But when I install it on another computer where only the framework is present, I still can install it with installutil BUT I can't start it. The issue is in a windows based client-server application. In the GUI, the system date value is converted to string and is stored in a text box, which is displayed while the dialog gets loaded. How to change the format of date so that when the form loads the date is displayed in en-US culture irrespective of the regional setting of the system(for eg: regional setting of the system is "fr-FR").
I'm wondering, Windows is installed with a current language... Isn't it possible to get those strings from a file? On a XML/INI/Database-base? Something like:
Dim LANG As My.Computer.Culture.Language = My.Computer.Culture.Language.CurrentLanguage Dim Cancel As String = LANG.Cancel Debug.Print(Cancel) 'Output: Annuleren
i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a generic class and is not marked as [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit interface as the default interface to COM using the ComDefaultInterface attribute.
It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.
I'd like to know which would be the best way to deploy updates of a software developed in vb.NET, using Windows Installer. What do i have to change? Upgrade code? or Product code?
I am getting the following error when i try to publish my application with the checkbox for ClickOnce Security On. Could not find file 'Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=*, PublicKeyToken=6595b64144ccf1df, ProcessorArchitecture=*, _ Type=win32'. [projectname ]
I have multi language application where i am using "en-US" and "ar-KW" languages.I also have WinForm where I am using the DateTimePicker control. When the user logs in, if his default language is "en-US" it saves the record but when he has default language "ar-KW" then this date format is not saving in database, and produces an error. Why?
The datatype of the Employee DateOfBirth field is smallDateTime in SQL Server.I am using the following code in VB to save the record. There is a normal INSERT stored procedure in the backend.
I am trying to communicate with a Windows service on a remote machine on the network but i keep getting an exception saying the following: "System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot open Service Control Manager on computer 'machine001'. Is it possible to have a dotnet windows service which monitor other services and upon stop of any service, the monitoring service would be able to start the stopped service.
In the past I had the indexing service installed on a Windows Server 2003 and used it to index files for my website. I did this by executing an OleDbCommand with a query and a connection string. How do I accomplish the same thing with the new "Windows Search Service" (Windows Server 2008) by using VB.NET? Does this work the same way so that I only need to change the Provider name which has been "MSIDXS.1" up to now? Case true, what is the new Provider name?
We have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?
I have the requirement to create an application that has multiple front ends developed using Windows Forms, WPF, ASP and Compact Framework Mobile Forms.I would like to be able to create a series of obejct representing the business logic and have this logic accessible from the various front ends available. My first thought was to use remoting as I'd like to be able to pass the business objects back and forth between client and server but the compact framework doesn't support remoting and also transferring a full framework business object to a compact framework business object doesn't seem possible. My next thought was to use web services but again the passing of business objects seems to be very hard to accomplish. Without doing this I would have to create individual web methods for each business operation.
Finally my next option is to use sockets and write the whole client/server logic within some classes and expose them to the UI/Business layer. My only problem with this is it is not scaleable should the number of clients increase dramatically whereas using remoting or web services I can host the solution via ASP.Net.Does anybody have an ideas on the best way forward for this or even have any input on how they would write an application that required a windows form, wpf, asp website and mobile device GUI all of which want to use the same business logic?
I am using a windows service and tried to copy some file as below,System.IO.File.Copy("Z:abc.txt", "C:helloworld.txt")Note: Z: is a map drive from another host in 1 LAN (same LAN)I got error, "Could not find a part of the path 'Z:abc.txt'."But when I tried it at a simple application using windows application, it works with the same code as above.
Tried to write my first Windoes Service yesterday with a certain degree of success but I couldnt install it.Upon running teh Install programme in the command line I was presented with a 'Set Service Login' window with a User ID, Password and Confirm Password text box.I attempted to use my windows login credentials but the install failed and was rolled back.Im using a computer on a company network with Win2k?
I've created a windows service and started a deployment project for it. I have the project installer class in the service project and I've added the "Standard output etc.." from the service project as custom actions for the Deployment Project. When I attempt to install it, I get the error "Specified service already exists", which shouldn't happen (even though the service does exist) because the installer should be removing the old service and installing the new one.
I've checked that the versions are different, and that the Product Code is also different, also RemovePreviousVersions is set to true. Can anyone tell me why it isn't uninstalling my old service when I update then install again? .S: MODS: DO NOT MARK MY POST AS ANSWERED, IT IS RUDE, YOU HAVE NO IDEA IF YOU'VE ANSWERED MY QUESTION!Sorry, it gets ignored in my signature.Mods
I have a .net Windows Service developed in VB.net. I have a settings file in the root directory called Connections.XML and I am setting the basedirectory [code]...

I have developed a Windows Service in VB.Net (VS2010) which is running on Windows7. I am trying to get "MainWindowTitle" for processes thru their process object but it returns empty.
I'm writing a windows service (MacTimeFix.exe) to fix the Windows time on a Macintosh (it's like this: i live in Moscow (GMT+03:00), and Mac OS thinks that the system time is GMT+00:00 and adds 03:00 to it< and Windows thinks that system time is the local time).I need to execute my code when my VB app is closed. (it happens with the shutdown of Windows) The form is invisible (hidden), and the user mustn't click anything except windws shutdown button. It is a service. When i write a Form1_FormClosing sub, it works only on Alt+F4 or CloseButton and doesn't work when the app is stopped from Windows Task Manager or whatever also.I need a way to execute sub when app is closed with taskkill (without /force) or a way to execute a several app on Winshutdown.
Here is my code:

I am working on a .NET Windows Service where I am trying to store settings that will be used when the service is started and while it is running. I have searched through posts on SO and found that using the Settings in the properties of the project is great for use with console and winforms applications. However, Google and SO are silent when it pertains to storing these settings with a windows service.
Is there a way in which I could invoke a windows form from a particular windows service....??
Have created a windows service, installed it and everything is working fine... Now I want to design another windows form that I would call from the service while running it I know that with the help of ServiceController class we could interact with windows service from a windows application but am not sure of the other way round implementation....
