Setting Up Database Within A Project?

Mar 11, 2010

I have created a project with my forms & a little bit of validation logic, the basic skeleton of the project looks just fine. The data that I have for the project is currently in 2 Excel spreadsheets, so I have created a database within my project (I chose a SQL option, even though I have only ever used Access in the past) & I now have Database1.sdf & MyFinancesDB.xsd in my Solution Explorer.

I have created 2 Tables, the same as the Spreadsheets & have created Columns as necessary, and also set up Primary keys in both Tables and linked the Primary key of the Parent Table to a keyed column in the Child Table ... I *think* I have done what I need to do.Now, the big question (assuming I have set things up correctly !) is how do I import / load the data from the Excel spreadsheets into the SQL Tables?

May 6, 2009

I have a project that I have created, it something like a contact database. It is complete with its own sql server database, and controls and forms.I kinda of understand that I can include this project into another project. This is the tricky part,Can I include my contact project into another project and add more items to the database and forms in a new project? What I'm after is like using classes. My contact database would be like the base class, and the new project would be adding more features to that project.

Setting The Path For A New Project?

I'm new to VB .Net and I've searched for this info in the help files, but couldn't find it.When I save a project it automatically saves it to "C:Documents and SettingsusernameLocal SettingsApplication DataTemporary Projectsfilename".I want to be able to set this path ahead of time to where I want it to go. I've set a path in the Tools > Options > Projects and Solutions > General tab (under Project Location), but it doesn't use it.

The app is a visual Studio Add-in How can I encrypt and decrypt the password before and after I enter it into the Settings file? I don't really need anything fancy. It's just a little in-house app. But I'd like to know all my options

Deployment :: Application Icon Setting In Project Properties

Jun 5, 2009

I have a icon for my application that I set in the project properties window there is a little drop down box to browse to the icon location. While debugging everything is good. Once I build the app and place it on a PC and manually start the app all is good. My app starts with windows and now every time the program goes to start I get an error that the icon cannot be found in the DocumentandSettingUSERNAME folder. So the question is do I have to place my app icon in this folder? In design I have the icon in the binDebug folder and that is were I point to in the Project properties page.
I am using VS 2008 VB.net.

Setting The SccAuxPath Property In A .NET Project For A Distributed Team?

Nov 13, 2009

We've recently moved to Team System and now a remote team needs access to our source. However, they use a different IP address to access the Team System server, and whenever they try to open a project, they are prompted to check out and change the project. It seems to be the 'SccAuxPath' property which is the problem.

Setting Global Variables Within Web Project On Login And Set Expiry Time

Dec 1, 2011

I'm developing a revised version of a system I have been using for years, but with all the advantages of .NET features that were not around when I first made this. It's proving a steep learning curve! So, when a user logs in through my Login.aspx page which simply compares username/password to Database record, the system creates a session variable containing the user's Username and various other things. There are two type of variable which will be common to all elements of this system
User Specific data, Username, Permissions, etc

Setting variables, drawn from a database of pre-set facilities which are setup within the system, some will determine which facilities work, how they work, and some will be dependent upon the User's permission. Obviously, I could set everything within the Session data, but that'd be inefficient wouldn't it? If I were to set these globally available variables in my App_Code, how would I go about setting this up so that, for example, those variables which require a database call, are set for the duration of the Logged-In session and do not require constant Database lookups? Further to that, those variables which are dependent on the session state, would need clearing on each LogOut. I am using VB.NET.

Developed Database Project On Vb6 Using Adodc And Datagrid Using Ms Access Database File?

Mar 2, 2010

Friends I have Developed my Data base Project on vb6, using adodc and datagrid using ms access database file, it was working nice in vb6, I also put Search box there and used adodc1.recordsource="select * from table" sql query.

later i needed to convert it in vb.net I converted it, every thing is working fine, but one problem appears, an adodc's Recordsource query for searching records is not working, it only works if there is data in dataset (Datagrid),suppose once i pressed search button to search record and if no record found then dataset / datagrid becomes empty, now i wanted to search an other record with other name, but this time it does not work and following error appears Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been deleted. Requested operation requires a current record.

Or can I set it in the ctor and then have instance methods create up a TransactionScope?

Public Sub SomeClassMethod()

the question is do you need to create the connection to the database after you've created a TransactionScope or can it be done before?

VS 2008 - Setting Database Path From Form?

May 18, 2009

I have an application that's going to be portable so it's likely the path of the database itself (access mdb file) will change so hard wiring the path in the app.config isn't practical. I would like to create a 'Settings' form for the user to enter the path (browse for would be ideal but I can figure that out later) of the database file and save it for future use with the same app. I've found a few things out there talking about creating a new app.config file alongside the original with a 'key' defined but I'm not sure how that relates to the original app.config and how it would call the new variable to make the connection.

Access Database - Setting All Bindings And Table Adapters

Feb 24, 2009

I have a project that I used the 'Connect to Database' tool to set all the bindings and table adapters, etc. Currently the database is housed in the same directory as the exe. I was asked if I could have the database location be a dynamic value. My question is when you set up a project to work with a database using the 'Connect to Database' tool, how can you change its location?

I found this setting:
ASRDBConnectionString
But its read only.
Within that setting is text that says: DataDirectory
So thought that might be a variable to change somewhere....but can't find it.

VS 2008 Setting A Primary Key And Changing The Names Of Some Fields On Database File?

Aug 5, 2011

Lets say we have an Access file in a well known path (i.e. "C:MyFolderMyFile.mdb"). That file does not have a primary key set on the table we are interested in . Is it possible to set one of the fields as a primary key (for example the "ID" field , which is also an AutoNumber data) ? And one more thing : I'd like to change the name of a field on that table . For example , lets say there is a field called "My Field 1" (note the space characters) and we want it to be renamed as "My_Field_1" . If it's possible , I'd like both these changes to be permanent in the data base file itself , not just in the imported DataSet ,

Setting Variables To Store User Setting For Applications

Feb 13, 2012

In our projects we use setting variables to store user setting for the applications. Moreover, with every latest version of the applications, we upgrade these variables to retain user settings.Normally, this works fine, but recently one of my end user reported an error i.e.Configuration System failed to initialize". The error is related to user.config file. Therefore we requested the user to send us his file. After received the folder, we noticed that it contains 3 files (3begfjb.newcfg,3begfjb.tmp and user. config). 3begfjb.tmp is an empty file, while 3begfjb.newcfg and user.config are identical files. We tried to open these files but the data in user.config isn't proper xml rather its unreadable formatted file.Do any you guys had experienced this sort of issue or any ideas how and what may have created these files and corrupted user.config file.

VS 2008 - Timer - Project A References Project B So Can Open A Large Form In Project B

May 5, 2010

For reasons that are beyond my control, I have three Projects. Projects A and B reference project C. Project A references project B so that it can open a large form in project B. I now need to open that large form from project C, but VB won't allow me to add a reference from C to B because that would create a circular dependency. I found a way around it, though. I created a Timer in A, and when I opened C from A, I passed in that timer. When the user performs a certain action, I enable the Timer from A, and this causes C to open B for me.
