Deploy A VB2010 Programme That Uses The 2010 Access Database Engine?
Nov 3, 2010
I am trying to deploy a VB2010 programme that uses the 2010 Access Database Engine. The programme falls over when starting, with an error trying to access the Database. If I Install the programme on a machine that has Office 2003 installed - still installing the 2010 Database Engine - then it runs OK.Does the Database Engine work?

just if you are using Microsoft Access Data Connectivity Components 2010 in your application to read data from mdb access files, you might get unexpected exceptions and your application will crash! To reproduce this behavior the best way is to run my sample application which will allow you to see the bug directly in no time. This behavior may occur at any time, any where, but I found if you use Application.DoEvents, you increase the chance to run your application to crash. To reproduce ::
1. You should not have any Office version installed on your system (I am using Windows 7 x64).
2. install the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 x86 (or x64 and you'll have to set your project to x64).[URL]
3. Download and run my sample application in VB.NT 2010, and press the button, you will get it [URL]Where is Microsoft going, do you think?Should I hope to receive an official response?

I have a vb.net 2005 application that connects to an access database. I use Access Database Engine 2007 to connect to to this database.
Everything worked fine until i install MS Office 2010. After this, the application started to crash, returning the error 'application has stopped working'.
I've a Windows Seven Enterprise SP1 32bits.
When i debug the application, visual studio also crashes. I get the following error, closing an OleDbConnection: 'vshost.exe stopped working'.
I decided to run some tests. I installed my application on 2 virtual machines: a windows xp sp3 and a windows 7. When i installed ACE 2007 everything worked fine, but when i installed ACE 2010, thats when the problems began. This behavior ocurred on both machines.

I am writing an app in VB2010. My code parses a text file, assigns data to variables My??, and then attempts to store this data in an access 2010 (actually access 2007 format) table. Yet, whenever my code gets to MyRow.Item("Artist") = MyArtist I get an error 5 'Artist' does not belong to Table MyTable, but the field/column does exist in the table as do all the others.
01Dim tbl As DataTable = New DataTable(MyTable)
02tbl.Rows.Add()
03Dim lastRow As Integer = tbl.Rows.Count - 1

Basically, I want to design a strategy game, where most of the game will be spent in menu areas and making "decisions" (like a Tycoon style game), however, there will still be some graphics, and I would prefer 3D, but if not possible, can resort to 2D. The graphics aren't user controlled, but the moving objects will be the result of the "decisions" the players make.
I really just want to write it once, and have it run on the following Platforms:
Windows Desktop
iOS (iPhone, iPod, iPad)
Android Phones (not strictly required)
(any other platforms would just be a bonus, but at the absolute minimum, all i really want is Windows Desktop and iOS [iPhone, iPod, iPad]).
Now, I don't want to learn objective-c or any other languages which i may have no use for in the future, I really just want to be able to program in Visual Studio (VB.Net or C#, since I can convert from vb.net to c# I will just be writing it in vb.net).
Is it possible to write in vb.net/c# and deploy to all these platforms? I heard of MonoTouch, so i can convert from vb to c# but is this seemless or difficult to do? Do I have to learn and write in another language in order to make tweaks to make it work on the iPhone or Android? So, with MonoTouch, can I still use XNA or is there a different engine that I need to learn/use with Visual Studio?
Alternatively, if I cannot do this all in VB.NET or Visual Studio, what programming language and/or graphics engine should I learn in order to be able to write once and deploy everywhere that is relevant? (So, not fussed about Linux, Mac's or other less used OS's).
Right now, I haven't learnt XNA but am wondering if I should or need to, or if i should learn another engine & language. Basically, I don't really know what I need to learn/know in order to be able to write once and deploy on Windows Desktop, iOS (iDevice's) and maybe Android. So, my question really is, what do I need to learn in terms of both the programming language and game/graphics engine. Right now I know VB.NET and would prefer to use what I know, but if not possible, then am prepared to learn another language & engine combination to be able to achieve what I want, if this is what I need to do, I would like to know what language & engine I need to learn.

It used to be that the VB6 installation tool automatically recognizes a MS Access dependency and includes the appropriate DLL(s). In VB.Net (2008) I am struggling with the concept of having to have two different installations, one for my tool and one for the 2007 MS Access Database Engine... Can you tell me if there is at least a way of manually including the appropriate Database Engine Files in my application installation?

I am trying to import data from an access database to a access database that my project uses I am having problems with combo box fields in the database with the data. I want to import what is displayed instead of the numerical key value. Example: The combo box displays employee names but the value stored is the key value from the employee table so instead of importing John Doe it imports 2 is there a way to make the actual name instead of the number?

I am developing a software that connects to a database and manipulates product and user data. It works on my computer but it will have to be used by many computers maybe even world wide (who will access the same database) so I have no idea what kind of systems people will have. I still don't know how to ensure that they will be able to connect to the database for I have already had problems in Windows 7 computers which don't have jet oledb.4.0
I am a bit lost here because I don't know if I should first try to do a connect, or if I should first look for a jet oledb engine on the computer where the software is installed. And in case they don't have it installed should I prompt them to install it before running the program further? Or should I pack the engine along with my program? What is the line of thought here to make the program run on (almost) any machine?
