Send Text To Console App?
Oct 10, 2009
I am trying to send text to a console app, it is not my console app, so I dint know or have any source code of it. What I want to do is hook into the console app and send text to it, in other words I want to programicly type commands into the app, but I don't want to simulate key presses. How can I do this in VB.NET?

I am trying to send/print/write all possible ASCII codes (0-255) to another console-window application. From my application I would enter the name of the "receiving" application and the comma seperated hex values that should be sent/print/written to it. I have used AppActivate to select the "receiving" application and then have used sendInput and send.sendkeys to attempt to send the desired ASCII value. However, these appear to have limitations on values greater than 127. I need to be able to send all 255 values.

I was thinking of adding a simple bandwidth monitor to a console application and I was wondering if it would be possible to keep a line in the console window visible at all times. I could set something up manually to pass new console output into a method that would get the contents of the console, clear the console, add the bandwidth data on the first row, then rewrite each line of previous information back to the console, etc.. but that seems like a really hacky way to go about it, and I'd be limited to the amount of rows visible at once in the console window (no scrolling).

I created a Console Application, with a Sub Main(Byval str As String), and when I run the debugger I get the following error:Error1No accessible 'Main' method with an appropriate signature was found in ...
Also I'd like the solution to my problem to apply not only to the debugger, but also to the .exe file that will eventually be created. Also, I found the following code on the internet, but I don't understand how to send the parameter in still.
Public Sub Main()
MsgBox Command$,vbOk, "Command Line params"
End Sub
Do I have to open cmd.exe, type: programname.exe -parameter 'Or something of that sort?

I have written little console application that sends emails. It behaves in the following manner:when I run this application in debug mode and go through code step by step it sends emails;when I run this application in debug mode and do not go through code step by step, last email does not get sent;when I build and move application to server and create a task for it, last email does not get sent;when I execute application from Windows explorer (double click on .exe file), last email does not get sent;when I execute application from command prompt it sends all emails; What is interesting is that when I putthread.sleep(200) all emails are sent! Note that I am using this code in my ASP applications and all mails are sent always. If mail has attachment, it is always sent, even if it is last in queue (but this is another application that works correctly).
Code that I use (class for mailing):
Public Class Mailer

I'm making program that will copy one file and over-write another to purge data.I have a windows form interface where the files can be selected and want a console application to run this process so it can be put into the PC's startup folder to run on each startup.
The problem is I need to send the file location data to the console app when I choose a save button on the form. Both are part of the same project and referenced but I can't seem to reference any variable from the win form to console app. Also will I see the Console app as a seperate icon in the program files so I can put it on the PC startup?

I am trying to use the send keys function to send text to another program.I ahve gotten it al working well, except for using () as I know sendkeys doesnt like these.I have tried using the Replace function in several places in my code to replace the ( with {(} and {+0} etc, with various other options tried. But when I run the program, it seems to skip this out completly and leaves them in the string as (, and therefore it errors and wont run. When I step through it, it goes through the function but doesnt alter the strng as it should. This is the code to send the string and my attempt at making it replace the () in the module
Module TextReplacement
Private Declare Function GetAsyncKeyState Lib "user32.dll" (ByVal vKey As Int32) As Short
Dim counter As Integer
Dim sData() As String
[code]....
The error I get when i try send "Test :)" is: ArgumentExcveption was unhandled "SendKeys string 'Test :)' is not valid"

I have an application that telnets into a server and we ping a bunch of IPs. What I need to do is it will automatically ping it like "ping iphere" the output looks like "64 bytes from machine&hostnamehere (iphere): icmp_seq=0 ttl=121 time=60 ms. What I need to know is how I can read those lines then if it "iphere" matches the pinged ip it will update my txt file. The only thing I need is reading the lines to see if it pings. One thing is if it doesnt ping it doesn't say anything its just empty space.

I was wondering it's it possible to read all the text being displayed from a console/terminal/cmd application (What ever you want to call it).
I would then want to echo that text in a text box.

I need to build an forms app that 'posts' or 'sends' text commands to an external console process, called Minecraft Server It is a java-based process, filename 'minecraft_server.jar'. Run by my computer via 'java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui'. The Process ID I assume would change each time it's run. This process can be downloaded here: [URL]
I am guessing that I need to:
1) find the Process ID for it, based on its process details, such as Command Line
2) figure out a way to 'post' these commands, commands such as "stop" into the console window
I cannot have this process launched by my VB project.

I'm making a console app that uses your name and then asks for a password and displays the text. So the start is like this
18:36:01 [Info] Program is started.
18:36:01 [Info] Please enter your name.
NAME GOES HERE AND THEN ENTER TO PROCEED
18:36:04 [Info] Hello Xoslize, Please enter the password.
Password Goes Here and then Enter to Proceed
Some Text Goes Here
How do I do that? I mean the enter to type text, etc. Btw, how about using color on every word?

I am currently working on an application, where I am using a console application, that will set up the application prior to the main form is run. This is no problem I've got that all working perfectly, the only problem I have is that the console is showing while the application is running, I was wondering whether anyone knows any way in which I would be able to hide the console before it gets shown to the user.

How do I get the console from closing immediatley upon opening in a Console Application program? I have all of the code written but when I run the program it pops up the console window and then immediatley exits so I am unable to read what is in the window to see if my program is operating correctly. This is the first time I've ever used a console window so I don't know where in the code I would need to put "whatever it is" I might need to put to keep the window open until closed by the user.

It sounds confusing but it's not really. What I need is basically a way to emulate the console style text, without using a console. What I'm really doing is trying to do a matrix effect on my form background, by drawing symbols and moving them, alternating their colors (see this video for what I mean).
Is there a way to do this effectively with a timer and a draw event, with the timer calling the draw event and changing the intervals?
