IDE :: Set As StartUp Project Menu Option Does Not Exist

Apr 2, 2009

I am learning Visual Basic Express 2008. When I follow step #5 below, the option Set as StartUp Project does not exist. How I can accomplish this. To create a test project for your class. Open the Persons project that you created in the previous lesson. If you did not save it, you will first have to go back to the previous lesson, Adding Methods to a Class, and complete the procedures.

On the File menu, point to Add, and then click New Project.
On the Templates pane in the New Project dialog box, click Windows Forms Application.
In the Name box, type PersonsTest and then click OK.
A new Windows Forms project is added to Solution Explorer, and a new form appears.

In Solution Explorer, select the PersonsTest project, and then on the Project menu, click Set as StartUp Project. In the Solution Explorer, select the PersonsTest project, and then on the Project menu, click Add Reference. The Add Reference dialog box appears.

Click the Projects tab, and then select Persons and click OK.
Double-click the form to open the Code Editor, and then enter the following declaration just under the line Public Class Form1.

Show Different Window On First Startup?

Jan 18, 2011

How can I show a Window on the first startup of the application that isn't the main form?I just want to show a window on the first startup with a textbox and a submit button. To get to the main form, the user must enter at least 10 characters into that textbox. The startup form is then always just the main form if they get it right. If there isn't 10 characters when submit is pressed, the program exits.

It needs to be reasonably secure, ie not just a text file in the same folder called 'unlocked' or something.Preferably a hidden registry entry to store whether the main form has been unlocked or not.

Insert A New Right Click Context Menu Item To The Existing Right Click Context Menu For The Active Window?

May 15, 2010

VB express 2008 .net 3.5 or .net 4.0 VB express 2010?I have written application to convert RTF to HTML. The main Purpose of the application is to copy VS code to the clipboard and covert it then put it back into the clipboard as a HTML Document so that it can be pasted into a HTML document such as Windows Live Mail. I found that code copied and pasted is spaced out in in the wrong positions.

The applications works perfect with no bugs so far. I then asked Myself how to go about doing the copy with the least amount of operator interaction. So I added an Icon to the Icon Tray with a right click menu to use to convert once the Rich Text Format was copied to the clipboard. This works fine except you have Five steps, Select the text, Copy to clipboard, Right Click the icon, Select the Converter and Paste. The normal is three steps.

To this the best solution is to add a context menu item to the active form such as the RTF editor or window. So that when you select the Rich Text to copy and right click on the form to bring up that menu then to Just Select the menu Item such as "Copy RT and Convert" I searched and found about 544000 Items and tried to restrict down to no avail. I read until I finally gave up. I did not find any code examples of this. Almost every thing I found related to the web or some other explicit document like Excel and not to the Various windows that could be active with RT in it.

how do you add a context menu item to the context menu of an active rich text format window such as WordPad or VB?I have test in my application that tests to see if it is a RTF in the clipboard so if it is not the converter does nothing.

Immediate Window Removed From Menu?

Mar 24, 2009

I was having trouble debugging an app because I couldn't invoke the Immediate window. I finally ran across a keyboard shortcut to invoke it (Ctl+Alt+I) so my 'immediate' problem is solved, but now I'm trying to figure out why the Immediate window option doesn't appear on my Debug menu like it does on my co-workers? (The menu-designated shortcut, Ctl+G also doesn't work for me.)If necessary I suppose I can customize my menu to add it back in.

Now the problem; the label will only work if it is clicked because the event handler is click. What I need is this to work automatically at startup. In other words, it should change the label's text to the random string of the text file on startup of the application.

Here is my code.[code..]

Changing Window - Pause/menu Screen ?

Aug 19, 2009

I want to know how to change the form to well another screen. Example:In the popular mcdonalds flash game you can scroll through varius screens such as the restaurant, the farm, etc. You can still play the game though and it's not just a picture. Another example would be a pause/menu screen where you could interact with it. Could I use more than one form but when they play the game they can only see the first one? Then when a certain event happens it changes to the other form or something?

Hide Form On Startup If App Occurred Because Of Windows Startup?

Jun 20, 2010

I can hide my startup form (or make it appear hidden) on startup. I can start my app on windows startup--through registry values--if the user checks a checkbox.

But if the app starts up on windows startup, I want the form to be hidden, so the program can just keep working without bothering anyone. If it starts up because the user started it, I want the form to be showing, because the user probably wants to change some settings or something.

Re-code The Menu Items Cut, Copy, Paste?

Jul 27, 2010

I am developing an MDI Text Editor, well more like upgrading my standard text editor, I am trying to re-code the menu items cut, copy, paste and so on.I have written this sub routine for the "cut" click event handler

Private Sub CutToolStripButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles CutToolStripButton.Click, CutToolStripMenuItem.Click
Form2.RichTextBox1.Cut()
End Sub

Form2 being the form I designed for my child forms, the idea is that the menu control is used by Form1 the parent form, I thought that if the cut menu item looked at the RichTextBox in form2 then it would cut the line of text. it doesn't work?
