Setting A Control Based On A Name Assigned By A String?

I have 26 buttons, each corresponding to the letter of the alphabet from A thru Z. I have a method that I've created that accepts a button as a parameter and sets the case to UPPER case if the text of the button is lower case or lower case if the text of the button is UPPER case. My method looks as follows:
Private Sub ChangeLetterCase(ByRef MyButton As Button)
If _upperCase Then
MyButton.Text = Chr(Asc(MyButton.Text) + 26)
[code]....

The company has a Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate project that is written in Visual Basic. The project has several strings in the resources file (Resources.resx). One of those strings (VersionSuffix) contains "" when we are distributing a normal version of our product and "BETA" when we are distributing a beta version of our product. Most of the time we distribute a normal version of our product. Therefore, most of the time the resource string VersionSuffix contains "".
Recently, we attempted to distribute a beta version of our product. Therefore, we changed resource string VersionSuffix from "" to "BETA". However, it quickly became apparent that the resource string VersionSuffix was being used as the default value for several control properties in the form designer. For example, if I draw a rich textbox on a form then file FORMNAME.Designer.vb will contain the following.
Me.RichTextBox1.Location = New System.Drawing.Point(286, 306)
Me.RichTextBox1.Name = "RichTextBox1"
Me.RichTextBox1.Size = New System.Drawing.Size(134, 33)
Me.RichTextBox1.TabIndex = 32
Me.RichTextBox1.Text = Global.PROJECTNAME.My.Resources.Resources.VersionSuffix
We are unable to find anything anywhere that indicates that this resource string should be used as the default value for control properties. Therefore, we have no idea why this resource string is being used for this purpose. We would like to change the control property assignments in the designer from Me.RichTextBox1.Text = Global.PROJECTNAME.My.Resources.Resources.VersionSuffix
Me.RichTextBox1.Text = "" However, we don't know why these strange assignments are being made. Therefore, as soon as someone adds another control the problem will most likely return. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to prevent it from happening again?

Currently, whenever I pass a string to the db, if that string is empty, then i set that object to NULL by doing the following:
IIf(DescriptionTxt.Text.length > 0, DescriptionTxt.Text, DBNull.Value)
I was thinking about writing a function to reduce the length of this code, and make it more consistent.However, I was wondering, is there already a way of doing this in .NET 3.5?

I have this VB.Net 1.1 project that I have to make some changes to. There is a flag in the App.config file. If it is false, the page just loads a splash screen and runs the program normally. If it is true it first opens a login window. VB.Net is not something I've ever worked with before. I can't for the life of me figure out where the logic for the picking the startup object is. In the property pages, Main.vb is always set as the startup object, but that's not even the window that loads up when the flag is false, it always comes after the splash screen.

I have a radio button control on a web form. The members of my ListItem collection are
assigned the following.
Text No
Value 0
Text Yes
Value 1
So what I need to do, is to readd a varchar value from my database and if the column value returned equals 'Yes' then I need to select the radio button that has the assigned value of 1. Otherwise if the value read from the database is 'No', then I need to select the radio button assigned a value of 0
So how can I set the value for my radio button? I experimented and could not figure it out. The 'Yes' or 'No' value is stored in my database in the field ds.Tables("employee").Rows(0).Item("answer")
So I tried something like this which is not correct:
RadioButtonList1.Items.FindByValue(ds.Tables("employee").Rows(0).Item("answer") = "Yes").Equals(True)

i wanted to ask how to make picturebox1 ,to which functions are already assigned, perform the same function as picturebox2 ,to which no functions are assigned.For example:I have already made picturebox1 and have assigned it alot of function like when play button is pressed then picturebox1.visible = true and when we press pause button picturebox1.visible = false. So now i decided to make a theme and have to remove the picturebox1 and want to allow the picturebox2 to havefunction of picturebox1.But when i disable the theme the function of picturebox1 should go back to picturebox1.

I've played around with this and have figured most of it on how to set the properties of most controls in the designer. I have 2 check boxes I need to set the values on but do not know how. 2 fields one for each in the db with a char(1) value, can be Y or N. If it a Y in the db how would I set it as checked on the form?
'cboPosition
Me.cboPosition.DataBindings.Add(New System.Windows.Forms.Binding("SelectedValue", Me.FmfieldmanmasterBindingSource1, "position_name", True))
Me.cboPosition.DataBindings.Add(New System.Windows.Forms.Binding("Text", Me.FmfieldmanmasterBindingSource1, "position_name", True))

I am converting a 1.1 .NET web app to 3.5, and I've run into a bit of a jam.
One web control has a Property that sets the page title label on that web control.
End Property
When a page with the web control was loaded before, it would set the Property to a given string, like in ucHeader.PageTitle = "This is a string." Now, if I don't remove the lblPageTitle.Text = Value, I get a NullReference Exception.

I am currently trying to be able to set the HTML in a WebBrowser control. The bit that I am having the trouble with is that when I go to put the HTML in the WebBrowser control on Form.Load or Form.Activated the WebBrowser1.Document.Body is Nothing. This means when I try to do; WebBrowser1.Document.Body.InnerHtml = value I'm getting an exception as I am trying to use it.I have also tried setting the HTML on the DocumentCompleted event for the WebBrowser control, but that event doesn't fire when I load the form (to be honest I didn't think it would but it was suggested somewhere on the Internet).

I am using a user control using vb.net. It include the program to retrieve the values from database while giving the paramers. When I set the property from my main program i am getting an error "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed." When i gone to the online help i got the message as follows "System.InvalidOperationException (.NET Framework 4)The exception that is thrown when a method call is invalid for the object's current state. InvalidOperationException is used in cases when the failure to invoke a method is caused by reasons other than invalid arguments. For example, InvalidOperationException is thrown by IEnumerator.MoveNext if objects of a collection are modified after the enumerator is created, or ResourceSet.GetString if the resource set is closed before the method call is made. If the method invocation failure is due to invalid arguments, then ArgumentException or one of its derived classes, ArgumentNullException or ArgumentOutOfRangeException, should be thrown instead.[code]

I am having one heck of an issue with a webbrowser control I am using. As part of my job, I am working on creating a tool to automate an older system that we still use. The part that is being automated is web-based, and the group running the automation does not have access to any automation tools like QTP. In order to give them something they can use, the idea was to build an application just for them. In this application, I have everything working perfectly, with the exception of the most important part: the entry of a policy number. The policy number goes into a textbox, and then the user presses a button. A part of the automation sequence involves the use of a timer.
If I manually navigate to the appropriate page and put the .SetAttribute statement in a button action on my form, it works perfectly fine. However, if I put the .SetAttribute statement anywhere that is being controlled by the timer ticking, it does not work.So, this works:
Private Sub btnTest_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnTest.Click
Me.wbPrestige.Document.Window.Frames("WORKSPACE").Document.GetElementById("policynumber").SetAttribute("value", "1234567")
End Sub
but this does not:
Private Sub timerLoad_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles timerLoad.Tick
Select Case currentStatus
Case Status.wait_for_retrieving
[code]....
As a note, I do not have the Select statement in the Tick action; I have it in its own little sub. However, since it functions the same way no matter where it is, and to save space, I combined everything here. Also, at the time of the timer firing and setting things into motion to enter the policy number, the page is already fully loaded, so I don't think it is an issue with that, though I could be wrong.
It does not throw an error. The "1234567" above is passed in as a string, and doing a watch on it at run-time does show that the value is actually in there. It just seems like the .SetAttribute is not registering on the textbox. I have tried a few things ranging from "what-if" all the way to "that-is-so-dumb-it-just-might-work." Nothing seems to do the trick. I have tried sleeping everything for a few seconds just to see if there was an issue there. I have tried issuing the .SetAttribute command a few times in a row thinking it just wasn't taking the first time. Since setting .Focus() didn't seem to work for it, I even went so far as using SendKeys to move focus to the textbox on one attempt and API calls for mouse clicks (to click inside of the textbox) on another attempt. As a last crazy attempt, I had the Select statement doing a .PerformClick on btnTest (which works if I navigate to the page manually).

I am creating a customised version of the ListView control and there are several of the properties that a ListView has that I would like to be set to a different value to the ListView default when a user goes to use my user control.
From what I've found there seems to be a number of people suggesting just set them in the constructor, but to the best of my knowledge that would just mean that the user would not be able to change the properties in the PropertyGrid in the VS IDE.I assume this is probably something extremely simple that I have overlooked.

VB.Net's DataGridView supports naming columns, but I was wondering if it could somehow do the same for rows, so that we could use something like this:
With DataGridView1
.Rows.Add(4)
.Rows(0).Name = "Setting1"
[Code].....
Do you confirm that it's not possible and we must use numeric indexes to refer to row numbers?
