Need to create a form and connect the form the database on the click of a button. I have created the forms and data tables (Attached).Also want to know how can i open a form on double clicking an entry in the list box.

I have a project in Visual Studio 2008 and there is a working data connection to a MySQL database. In other words, I can query the db directly from Visual Studio and it will display the results.
I've tried a couple of approaches that I found online for writing a connection string and accessing the db, but no luck yet.
All I'm trying to do is code a button to query the db and then reset the text property of a label/textbox to display the results based upon another label/textbox value.
The pseudo-code I am imagining is something like this:

I have an issue with my access database when creating a simple insert form on visual. When I load the form into the browsers and add the data, it says it has worked but when I look in the database the information has not been added.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to create a form which will be fed by an underlying database to create multiple form fields for each entry in an underlying database table. This is for a program to monitor patients under anesthesia, and prior to surgery, the doctor will choose which monitors they will be using. Then, on the actual monitor screen which will pop up every X minutes, there will be a text box and a check box for each chosen monitor. I am relatively new to VB, so I have tried to illustrate what I am needing but using the logic that I know from my previous life in PHP.
I am using DevExpress's layout control to place the form fields, so that is the code in the middle of the first loop (on_load), and I know that part works, I just need to know how to name the fields and then recover those fields and commit the values to the database. (the text boxes are added to the database, the check boxes are used to determine if an entry is made for that monitor- i.e. at the end of surgery if a monitor is turned off). I know that my syntax for naming the fields is no where close to correct, and it probably would not work in PHP, but I remember doing something like this in a PHP application I built long ago. [Code]

1-database Connection issue : I have made successful connection with ACCESS database from win form (vb.net) but the Connection string's location
Is locally accesse only b/c database is placed in my Drive C:databasedatab.mdb , but i need the location which can be universally accessed like in websites image location like that imgsrc=/images/1.jpg , for this issue i have used dim cn as oledbconnection = ("provider=*****,datasource=|datadirectory|/datab.mdb")
But this connection is not working , i know there is just issue in connection string may im missing any syntax.

It comes to the error when it gets to "ContactsAdapter.Fill(ContactsData)".
I have a piece of code connecting to my database retrieving data. I was just testing the form on another computer and everytime it loads this specific form it closes the form.You can see the lines I had to comment out in order for the form to NOT close on load. Is there something possibly that needs to be installed on this other computer? running XP pro 32 bit.

After running the following sub (VS debugger), I try to detach the database in SSMS, but it shows the connection open still and won't let me detach. I have produced an application which works with datasets but I now wish to provide the user the ability to add and admend records within the database.But i wish to do this in a seperate form.My current dataset instanciates classes onLoad.Should i try passing the Dataset to the new form class? although I have the problem where by when i pass the dataset to the form class using code below i get this problem:[code]Should i just create a create a new connection to the database and produce a new dataset for this form? or is there a better way to do this?
View 2 Repliesi am using access database for my program. now i have connected to the database in MDI form of main exe, and ir also works, user can log in, it gets verified etc etc etc. now here is the problem, when i load a form from dll and try to use any sql query on that form, i get message, "database connection is not opened". so what i did was, i added the connect() (a function i designed to connect to database) in the load part of the dll's form, it made the trick, query's started to run, everything went fine, and when i reload the form i.e after closing the form, i load it again from MDI form, i get error, connection already open..

Due to the fact that I am not too fit in VB, I realized it via a SELECT/CASE method. But now, I would like to allow user to add new STRINGs from the user plane as well (before it was done by myself). I can imagine, I need a database for it. Which one would do the job best? I need only two columns, where my app. can send a coulmn B string back, after it recognized a column A.
