 1
else
datagridcolumn.selectedvalue = 0
end if

Stopwatch - Selecting The Most Recently Dynamically Created Object With .NET?

Feb 3, 2012

Below is some code that I'm using to create objects with Visual Basic:

For indexCounter As Integer = 1 To TotalParticipants Step 1
participantClock = New Label
participantClock.Size = New Size(100, 20)
participantClock.Name = "participantClock" & indexCounter

[code]....

I'm creating a label, a button, Timer, and Stopwatch. (Though I have sinking feeling I don't need BOTH a timer and stopwatch since I'm counting time.)What I would like to do, is create the label and set that label's text to be the value from the stopwatch. The button that will be created will stop THAT stopwatch.

The problem that I'm having is that I cannot call the stopwatch by name since it wasn't created yet and VB throws a hissy fit at me for it. (After all it wasn't really declared.)So the question becomes, how do you call the most recently dynamically created control and assign events using that control. If it's not possible to do, I do not mind dumping the form and starting over creating 30 stopwatches instead (but I'd like to avoid that, if possible).

DataGridView - Selecting Row After Sorting

Sep 29, 2011

I have a datagridview that is bound to a dataview. I use a textbox to sort the list of data in the datagridview. Once the list is sorted I want to click on a row to populate the textboxes in order to update the data. Problem is once I sort the data I click on say row 3 and it pulls up the orginal data before the data was sorted in the datagrid view. For instance:

Before Sort:
1. betsy
2. james
3. john

After sort:
1. john
2. james
3. betsy

If I double click row 1 it will pull betsy info into my textboxes instead of john. I currently refresh my datagridview after every letter is entered into my textbox. I also reload my dataview and rebind the dataview with the datagridview.

DataGridView And Checkboxes Re-selecting Automatically

May 24, 2010

I have a strange problem with a DataGridView I'm using which is bound to a table in VB.net

I've added a checkbox column to allow a user to tick a bunch of rows that I can then loop through and save off to a different table. All the checkboxes are enabled by default. So it's really a case of unchecking the rows which aren't required.

However, the DataGridView re-enables any checkbox that I click after I click on a checkbox in another row. So in effect, only one row can be unchecked at a time.

EDIT: I forgot to mention this is a Windows form, not an ASP.net application.

VS 2010 Datagridview Column Selecting?

Is there a way to make a column unselectable? I can make the column read-only but it would be easier if it was unselectable so the user won't be confused trying to enter data into a read only cell. So if I clicked on a cell in that column or moved into that cell in that column it would jump to the next column, or not focus on the cell at all.

Display A List (Of Object) Which Has Single Objects And Child List (Of Object)?

Sep 6, 2011

Limited to using v2.0 of .Net framework (we use VB.net) due to environmental constraints on our servers.I've got an ASP.net webpage which pulls data from a webservice that performs checks on user accounts in active directory. Operators can check multiple accounts at one time using the web interface. The webservice returns a list(of AccountCheck) objects which themselves contain single properties like username, email address, and List(of AccountError) objects which contain multiple properties.[code]What I want to do is using some kind of repeater, create multiple panels or divs which contain labels showing the username, email etc, and a gridview which has the accounterror list bound to it to show all the errors. The users could be checking 2, 5, 7 accounts at once, and is dynamic.

Selecting Data In One DataGridView Based On Selection In Another?

One of these is bound to a DataSet, the other isn't visible - at least not until the user selects a uniqueidentifier cell in the 1st grid.When the user makes this selection, the 2nd grid will become visible and display the row from another with the same id as the one selected in the 1st grid.So, basically, I want to dynamically display data in one grid based on user selection in another grid.My code looks like this so far...

Private Sub RulesGrid_CellClick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles RulesGrid.CellClick
