Setting Notify Icons And Threads For Form In App?

I am making an application which has a form that I have set a notify icon for, I load this form at startup and then hide it. Then I have another form that the user can load (from the notify icon) which loads and runs a sub on another thread using the following
Dim d As New MyDeligate(AddressOf ProcessReminders)
d.BeginInvoke(AddressOf RemindersComplete, Nothing)
When this is executed another notifyicon appears, and then when the form closes it stays. I also notice that the memory usage remains higher than when the form loads. How do I prevent this, I am not sure but I believe that by creating the new thread it recreates the initial form and then it is not destroyed.

I have found several examples of how to set text of a textbox across threads, but no examples of how to set other properties like the checked on a checkbox. What i am doing is listening on a serial port for data received.When the port receives the data I want to check a character in the string to see if it is a 1 ot 0 and set the checkbox to the proper state.I cannot figure out how to do that across threads.

I am writing a program in VB2010 Express that handles serial port communication. All subs and functions that handle writing to, and reading from the serial port are in a module. These subs and functions are typically called from a form, e.g. by pressing a button. Simply saying I've added an Notify Icon to my project and then added context menu showing up when the left mouse button is pressed. The problem is that with the context menu some blank form is showing in the taskbar. There is no such form within the project.Does anyone know why it may be happening or how to get rid of the effect? I might add that I have other context menu attached for mouse right click button and it works fine, no blank forms and such showing on the taskbar it's just the left mouse button that works that way.Here is the code that I am using to show the menu:(the visible state to false is necessary for the other menus not to pop up with the one i want... unless anyone knows better method)

TortoiseSVN and Dropbox both have Windows shell extensions that make file icons within Windows Explorer show a small icon beside the main one, showing the file's status - has it been synced, etc How can I make my application show icons beside files like that using the Windows API? Or is there some file attribute to do that?

I just had a new, last-minute idea on to take on a task, so I am running to StackExchange for quick help.
What I want to do is execute a series of methods right in a row, each in their own threads. I want the application to wait until all of these threads are completed, after which the program will resume. It also has to use managed threading (thread pool).
What quick examples could you provide to help me along the way? If it's too complex, what things should I know about so that I can Google it on my own?

I have a main thread which is designed to be a batch processor - it spawns a series of 'child' threads from a loop (which can vary in terms of the no of items) - see below

However, each of the 'child' threads could take anywhere from milliseconds to about a minute to process - depending on the complexity of each calculation. There may also be a large number of child threads - e.g 100s. Creating large numbers of child threads is not efficient. I therefore want some way to effectively queue each child thread (and cancel if the process is taking too long to complete). Autoevents seems like one way of doing this, but the only examples I can find seem to assume there are two different processes on seperate threads, not one process being repeated.

I have set up a notify icon for my form. I want to make it so that when the user clicks the close button that it doesn't close the form it just takes it to shows the notify icon. They can exit the program from the notify icon. Can someone tell me how to keep it running?

I have been working on a small side project that will read in from a serial port and send off a email depending on what it receives. I've just recently figured out threading, and how to use it. I was even able to figure how to make a background thread modify the text property of any form control that has a text property.
I figured if you could specify the name of the control whose Text property you want to modify, it could be done easily, and I was right[code]...
Is there a way that you could do this, but eliminate the need to specify the control type as a parameter and maybe have the application determine what control you're trying to use by it's name?

I have created a form and display alot of icons on the location that I want. After I displayed several icon on the form then I would like to delete a couple of them but I could not find the history of location or a link to that icon so I can not delete it.

I have a thread that it calling many processes.
While the processes are executed (spends some seconds or minutes in completing all the tasks) I show form "Please wait to complete all tasks".
But one of these processes I have to show a form because the user has to choose a few data. But the problem is that this form is showed minimized.
Already I have tried to show it maximized and to bring it to the front but it does not do it.
how I can show this form to front and maximized?
My actual code is:

When I open a form in my application and I maximize it, the Icon and the ControlBox are merged in the menu of the MDI parent where I open the form in. That is perfectly normal.
But when I close that form and open an other and also maximize it, I get two icons and two control boxes in my menu. When I close that form and open an other again and maximize it on it's turn, I get 3 icons and 3 control boxes in my menu. When I close the maximized form shouldn't the icon and the controlboxes dissapear?

When multithreading in VB, if you close the form while different threads are running, the process itself will not end. Is there a way I can force all threads to end, or end the process like in the Task Manager, when the form is closed?

Form1 shows form2 and form2 shows form3. From form2 I can change the value of the textbox in form1 but from form3 I can't change the textbox value in form2.Please can you look at the application and correct it so I can change the value in the textbox of form2 from form3.

I have a second form that loads when the main form loads. It sits behind the main form, is mainly transparent and does not allow interaction from the User.
Its as if the form is on the desktop, which is what I'm going for.
I set the location of the form to be in the top right hand corner of the desktop. On my PC, which is a 23" monitor, it works and looks great. But when I use my application on a notebook or a smaller screen, the form gets cut off. Why is obvious, because of the screen size differences.
What I want to know is how I might set the form to a more... definitive position. Rather, relative to the size of the screen.
I haven't searched much yet, but maybe there is a way to set the location of the form to a specific location of the desktop, not relative to the size of the screen.

I created this simple textpad program in WPF/VB.NET 200 that automatically saves the content of the forms to an XML file on every keystroke.Now, I'm trying to make the program see the changes on the XML file in realtime.. example, If I open two of my textpads, when I write on the first one, it will automatically reflect on the other textpad.
