VB.Net's DataGridView supports naming columns, but I was wondering if it could somehow do the same for rows, so that we could use something like this:

Do you confirm that it's not possible and we must use numeric indexes to refer to row numbers?
I have two datagridview's both are databound. First one shows items for sale and the second stores all the items that were sold. I am trying too transfer selected rows from one to the other but no matter what I keep getting told "Rows cannot be programmatically added to the DataGridView's rows collection when the control is data-bound."
View 2 RepliesI need a help with showing/hiding rows in datagridview by setting the trackbar value. The below example works if there are not too much rows. If there are greater number of rows then after you change a value of trackbar you must wait for a few seconds for the datagridview to redraw and only then you can use trackbar again.Apparently I must use multithreading to achieve what I want: when I use trackbar, datagridview starts to redraw, but if I use trackbar again before datagridview finishes redrawing, it immediately stops redrawing according to previous trackbar value and starts to redraw from the beginning according to current trackbar value. That way trackbar will never be frozzen (stuck, unusable...).I tried with backgroundworker but got error "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control '' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on." I have old and slow computer. If you have new and fast computer maybe you wont experience what I'm describing here so try to increase number of added rows in line 'For i As Integer = 1 To 5000' (I added 5000 rows here) - and if you have even older and slower computer than you will have to decrease this value or you will have to wait to long after you drag the thumb in trackbar.

All I am attempting to do is allow the user to select products from a list(or a second datagridview) and have it added to the datagridview so they do not have to type in every cell since the other cells are not visible because they do not purtain to their needs. I have drawn out a datagridview onto my form at a certain size.But, say I have 3 rows of data and they dont fill the grid to its bottom. So I'm left with a bunch of empty grey color stuff in the rest of the control below.Is there any simple property/method that will fit the control size to just the rows loaded, or am I being too picky?

without success, though I did not expect that to work. It absolutely must select that last cell. Otherwise, the application is nearly impossible to use!

2. I am attempting to make a custom control, and as with ANY control, they have their.. settings. Example, a textbox, or label, has so you can set the Text. and color, etc.Others, have it (such as datagridview) have the little icon on the control itself, where you click it, and it opens a small window with settings.
Is there any way to get common control names like Save, Copy or Undo Redo in the user's windows language? (I saw this in some programs which weren't made for my windows language. Also the Yes No Massage Boxes will change...)

We have this current VBA program to help us with AutoCAD via the use of a template excel sheet.The setup we have created works well; however occasionally we have two drawings per folder, which often results in, two templates excel sheets of the same name, one overwriting the other. how I can set the active drawing name in a variable that our program uses to check for, then if not present that it creates a copy of out template and then saves it as the active drawings file name which was set as the variable
This would allow our program to locate the associated excel sheet by name then save it by the unique drawing name and prevent existing excel files being overwritten if in the same folder.

How would i delete only the successful inserted rows for insert and then move the non successful rows up and allow the user to correct the data and get it ready for an insert. If i dont delete the successful rows then i will have multiple inserts of the same dataRow and we dont want that! AND if i dont move the data up then it will have blank rows uptop and will end the try and not insert the corrected data. You can better see what logic i am trying to perform at the bottom of my code, right after I insert into the database. Here is my code.

Lets say we have an Access file in a well known path (i.e. "C:MyFolderMyFile.mdb"). That file does not have a primary key set on the table we are interested in . Is it possible to set one of the fields as a primary key (for example the "ID" field , which is also an AutoNumber data) ? And one more thing : I'd like to change the name of a field on that table . For example , lets say there is a field called "My Field 1" (note the space characters) and we want it to be renamed as "My_Field_1" . If it's possible , I'd like both these changes to be permanent in the data base file itself , not just in the imported DataSet ,

ParentTable (ParentID, Name) for user data ChildTable (ParentID, ActivityID, ...) for schedule data
Tables are linked together at the database level by ParentID which is an Identity column in ParentTable.
Both tables are data bound to a separate DataGridView on the GUI. There supposed to be a "1 parent/N children" relationship between the tables, meaning if I create a new entry in the ParentTable (a new user) I get a clean DataGrid in the child grid to type schedule data for the user. So I setup two DataAdapters for each table to fill their result into a DataSet. I also set up a DataRelation object and assign it to the DataSet to link the two tables by their ParentID columns. Also when I add a row into the ChildTable via DataGrid I use SetParentRow to set the parent row.

i have a Janus grid, which has two columns and the rows are organized in a hierarchical order i.e. parent and child rows. One of the columns in the grid is grouped (by dragging the column in the group by box above the grid). I have a cell-changed event that is fired when a cell content is changed. I do this in the cell-changed event:[code]If i change the value, in a parent row, of the grouped column then the child rows are set to Nothing. After the last line in the above snippet, child rows of row are set to Nothing. On the other hand, this problem does not occur if i change the value of the other column (which is not in the group by box). The problem occurs only if i group a column and change its value not otherwise.

What am looking at is Change FKColumn2 (some foreign key, maybe i can also have a combo box somewhere on the form and an "import to") values to something like 2 and save the rows back to the database without loosing the original rows.
I have several problems with rows in a DataGridView. Background information: The DataGridView (DataGridViewCalib) is in one TabPage of a TabControl, some columns of the DataGridView are automatically DataGridViewCheckBoxColumn as the DataSource have some colums which are Boolean. This is a Windows Form written in VB.Net with Visual Studio 2008. The user loads an input data file.
The problems:
1) At first arrival in the TabPage, ShowDataGridViewCalib (code below) is called. All rows are then shown in the DataGridView, despite the code saying that some rows should not be visible. Breakpoints in the code show that the code do arrive at the Rows.Visible = False events. Despite all rows beeing shown a Watch in the debugger shows that:

View 1 RepliesI've been trying to use lookup tables to display names instead of ID's in a DataGridView using a DataGridComboBoxColumn and have even copied the example shown in the Forms over Data videos produced by Microsoft but still get the following error message:System. =Argument Exception:DataGridView ComboBoxCell value is not valid..Everything was done in the designer and the problem only occurs with the DataGridView; lookups work fine using a combo box when displaying single records.Also the error message only pops up when I close the form. Prior to that all the names are displayed correctly for each record, the drop down list shows the names correctly and I can edit, add and delete rows and save all my edits with no problems. Its just when I close the form that the problem occurs.Each time I press OK in the message box the names in the combo boxes are removed, one by one.
