I'm trying to set the focus to a ComboBox on program startup.[code]...
The DropDownStyle is set to DropDown so the user can type text in the text field. At program start I want the this control to have focus with the cursor in it & ready to accept text. As it is now the user has to first click on the ComboBox to type in it. Setting its focus doesn't seem to do what I want.
I have tried this code select and set the focus to the combo Box but it doesnt work...

I want to set the focus on the first object to be used by users in a form. It's a combobox. I do the following on form load:

but nothing happens. The cursor is not blinking in the combo text and if i type something it is not written in the combobox...

I have a datagridview with a combobox column. The combobox column is populated from a collection. I begin to add data to the dgv, I select in the first row a value in the combobox and go to the second row. In the second row, when the combobox gets the focus, it appears 'V18', also the selected value before. Why? This control will be nested on a form, and I want the on-board timer to track how long each control is active. I am trying to use the focus events of the combobox's to determine if the control is active so the program will know when the timer should be started and stopped. As you can see, there are points in this sub-routine that can cause the focus to shift, as well as fire the text changed event. While this all happens faster than is really noticable, I would like to eliminate the extra cycles if at all possible. As I mentioned in question one, I am adding this control to a form, to be more clear I am adding multiple instances of this control to a single form, and I am trying to use the focus events to determine which of the controls within the form are active; however, when the form itself is no longer the active application, whether it is minimized, behind another application or otherwise, all of the timers stop. I want whichever control was active at the time that the form was deactivated, to continue as if nothing changed.
I have a combobox on an Excel worksheet that I can tab into, then pick my data (located on another worksheet) after activating the "arrow". But the tab or enter key does not allow me to navigate away from the cell after it is populated. The only action that allows the user to move to another cell is by mouse/click to another cell. I am trying to make navigation through though worksheet as user friendly as possible.I can't seem to find any sample code that will take the focus away from that cell using Tab or Enter.
I have no problem with ListBoxes created using the Data Validation method but I have to create a ComboBox control on the active worksheet in order to return the data chosen (in this case a code that corresponds to a description). If this was a Form I wouldn't have any problem as the properties would allow me to set that up, but this is essentially a spreadsheet I've inherited and the current users do not want to go to a Data Entry Form.

I added the colLocation to dgv."descirption" contains Unicode characters. I can see the comboBox correctly and choose the item.The problem is when the comboBox lost the focus, the value is changed to first item of the comboBox.
Updated:I found out that the ComboBox doesn't change the data when the DisplayMember is in English characters. It changes only when the DisplayMember is in Unicode chracter.
I have a DataGridView with several columns. One column is a TextBox column named "Status". This column can only show one of three values: 'Final', 'Ready', or 'No Reportable'. I want to have some code that would turn the TextBox cell into a ComboBox cell when the user left-clicks on the cell to allow the user to choose one of these three options. When the user clicks elsewhere or the cell loses focus I want the cell to change back to a TextBox cell.
Here is what I have so far, but the code throws an exception indicated below Plus, I don't think the code would remove the combobox when the cell loses focus.
Exception: "Provided cell does not belong to this DataGridView control."

Is there a more efficient/easier way changing the backcolor of a control when it has focus and lost focus? Let's say I've got 10 text boxes. Right now I would have 20 different events...10 for Enter event and 10 for Leave event. Of course, entering would change the back color to "green" and leaving would change it back to "white".

View 1 RepliesI have two forms in an application. One is he background and then I show another keypad form called with the show() method (not showDialog) because I need to perform some validations on btn click.
The kepad has 10 buttons and an Enter Button. The problem is that the form keeps loosing focus (I checked this with a messagebox which keeps poping up once for focus=true and again for focus=false, it continuously keeps losing and gaining focus) so it does not process any keypress events untill i click somewhere on the form. I tried using me.focus() in form load event but to no avail. The forms TopMost property is also set to true.

View 3 RepliesI have a textbox on a form that when it loses focus it updates other text boxes on the form. But before it updates the other textboxes I check the input value in the textbox lostfocus event if it is undesired I return focus to the the textbox and alert the the user with a msgbox. However where my problem is, is that when the cancel button is clicked I don't care what the input in the textbox is because the changes are being canceled but if the value is undesired the it keeps returning focus to the textbox instead of canceling the changes. Is there a way to see what control was clicked on before or in the lost focus event? Can't seem to figure it out tried enter and leave events but no luck!

However, when done working with it, and closing the Dialog1, the focus returns to cell 3 in my Datagridview1 . I like to set the focus on the next cell(4) making it the current cell.
I have tryed :

I have a tab control application, each tab loads a particular user control and each of those user controls will then add other user controls that are used amongst other the user controls. For example, I have an "ucQuotes" page and an "ucInventory" page, when the specific tab is selected, the "uc****" user control is loaded on that page, and in the case of "ucQuotes" and "ucInventory" they both use a control called "ucPartNumber"; a user control consisting of a combobox, textbox, and button. I have no issues reusing the shared user controls, in this case. My problem arises with my "ucQuickPrice" control, as it is always present at the bottom of the tab control form (separate from the tabcontrol, but on the same form), and it too uses ucPartnumber.
Here's my issue, as I type into the ucPartnumber combobox, the text I type does not appear in the combobox, it appears in the textbox of the ucPartnumber control that is being used on the tabcontrol page. There are no shared instances of ucPartNumber, nor do I have this issue between typing on one tab page and the text showing on the user control of another tab page.I tried just creating the ucPartNumber controls on the ucQuickPrice control, not adding a new instance of ucPartnumber on the .Load event, and the issue persists.
The combobox(s) in question are bound programmatically with about 40,000 items, ".datasource = dataset.tablename" not to a bindingsource. Autocomplete is set to none, I added code to utilize tool tips and the basic combobox filtering functionality. Is this a bug, or is there something I'm neglecting? I'm about 95% complete with this application, and this just happened today. I made the decision, to just reuse the ucPartNumber control on the ucQuickPrice control (originallly it's size and orientation would not fit, but I added some coding to detect what parent is adding ucPartNumber and to change its appearance accordingly). Before, I made this change, I did not have this problem. And, in trying to go back to how I had things set up before the change, the problem will not go away. if the whole control within a control verbage I used is a bit confusing, let me know and I'll try to better explain what is happening. At this point, I'm going to close and reopen vbexpress, as when I started this ordeal, vb started acting weird and wanted me to save all my work, it usually does this before locking up.
I am new to vb.net and I am using visual studio 2010. I have two comboboxes on a form, each combobox is set to DropDownList so that a list of items can show in the combobox, but no text is allowed to be entered.
For combobox A, if user chooses item 1, the list of combobox B should be updated accordingly. I think this is quite common on a lot of applications. But I do not know to implement it. I even do not know the keyword to search for the relevant property or event handler.

I am making a custom ComboBox, inherited from Winforms' standard ComboBox. For my custom ComboBox, I set DrawMode to OwnerDrawFixed and DropDownStyle to DropDownList. Then I write my own OnDrawItem method. But I ended up like this:

Update 1: ButtonRenderer After searching all around, I found the ButtonRenderer class. It provides a DrawButton static/shared method which -- as the name implies -- draws the proper 3D button. I'm experimenting with it now.
Update 2: What overwrites my control?I tried using the Graphics properties of various objects I can think of, but I always fail. Finally, I tried the Graphics of the form, and apparently something is overwriting my button.

I'm making a combobox on a form. I want the combobox to have a list of choices from a table in a db. The two columns are a String and a Date. I want the date column to only show the year. I'm hoping I have the code right as it is above, but I'm not positive I've done the whole date thing right.
I think my question is discriptive, or as Microsoft in the Documentation for Data Grid the question is, How do I have a combo box column display a sub set of data based upon the value of a different combo box column?
