Apr 8, 2009I have created a windows application which Installs Multiple MSI's based on some condition. The project is created in Visual Studio 2008 with .Net framework 3.5; If this application runs in a machine which has atleast Dot Net 2.0 installs, it works fine. but the system without framework 2.0 throws an error "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)"
How can I stop my application from crashing. I tried giving a check in the Main(), but it is not even firing the Main(); Is there any way I can give a prerequisite, But not in the Publish, Coz i am using the output exe and not the clickonce output..

Mar 3, 2012Using Visual Studio 2010, Windows 7.Setting up project on one machine, then attempting deployment it on another machine with Windows 7 on it:When it comes to deployment, every time I have one to do, it is like pulling teeth.I am in file system setup, and I have a custom folder created with DefaultLocation set at [CommonAppDataFolder].Supposably you can use the "Common Files Folder" too, but that did not work either.What is happening is, I have three files in this folder, and two of them copy over just fine, when I look at the ProgramData/Tachufind folder, both of those files are in there, but no sign whatsoever of the third file.I have tried deleting and then re-copying the file back in, to no avail.I have tried setting various properties, to see if that will change anything, to no avail. Can't Microsoft make this easier, this is deployment-hell! Is there another application you can use to deploy a project without losing your sanity?

May 7, 2012Have built a project and associated it with a Setup&Deployment Project. The S&D project needs to contain 2 main folders (under User's Desktop) with various formats of files (xmls, txts, dlls) inside them and several subfolders. How can i copy/import these 2 folders and there sub-files/folders into my s&d project?
When adding them in the usual way, they are copied and defined a source path onto the current pc. You can understand what errors this might create when an another targeted pc does not contain those files to the exact location. Is there any way to copy them locally or somehow import them?

Oct 21, 2010We are using ClickOnce Technology to deploy our applications using In Place Hosting Manager.I install Ver 1.0.0.0 for an application XYZ. More upgrades happen and I install till Ver 1.0.0.7. At this point the minimum required version is set to Ver 1.0.0.5. But,now I want to move back to Ver 1.0.0.3.Will In Place Hosting Manager install Ver 1.0.0.3 though we don't change the minimum required version? My motive is to only change the location of deployment manifest and keep on jumping across versions(Up and Down).

Apr 10, 2010I have already wrote my own Registration checking software in VB.NET, however I wanted a Special key that I could use in the Registration, and I want to get this from the user, so when they download my software I will with online feature send them a Serial Number, which they will enter when they install the software, I then want to write it to the Registry using the Setup and Deployment project, so that my application can retrieve it every time it is run to check Registration.

Aug 7, 2009Setup and deploy for my project worked fine for a while allowing you to install my program and uninstall the old version, but now it installs two entries. I don't get it, before I got it do do that it would give an error that it needed to be uninstalled first. Now like I said I get two entries in the programs uninstall window. RemovePreviousVersions = true. I change the version number and update the product code. Even tried changing the upgrade code. I just don't get why it doesn't work anymore, and its really annoying! Also, is there a way that the setup file can just be one .exe rather then a setup file and a data file?

Mar 7, 2011I have three Setup and Deployment problems that are making me even more crazy than I have been accused of currently being.#1 - My project(heavy on text file streamreaders) installs as it should on the target machine but I can only run it on said machine as administrator(works great)... I have tried changing the permissions on the installed project and that did not seem to work. Error - blah blah cannot access [filepath]? ([filepath] is correct and verified. Ideas? Can I set permissions in the install itself? How so?
#2 - #3 (Basically the same questions)I have directed Setup to install a Program Menu and Desktop Icon and it does so. The problem is that the icons are non functioning. Jan 31, 2011how to setup my deployment project so that users can customize thier own settings in app.config? Which special folder in the File System browser should I add, Personal Data, Application Data, or Programs Menu? How do I add the app.config to the folder? What about the project output, should it also be in the same folder? If so, should the project output be taken out of the Application Folder, in other words, exist in one place? I tested my deployment and was shocked that the icon only opened on the test user's pc after installation. I have custom settings in the app.config file that have default values, but must be configurable for user specific settings.

Now the problem is that when I install the setup files, it work on some pcs while didnt run on some others. Framework 2.0 is in its prerequisites which I install before running setup. When I try to see error message, it gives server time out.
