I've got a listbox and I'm setting a default value, or so I thought, in the form load proc., but it doesn't allow me to change the value later on. It sort of sets it permanently...
I've got values 1 - 12 and I want 10 to be the default showing on the screen for the users, but I do want them to be able to choose another value and be able to retrieve it from the screen when a button is pressed.

I have a listbox and I want to loop through each of the items to see if the string im looking for is inside. I know I could do .contains but that wouldnt look at substrings. The code im using looks like this:

Everything in the loop is fine but VB gives an error on the listbox(tempInt) part. The error is "class windows.forms.listbox cannot be indexed because it has no default value". get around the default value crap? I tried putting in a blank string but no change.
Can you populate a Listbox and not have a default item selected?(Usually I see the first item in the list automatically selected at creation).
View 5 RepliesSo I am making a Proxy Clicker and I have a list box full of IP's, and that use the default port of 80. Buttons to start and stop clicking, and another list box just to display the status of the program. I want this program just to go through the list box of IPs and connect to the internet using the selected IP and the default port (80). [code] However, it gets an error after it finishes clicking the first one. When it goes to change to the second one and click it, it gives me an error saying that you cannot have 2 connections open at once. So I tried.. [code] What do I do to fix this error? What is it looking for inside the ()'s of the .EndConnect feature?

View 3 RepliesI have been trying to create a custom control based on the ListBox called FileListBox. I followed Microsoft's walkthrough but am having some trouble.
What I want is to add another property to the ListBox called SafeItems which is an ObjectCollection of strings (like the Items property). I will use the Items property to store a collection of Filenames as strings and I would like to store the corresponding SafeFilenames in the SafeItems collection.

I have a listbox on my form which gets items added as the program progresses, when there are more items than the box can display, the vertical scrollbar appears, fine... so far so good.I would like the scrollbar default position to be at the bottom of it's column so that the last entered item is displayed but can't find the relevant command, I assume there is such a command.

View 5 RepliesIf I set a ListBox.Height = ListBox.PreferredHeight when the control is hidden and IntegralHeight = True, then set it visible:
a) Actual Height reduces by typically 3-5 pixels after redraw (but not 1 pixel per item).
b) PreferredHeight does not not appear to give the correct integral of item heights.
Is there a way to make ListBox calculate the correct integral Height before the ListBox is made visible, so it can be correctly pre-positioned from bottom edge?

Is it possible to set a project default for VB.NET winforms projects so that the default Modifier for controls added to winforms is Private (not Friend)?I know there's a "modifiers" property in the properties window so I can set it for each individual control however I would like to change the project so from now on myself and other developers have to specifically decide to change from friend to private. (Which I would strongly discourage them from doing).I believe there is no way of doing this, but on another forum a while ago someone mentioned it would be possible with an add-in (but didn't name the add-in or where to get it).

I am using VB 08 running an openfiledialogue wanting to get the result of the GDS file (*.gds) to be the default extension at the drop down menu instead of All file when the openfiledialogue box opens.
I coded it with:
OpenFileDialogue.Filter = "GDS File(*.gds)|*.gds|All files|*.*"
but the results i get in the open file dialogue box remains as all files being in the drop down menu as the default file extension. How to i set it to ".gds" format?
I am using VB.NET (version 2008). I have two types of items populating in a listbox (checked listbox). For example: lets say one is type "A" and other is "Type B". Their names maybe same so if the user sees those items in listbox then he won;t be able to determine their type until he click on them and checks out its properties. I wanted that I add each item to listbox and colour them so that blue for example means type "A" is there and red means the other. So this way I will be able to know at a glance that how many item of what type is present. I guess it may not be possible to do that in a standard checkedlistbox. I am also using component factory's krypton controls which enhance the gui of an application. But I dunno if I can progress using that.
View 5 RepliesThe scrollbar that comes with the ListBox is too small for touch screens, so I use my own scrollbar instead. But when you do this on various forms you end up repeating a lot of code. So my solution was to create a custom scollbar that has a property I can set to the control I want it to be a scrollbar for. In vb6, I can use the withevents keyword to get access to the control's events so that all the scrollbar related code can be in the custom scrollbar object I created, except...I had to create a refresh method for the consuming code to use to let the scrollbar know when the number of items changes. The scrollbar doesn't need to be told how many items there are because it has access to the control, but for a listbox there is no event to tie into when an item is added/removed so not 100% of the scrollbar related code could be encapsulated.

I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition and I am trying to set a listbox so it starts to scroll when it hits the middle point of what is viewable on my list. I also want to set it so the list is always visible so you when you reach the bottom of the list you can scroll down to the bottom but if you scroll back up once it reaches that middle point it will start to scroll up again.

I am having problems with copying from one listbox to another and keeping the paths of the files in the listbox's. At the moment i have two listbox's, listbox1 shows the list of files without the directory paths showing. Listbox2 is used to add items from listbox1 which work ok but what i need is to be able to preserve the directory paths to each file. how to do this and have searched high and low for a solution without any luck.
I have worked out one way of doing it but i think there is a better way of doing it as the reverse does not seem to work. So basicly i want listbox1 to list the files without the paths and pass it on to listbox2 so that the files can be copied to temp directory as they are being add to listbox2.
