After running the following sub (VS debugger), I try to detach the database in SSMS, but it shows the connection open still and won't let me detach. If I close program in debugger, the database shows no connections. I check the dataadapter's connection in the finally block and is shows closed. What gives

ERROR MESSAGE:A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. I want to create a global connection class from Sql server database to vb.net to make it easy in later editing the connection. Could anyone guide me the way to code both creating and calling to individual form?
I've just started ASP.NET for real, and I was wondering if it is possible to use connection strings from Data Sources instead of hard-coding them. I've added my connection in Data Sources and it works, and I can also drag a table to a page in design mode, but I can't figure out how to access it in code. Here's what I get when I drag it in:
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" EmptyDataText="There are no data records to display.">
.....
I have Visual Basic 2010 Express and SQL Server 2008 R2 (not Express) installed on my Windows 7 machine. In Visual Studio, I am attempting to create a Data Connection to a database in SQL server. Server Mgmt Studio is not running. When I attempt to add a connection in Database Explorer, to the AdventureWorks _Data database, I get the message "This file is in use. Enter an new name or close the file that's open in another program." There are no programs running except VB, except maybe for the SQL Server engine running the background. Please note that I can open and access tables within a database in code within Visual Studio, I just can't add a connection in Database Explorer.Am I doing something wrong? I've been very frustrated on this issue for a long time

I am trying to connect a VB.NET 2003 Oledbdataadapter through the wizard to a SQL Server 2005 Database, but i get an error message during the wizard. These are my steps:New Connection, Select provider (Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server), Select Connection:server name, log on: use windows NT integrated security, select database. I do all these steps then click "test connection" and it is fine, but when I click "ok" and error message pops up."Unable to connect to database. I have always developed apps for desktops with an access database on one server for one company or sql server. I had one connection string. Now I am in a situation with multiple clients using my software on their own server. This means different connection strings can anyone suggest an efficient way to do this without changing connection strings for each server throughout the application?
I am trying to build a user control that will do exactly what the SQL 2005 Connect to Server interface do, eventually create a connection string and store in a app.config file. It should allow user to select server type, server name, authentication, user name and password. It should also automatically load available servers and domain login by default.
My application is VB.net 2008 with sql server 2008 , the application is working on the server . whereas in the client i got the error which i attached below Error" A Network - Related or instance - specific error occurred while establishing a connection to sql server. The server was not found or was not accessible.Verify that instance name is correct and that sql server is configured to allow remote connection"
I'm trying to make a connection to SQL Server 2008 express Using this code

I get this error:A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server
I created a vb form application that I want to query a SQL Server database that is hosted through godaddy. Below I have my function that calls the db and also my connection string in my app.config file. When it tries to open the connection I get the following: {"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"}. Do I have to set something on the godaddy end to allow a connection? Or can I only access the database from a web page on my site?
I have herd that a new type (or old type) of connection when the server connects to the client. Is it really possible to do such a thing with mulit-Servers trying to connect to one client. How would I make one like that O.o.
I'm using a OleDB connection to a access database. I'm entering a row into the database to set some user preferences. What i need to get is get back the row ID of the row I just entered. I'm more familiar with PHP and with PHP I use use this entry
I have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.
Error message receiving A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) The project is written in VB.Net 2008. Production server uses SQL 2008, Dev Server uses SQL 2000. The application has been built and published.
Dev Connection String: strCN = "server=S04423711940995.;Initial Catalog=APO_Tax;Integrated Security=True"
The Problem: When I change the connect string from dev back to prod and try to run my app, I get the above error message. If I reboot everything works fine but if I switch the connect string from prod to dev and try to go back to prod, I'm back to the same problem.
This will happen at random, and I can always just catch the error and re-establish connection to the server, but I am confused as to why. When doing lots of inserting into the sql server, I only establish one connection that is public, instead of many little connections. I had my doubts on a public sql connection, but it's been running great, and I've seen no problems until this morning. Again, this random moment I hit an error that stated, sql connection state is broken. Is it bad practice to just accept this error, and when it happens, re-establish the connection?
I am new to VB programming, installed VB 2008 express and am working with the examples provided in the "Learn VB" link. When creating a project that contains a form and a connection to a database the "test connection" is successful, but when I start debugging I get the followiong error message:"unable to load DLL 'sqlceme35.dll'
I'm trying to connect to my MySQL database I have online at (mywebsite.com), however it just hangs for about 30 seconds and says and does nothing.
Dim sConnection As String = "Server=mywebsite.com;Database=mydatabase;Uid=myusername;Pwd=mypassword;" Dim scConnection As New SqlConnection(sConnection) Dim scCommand As New SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM mytable WHERE user = @user AND password = @pass", scConnection)
...
I'm guessing the connection string is wrong, I'm going to try the server as localhost, but in the mean time hopefully someone might see what I might be doing wrong.I'd also like to look into doing it asynchronously, so the UI doesn't freeze,
I created a new Setup project to my original project. In my project's code there is this line: Public DBPath As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.MyDocuments & "Visual Studio 2008ProjectsFUV1FUV1FU.mdb" I just wanted to know, if I am instaling the project in other computer that has no VS in it, with the SETUP project, do I need to change this line? something to do with the Application Folder of the Setup project?
