Show Different Window On First Startup?
Jan 18, 2011
How can I show a Window on the first startup of the application that isn't the main form?I just want to show a window on the first startup with a textbox and a submit button. To get to the main form, the user must enter at least 10 characters into that textbox. The startup form is then always just the main form if they get it right. If there isn't 10 characters when submit is pressed, the program exits.
It needs to be reasonably secure, ie not just a text file in the same folder called 'unlocked' or something.Preferably a hidden registry entry to store whether the main form has been unlocked or not.

I can hide my startup form (or make it appear hidden) on startup. I can start my app on windows startup--through registry values--if the user checks a checkbox.
But if the app starts up on windows startup, I want the form to be hidden, so the program can just keep working without bothering anyone. If it starts up because the user started it, I want the form to be showing, because the user probably wants to change some settings or something.

I want to create a button that can hide an exe application. As example: this application will start spider.exe when page loads. I need a button that can hide & show the spider.exe. How can I do it with VB.NET, C#, or Java?
I tried to use:
myProcess.StartInfo.WindowStyle = System.Diagnostics.ProcessWindowStyle.Normal
myProcess.Start()
in page load part, and use
myProcess.StartInfo.WindowStyle = System.Diagnostics.ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden
in button part but it does not work.

to be so simple turns out to have me scratching my head.I have a program that monitors input inside of Quickbooks. When a customer is entered into a sales order my program checks my database for any special information and if it exists, opens a TopMost window to the lower third of the screen with the information showing that is special to that customer. The problem I have is that when the customer is found and the window opens, focus is taken away from Quickbooks and given to my newly opened form. Is there a way to prevent this so that the users input isn't interrupted?
With frmMessage
.Width = Screen.PrimaryScreen.WorkingArea.Width
.TopMost = True

I am writing a simple code that will hide a window, or show a window if it has been hidden. I am using showwindow() to do so.
Private Declare Function ShowWindow Lib "user32.dll" (ByVal hWnd As IntPtr, ByVal nCmdShow As SHOW_WINDOW) As Boolean
<Flags()> Private Enum SHOW_WINDOW As Integer
SW_HIDE = 0[code].....
however the above will not bring/show the window that has been hidden.I assume showwindow works differently than how I expect to make it work? what is the proper way?

I am trying to send a keystroke to a running powerpoint presentation with SendMessage or Postmessage. But I can't get as far as the handle for the presentation.
<DllImport("user32.dll", SetLastError:=True, CharSet:=CharSet.Auto)> _
Private Shared Function FindWindow( _
ByVal lpClassName As String, _
[code]....
As I understand it, you have to use FindWindow to get the application's handle and then FindWindowEx to get the sub-window's handle. The problem is that the line below FAIL returns 0, not a handle.Relevant material / possible answers are given in these sites but in C-type languages and I just can't see how what I'm doing is making the code fail: RE: hide cursor for kiosk application (powerpoint) hide cursor for kiosk application (powerpoint) | keyongtech Passing Event to Other Application.
