How to put the condition on it? or how to prevent user moves it after installation is done?Those files are critical (eg .dll).I already set the 'Hidden' property to 'true', but I think that is not the correct way :)So I try to find another way to do that.

The problem is that, after getting my application to a ".exe" form, it seems that the application recognize stiLL the original database, where is my path --> OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.oled b.12.0;Data source=C:Usersx3r0Desktopvb_skuLprog_sad_3_te stproducts.accdb") <-- of the originaL database, when i try to input at the ".exe" file, the data are going to the originaL database, and when i tried to change the path, coz i am thinking of using another database, error says cannot find "C:Usersx3r0Desktopvb_skuLprog_sad_3_testpro ducts.accdb"... before changing the databse, ofcourse i have changed that path already for my new database, but it shows an error for the database its using before..

I can get the program working by dropping it in but I have to deploy this to other locations and I'd like it to be easy for them.
View 39 RepliesI have created a program to log company and programming information for a radio station, on the test machine it works perfectly when deployed the program cannot read from the database. It creates it fine and can write to it without complaint but when opening the program which is supposed to read information from the database the program crashes, if i ask it to continue then it will bring up the form but nothing which is supposed to be populated by access to the database is populated.ed onto the deployment machine and this does not solve the problem.

I am using a dataset to store queries and update the database.If i was going to copy the database and move the copies location, what would i need to do to make sure that my dataset points to the copy and it's new location.

When I install the application, the database is deployed with read only rights causing errors in the program. Of course, I manually change the rights to Full Control and the application works great. I am about to make an installtion program for this application, but there is one big problem. The database can be both access and SQL, the user decides by what he/she writes in the connection string in the .config file. I know how to insert a custom action in the installtion program to enable to let the user chosse this during installtion, but I don't know how to include the database in the project, especially since it can be both access and SQL.

I am currently creating a VB program that creates a database of questions, and the same or separate database. using them questions it can initiate a quiz that will save results in a different database for each student. I am having difficulties getting the code right for reading the databases, and getting it to move to the next portion of the database for each question... a little more info:
Question # = Primary key (there will not be more then 1 of the same # problem)
Question Type = i am using different integers right now to specify if the question is a T/F, Multiple Choice, Open info Et Cetra.... Question Answer = Correct answer Alt answer (x3) = option to add other answers for multiple choice problems...
I don't know exactly how to get it to read a problem and when clicking a next button on a form to have it go to the next question in the database..
I have a live database and an Archive database. I want to do a selct on the live and basically create a new row in the archive database table and insert all the columns then delete the row from the live. Here is the code that creates and deletes:-

I ran a query in access to show the same sql select and after running my routine they all say #deleted. But when I run the query again I get the rows back WHY!
I have to deploy my VB.NET application, and create a new access database with 5 tables, some filled in with values on installation in a specified folder in the C: drive which also needs to be created. I have found using google havent seemed to work for me. I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, so maybe I need to use a proper copy of Visual Studio 2008 to do this.
So basically I am looking for a way to create a .exe file that will be used to install my program on a user's computer, and create a folder and database with some values on instalation. Could anyone tell me how I can do this or point me in the right direction? EDIT - Also would you be able to answer this question for me. Will the computer that the program will be installed on require visual studio or any other software to run my program?
My application/project has an Access Database as its Project DataSource. I have a DataSet Designer (.xsd), with many TableAdapters, some of which I've created via the Designer. I have 2-10 users/foreman on any given workday, with their own Netbook and my ClickOnce Application.Users will add/edit/delete records in each of their own versions of the App/DataBase, XML files, representing changes, are created and upload to an ftp server.The corner I've painted myself into:When my Project Manager downloads these XML files using his own version of the application, analyzes each reported item, confirms and updates his version what is the best way to propagate those updates back to each user without having to update the project db and publish again?
View 4 RepliesI'm creating this VB 2008 application and I want to make it into a CD so it can be installed in other computers. Problem is, after I create the setup and start it even from the computer that created the application in the first place, it gives me the "unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will wignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately." and "The following file could not be found: "C:UsersMyNameAppDataLocalApps2.0Data\VHMGGXM7.8K8..." errors.
Since my first "form" is a login system, I am not sure if this problem appears because of the database search, or just the transition between forms (unlikely, I guess, since there is sort of an introductory video before the login system which uses the same logic to transition between forms)... So I tried moving the access database to a different path and I wanted to know how to tell the program (through v.b.) that the database is now in "this path" without having to re-connect and create a new DataSet, which will make me have to start the whole project again. I set up the whole project in Program Files (a place all computers must have). The video before the login system works fine, but I can't really find any other problem.
I have done a database system using microsoft access 2007 which connected to a form of vb2008.And now i want to transfer the system to another computer but as i tried it's not work.I already build the file and copy whole folder that contain the bin, obj and my project to the new computer. I tried to run it on the new computer but it show me an error that "selected collating sequence not supported by the operating system".What should i do to overcome this?
View 1 RepliesI have deployed a Visual Studio executible module written in VB Net 3.5 SP 1 with Crystal Reports. When the user tries to view a report(s)they are prompted to login in to the data base that has been data sourced into the report module. The correct database was verified before the build was made. The developer is able to run the report in a run mode on the local machine where the VB project was created. In the properties section in the project the following check boxes pertaining to reports were checked on:
Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008(x86, x64)
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Report Viewer
Notes: If the executible module is deployed to a machine that has Visual Studio 2008 installed, the Reports run fine without a database login prompt.If the executible module is deployed to a machine that does not have Visual Studio 2008 installed, the user is prompted for a login. The data base is a SQL server 2008 database.
ive created a program in VB 2008 and i cant remember how to publish it in such a way that it includes the database that the program uses. At the moment when i publish it, it only works on my system because i have the database on my PC, if i delete the database from my pc the program messes up because it doesnt have a copy of the database in its program resources etc.how do i publish the program so that it includes a copy of the database that it needs to function?
View 6 RepliesI am trying out the Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition Setup and Deployment - Setup Wizard on a very simple VB 2008 app which includes a simple SQL Express dB. The build works fine and it installs on the target system ok. But when I go to run the application and add a new record for example, I get a "read-only" error indicating that the sql db is read-only. Yet none of the files in the folder are read-only. What is odd is that the folder that it was installed into "acts" like it is read only, yet it is not identified as such. If I move the .exe and db files out of that folder, (onto the desktop for example) it works just fine. Should I set up a post build event or something to make

The problem I have is replacing the template.ini file which exists in the sqlexpr32.exe cab file. Winrar and winzip allow me to open the sqlexpr32.exe but will not allow me to edit, add or replace the template.ini.I also cannot find the path where the sqlexpr32.exe extracts to as I want to use that path for the settings file eg "template.ini".[code]

I have a windows app that uses the shape control which is part of the MS power pack and requires Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.Vs.dll. I am using Publish to build my app and I have tried to change the dll to Include in the properties page but nothing seems to work.
I need a way to have the file included and I am unable to find a external copy and I understand that I cannot just copy the dll from my PC into the installation folder
Have built a project and associated it with a Setup&Deployment Project. The S&D project needs to contain 2 main folders (under User's Desktop) with various formats of files (xmls, txts, dlls) inside them and several subfolders. How can i copy/import these 2 folders and there sub-files/folders into my s&d project?
When adding them in the usual way, they are copied and defined a source path onto the current pc. You can understand what errors this might create when an another targeted pc does not contain those files to the exact location. Is there any way to copy them locally or somehow import them?
It's probably just a case of me not looking in the right place or not seeing the obvious, but does anyone know if a machine with just version 2.0 of the .NET Framework should be able to run a VB.NET Express application which accesses a SQL Server Express database file? Or is there an additional requirement for a non-development machine to have some kind of SQL Server Express runtime component in addition to the 2.0 Framework?It seems to be counterintuitive to expect that a VB.NET application would be able to access any kind of SQL Server data without having some kind of SQL Server host component (Express or otherwise) installed. But then again, it seems just as counterintuitive that Microsoft would require the download and installation of the new framework as well as a separate database runtime in order for the average user to run an application with accesses a local SQL Server Express database.To me, it runs contrary to the whole concept of XCopy deployment to require more than just the application's files and .NET Framework for an application to run properly. But nothing I've read so far explicitly indicates that a user would require anything more than the app files and the framework to run an application which accesses SQL Server Express data. But...I can't get any VB Express applications which uses a SQL Server Express databases to run on any machine that doesn't have SQL Server Express installed.What am I missing?(Apologies if this isn't the right group to post this in.
View 3 RepliesI have compiled my app to x86 so that it will run in a 64 bit processor, the issue I am facing right now is that when I install the app in under application folder I am not able to edit the config file which is in the same folder of the exe. how to give admin previlages to the application ?
PS: the app runs fine when installed in a different folder other than applicaitonfolder
I have decided to try and engage creating my first app with a database. I have run through all the VB Express 2010 default tutorials and feel confident to move up one notch.My application on has two users and we do not have a server, just a file sharing setup which works okay if youre using MS Access DB. I have also constructed the app with a Service based DB attached to the project (VB Express 2010)I have spent a week trying to research this on Google but cannot find any specific answers to my questions.So, how do I setup the app prior to publishing so that I can install the app on both desktops and have SQL server installed on only one of the desktops with the DB residing on that?
View 5 RepliesI am basically an EAI consultant and for my work I took an initiative to develop a windows based GUI whose functionality would be to simply execute a couple of Oracle SELECT queries and display the results in the form. I took the help of my friend who is a VB.NET expert and he was kind enough to develop the complete code for me within a day (He isn't available now). The application did work fine and we tried to package into an MSI using the Deployment & Packaging Project option. Now when I installed the application on a different computer, it throws OraOps10.dll not found ! I also tried the Setup Wizard from the same Deployment & Packaging Project option but it results in the same error.
Please note the following:
-> We used .NET 1.1 and the backend database is Oracle 10g.
-> We downloaded the Oracle Data Access components for .NET from Oracle's website. The DLL file in the error message actually came with this installation.
When I am packaging the solution, I expected all the dependencies including this OraOps10.dll should have also been packaged. What could go wrong here? I don't think I can request my customer to install the Oracle Data Access components for .NET, in this case we don't even need a packaging feature. I would be grateful to you guys if this silly issue is fixed very soon.
