VS 2008 : Database Connection Closes The Form Automatically?
Apr 15, 2010
I have a piece of code connecting to my database retrieving data. I was just testing the form on another computer and everytime it loads this specific form it closes the form. You can see the lines I had to comment out in order for the form to NOT close on load. Is there something possibly that needs to be installed on this other computer? running XP pro 32 bit.
Dim conn As OleDbConnection
Dim comm As OleDbCommand
Dim dr As OleDbDataReader
Dim connectionString As String
After running the following sub (VS debugger), I try to detach the database in SSMS, but it shows the connection open still and won't let me detach. If I close program in debugger, the database shows no connections. I check the dataadapter's connection in the finally block and is shows closed. What gives
Private Function ClientMasterDBFiles(ByVal MasterClientDBConnection As String, ByVal DBName As String) As DataTable
I've searched the forums but never seems to find an answer for this one.. I recently connected to MySQL database server "Automatically" in Visual Studio 2010. I want to know if there's a way to determine the connection state for "Automatically created" connections in Visual Studio 2010. I know how to do it for"programmatically created" connections but just want to know how on the auto-generated ones.
Actually I have a vb.net desktop application, it's quite a large application , POS actually. It was working fine since last few days, when it started acting up. What happening now is, while running smoothly it just closes automatically, no error nothing?!?
Im using the code from [URL] as a starter, most of the code is the same. the chat system works fine but on the client a added a disconnect button "clientSocket.Close()" and as soon as i click that i get errors, on the client, this is the code...
Private Sub getMessage() For infiniteCounter = 1 To 2
[CODE]...
And this line...
serverStream.Read(inStream, 0, buffSize) gives me "Unable to read data from the transport connection: A blocking operation was interrupted by a call to WSACancelBlockingCall."
Now im talking the server, after the client clicks disconnect or closes by task manager, looses connection, etc the server crashes and gives me.
My form closes whenever I insert an object that has a data bound in it. The object I'm trying to insert is a textbox from the data source window (drag n drop). I've checked on the database and that the table has records in it.
Within my Visual Studio 2008 VB.Net project I am opening multiple forms after setting the form (that is opening) to be an mdichild of the main form. This works in really well in most of my forms except one. I am doing the exact same thing for all of them.
Basically I declare the new form:
Using frm As New frmName() With {.variableName = currentVariable} frm.MdiParent = Me.MdiParent frm.openForm() End Using
Within the openForm subroutine in the form code I have:
Public Sub openForm() InitializeDataSources() ... ... Me.Show() End Sub
I know this works because if I remove frm.MdiParent = Me.MdiParent in the main form and change Me.Show() to Me.ShowDialog() in the child form then it works perfectly. Right now (for only one form) it shows the form for only a second (looks like a flicker when staring at the program) and then closes it.
A program I'm developing launches dialog boxes to get information from the user. Right now, the user can still click on and manipulate the main form while the dialog box is open. How can I make the main form inaccessible until the user closes the dialog box?
Dim frm As Form For Each frm In Forms Set frm = Nothing Next frm
The above code is what I used in VB6 to close all forms associated with my programs before my program closed. I have been searching for information on how to make sure all forms are closed when closing a VB2008 program.
I have seen info on using the Project Property Shutdown mode When startup form closes and I currently have this set.
Is this all that is really necessary? Will the garbage disposal close everything else to free up RAM?
Also, if I have several forms open and want to close all from the main form without closing each one individually, what is the best approach? Is there a collection like in VB6, go through the collection, compare it to the name of the main form and close it if it is not the main form?
I'm using a OleDB connection to a access database. I'm entering a row into the database to set some user preferences. What i need to get is get back the row ID of the row I just entered. I'm more familiar with PHP and with PHP I use use this entry
1-database Connection issue : I have made successful connection with ACCESS database from win form (vb.net) but the Connection string's location
Is locally accesse only b/c database is placed in my Drive C:databasedatab.mdb , but i need the location which can be universally accessed like in websites image location like that imgsrc=/images/1.jpg , for this issue i have used dim cn as oledbconnection = ("provider=*****,datasource=|datadirectory|/datab.mdb")
But this connection is not working , i know there is just issue in connection string may im missing any syntax.
2-Login Form : i need easy coding for login form which confirms from access database table "USER" , the username, password field, if both are matched it proceed to the main form where menus and blah blah
Need to create a form and connect the form the database on the click of a button. I have created the forms and data tables (Attached). Also want to know how can i open a form on double clicking an entry in the list box.
I have a small problem with sockets (I'm new to sockets). Below is the code I'm using. The problem is that when the client closes, the server closes aswell. How do I stop it from doing that?
I have started to use VB .net (Visual Studio 2008). I made a small program which starts with form1. This form1 automatically loads form2 and the form1 should close. But when it closes form2 closes as well.
Public Class Form1 Private Sub LC_Load (ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Me.Show() Form2.Show() Me.Close() End Sub End Class
While connecting database (sql server 2000) to a vb.net form I encountered the problem. After adding the server the table was supposed to be drag to the form but there is a problem in drag and the things are not coming out as they should.
I am having and issue with showing my database in another form. It works fine if I have it display in the current form but this is not what I want. I want to connect to the database and then have it show my query in a second form. If you don't get me here's my code.
CODE:
And then the code in form 2 is
CODE:
It comes to the error when it gets to "ContactsAdapter.Fill(ContactsData)".
I have been making a webbrowser for a while now, everything works well, except i am unable to make the 'open in a new window' button work right. So far i have managed to get a new instance of my form to open with the right url, but i am unable to keep that new form open when the orginal parent form closes.
Code:
Private Sub WebBrowser1_NewWindow(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles WebBrowser1.NewWindow e.Cancel = True Dim Href As String
I have one form which stays open, and lots of other forms which can are opened and closed regularly how can i detect that a form has closed on the main form?
Iīm new here, so excuse me if this is the wrong area. I've already read about this in this forum, but it didnīt kill my doubts. I have an form, called AddInstrPadr, wich is created by the MdiParent:
When opening a button and opening a new form as soon as it opens it close for some reason but its not giving any errors as to why its doing this now I've checked the linked linking it to the next form that's fine.
Private Sub PrintPerscription_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Login.con.Open() sql = "SELECT Patient.* FROM Patient where Patient.Wardno = " & Login.WardNo.ToString da = New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter(sql, Login.con) noOfRows = da.Fill(dsPatient, "Patient") [Code] .....
I have the following code so the user must confirm cancel action, however the form closes on both yes/no action.why the form does not remain active when the result = no?
Private Sub btnCancel_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCancel.Click Dim resultDialogue As System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult resultDialogue = MessageBox.Show(
"Do you want to cancel the Add Worker function?", "Confirm Cancel", MessageBoxButtons.YesNo, MessageBoxIcon.Question)
If resultDialogue = Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Yes Then
i'm using exit sub when a certain condition does not meet. but the problem is that the form closes. it should not close the form, instead, it should only exit from a click event. I'm using VB2008Express Edition and MS Access at the back end.[code]
I am new to VB programming, installed VB 2008 express and am working with the examples provided in the "Learn VB" link. When creating a project that contains a form and a connection to a database the "test connection" is successful, but when I start debugging I get the followiong error message:"unable to load DLL 'sqlceme35.dll'
I'm trying to connect to my MySQL database I have online at (mywebsite.com), however it just hangs for about 30 seconds and says and does nothing.
Dim sConnection As String = "Server=mywebsite.com;Database=mydatabase;Uid=myusername;Pwd=mypassword;" Dim scConnection As New SqlConnection(sConnection) Dim scCommand As New SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM mytable WHERE user = @user AND password = @pass", scConnection)
[Code]...
I'm guessing the connection string is wrong, I'm going to try the server as localhost, but in the mean time hopefully someone might see what I might be doing wrong.I'd also like to look into doing it asynchronously, so the UI doesn't freeze,
