Deployment :: Deploy Database - Where Is My Path
Mar 18, 2010
i am having a big probLem about my Win-base appLication, i am trying to pubLish my project / make it an ".exe = executable" file, it is connected to an ACCESS DATABASE. The problem is that, after getting my application to a ".exe" form, it seems that the application recognize stiLL the original database, where is my path --> OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.oled b.12.0;Data source=C:Usersx3r0Desktopvb_skuLprog_sad_3_te stproducts.accdb") <-- of the originaL database, when i try to input at the ".exe" file, the data are going to the originaL database, and when i tried to change the path, coz i am thinking of using another database, error says cannot find "C:Usersx3r0Desktopvb_skuLprog_sad_3_testpro ducts.accdb"... before changing the databse, ofcourse i have changed that path already for my new database, but it shows an error for the database its using before..

I have created a windows application which Installs Multiple MSI's based on some condition. The project is created in Visual Studio 2008 with .Net framework 3.5; If this application runs in a machine which has atleast Dot Net 2.0 installs, it works fine. but the system without framework 2.0 throws an error "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)"
How can I stop my application from crashing. I tried giving a check in the Main(), but it is not even firing the Main(); Is there any way I can give a prerequisite, But not in the Publish, Coz i am using the output exe and not the clickonce output..

Using Visual Studio 2010, Windows 7.Setting up project on one machine, then attempting deployment it on another machine with Windows 7 on it:When it comes to deployment, every time I have one to do, it is like pulling teeth.I am in file system setup, and I have a custom folder created with DefaultLocation set at [CommonAppDataFolder].Supposably you can use the "Common Files Folder" too, but that did not work either. What is happening is, I have three files in this folder, and two of them copy over just fine, when I look at the ProgramData/Tachufind folder, both of those files are in there, but no sign whatsoever of the third file.I have tried deleting and then re-copying the file back in, to no avail.I have tried setting various properties, to see if that will change anything, to no avail. Can't Microsoft make this easier, this is deployment-hell! Is there another application you can use to deploy a project without losing your sanity?

I'm using v2008 Standard Edition deployment Setup1. In the Properties, it seems I have to declare the manufacturer and this results in a deployment path such as: "C:Program Files TOSHIBA MyAppFolder" when the setup CD I created is used. I really want C:Program FilesMyAppFolder as the path. I'd also like to put an icon on the desktop and create a folder in My Documents that can contain two txt files as part of the deployment. I'm stuck as to how to edit the package. Are these options possible?

I have developed a windows application which performs a series of database operations like select, insert, update. I am connecting to Oracle database and its working fine in development system. But, when I deployed this application, I am getting error at StartConnection (which opens the DB connection). After installing OracleClient in client system, its working fine. Now, my question is that do I need to install OracleClient to every user? If so, it will be hectic to do so as its size is around 200 MB and its not possible to ask all the users to install it just for a small application. I have tried adding some OracleClient files like orannzbb11.dll, oraciei11.dll, iraops11w.dll etc. But in vain! Could anyone please suggest me a work-around or a way to accomplish this?

I am designing a desktop application that will be driven by local data. I am trying to determine the best way to accomplish this. The database would contain about 10-12 tables if I use a database and I would imagine no more than 10000 records in any one table (but honestly 99% of users would not have more than 1000 records). I am thinking about using SQL Server Compact.
Is this a good solution? I can certainly include this in my installation, but I am just wondering if anyone knows of a better solution? If this is the best solution, how would you suggest that I create the tables upon deployment? Should I just run "queries" with create table statements in them from my vb application or include a database file or what?

I was just forced to switch from VB 6 to .Net. I have my program working but I can't figure out how to include the database that I'm writing to in the install package. I can get the program working by dropping it in but I have to deploy this to other locations and I'd like it to be easy for them.

My company has an application that until now has been distributed as exe-file together with lots of dlls. I am about to make an installtion program for this application, but there is one big problem. The database can be both access and SQL, the user decides by what he/she writes in the connection string in the .config file. I know how to insert a custom action in the installtion program to enable to let the user chosse this during installtion, but I don't know how to include the database in the project, especially since it can be both access and SQL.
