View 19 RepliesI have this Quiz software that lets you create online multiple choice quizzes which are great for studying (I am in grad school and I'm trying to use everything I can to learn). So the Quiz software is great but it only lets you input questions by hand, one by one. I took a look at the .xml file that the quiz program spits out and came up with the idea to try and make a converter so that I can import many questions at once. I was hoping to try and solve this limitation by doing the following:
Take a .doc that say a tutor gives us with a bunch of practice questions, and then take that into Crimson Editor, and then format it so the question is on line 1, the multiple choice answers are on lines 3,4,5, and 6, (for the next question, the question would be on line 11, and the answers on lines 13, 14, 15, and 16, and so on) and then take that saved .txt file into my program, hit the generate button, and it will spit out the .xml file, and then import that into the quiz software to generate the online quiz.
Here is an attached screenshot of my program layout so far:
I figured out how to open a text file by watching simple youtube tutorials, but I don't know how to have it generate the stuff and have it show up in the bottom text box. I know how to do the coding to convert the txt to proper xml code but I don't know how to be able to save the contents of the bottom text window to an xml file.
So there is a program that is missing some files and written in C++, and it can no longer be compiled. Therefore I am trying to rewrite the program in Visual Basic (C++ is not my preferred language... lol) And I need some help understanding what this code is doing and how I can, in a way, "convert" it to VB language. I looked for a C++ to VB.NET converted but it costs $199 and I actually want to know what the code is doing... Here is part of the code for one of the C++ files (it is part of a program that decodes a file type into a readable format, BTW.):

I want to know what is going on here and how I can recreate this in Visual Basic.
Currently I have to parse each row in the file into a string array segments(). Then I look at the first few elements to see where I am at. E.G.
'Patient Loop
IF Segment(0) = 'NM1' and Segment(1) = 'QC' and current loop = '2000' Then
PatientFName = Segment(2)

How would I rewrite VB6 DefInt A-Z inVB.net?
View 1 RepliesI need a code that rewrite the Realmlist.Wtf file but before that it have to ask for the path to the file. And if its possible it have to remember the path, so if I click it again it automatically change it.
View 9 RepliesI'm new to programming and gave VB.NET a try. I (almost) finished a project (using VB.NET Express 2010) and now I'd like to rewrite it in HTML5 or CSS or Javascript or AJAX, or embedded Flash. Which one would you recommend? Which one as those 5 would be easier to learn for someone with some vb.net experience?

I'm trying to rewrite a C++ library. But I have an issue. I'm not extremely pointer-savvy. In the C++ class there is a std::vector that holds unsigned int pointers (vector<unsigned int*>), and the int pointer just points to an array of integer data.
Here is the C++ code I'm a bit unsure about:
unsigned int* relocation = m_relocations.front();
m_relocations.pop();
unsigned int* reloc = *(unsigned int **)relocation;
Trying to learn subs at the moment.I need to take the following code and rewrite it into subs.
Private Sub btnCompute_Click(...) Handles btnCompute.Click
'Convert feet and inches to centimeters
Dim str As String[code]....
So basically, I now how to do the whole text to speech thing with the following Button
VB
Dim SAPI
SAPI = CreateObject("SAPI.spvoice")
SAPI.Speak(TextBox1.Text)
But is there any way to get it to read other writing systems, such as Korean Is there some sort of software or some addon or something I can install? Perhaps a Korean version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, or something?I'm really at a loss here, and it would help me out a lot if there's a solution out there that someone can think of.
I'm trying to make some friendlyurls in my vb.net (.net 4) project and I'm trying to do it using something I read about global.asax and Application_Beginrequest but I can't get it to compile.

I'm using ASP.NET 4 / VB.NET / IIS to build a web application. Folks will access the web application via a URL like so: [URL] So, for example, here is the urls for Jane Doe, John Doe, and James Doe respectively: [URL] I need to somehow pass them off (no matter what name is entered) to a default.aspx page which then pulls in the name portion of the url and uses it to perform a lookup against the database which contains info. about this particular person and displays a personalized page based on that information.

I have a dbase.txt file with some data in it. i.e -
Institution Course StudentID
XZY ABC 2010-1111111 "the spaces between columns is one tab space"
XYZ ABC 2010-1222222
XYZ ABC 2010-1333333
I want to perform simple SQL like operation - i.e -
SELECT * FROM dbase.txt or
SELECT Institution FROM dbase.txt WHERE StudentID=2010-1111111 and an insert operation like -
INSERT dbase.txt VALUES (XYZ ABC 2010-1444444)
I have written some code which is not even closer to what I mentioned above. My program can read only the whole text file. There is a menu, but not functioning well, as well as my write function which is not working at all.
Below is my code -
Imports System.IO
Module Module1
Sub Main()
Dim intInput As Integer
Console.WriteLine("Main Menu")

Is there a way to print simple text in Courier New? No pictures, no fancy fonts, it's all the same size, and no margins, etc. Is there a VB.NET function for this?
View 3 RepliesIn VB6, when I wanted to print text, I would do something like this...
Dim TextToPrint as string
TextToPrint = LastName(1) & ", " & FirstName(1) & " " & G(1,1) & " " & G(1,2) & " " & G(1,3) & vbCrLf
TextToPrint = LastName(2) & ", " & FirstName(2) & " " & G(2,1) & " " & G(2,2) & " " & G(2,3)
TextToPrint = LastName(3) & ", " & FirstName(3) & " " & G(3,1) & " " & G(3,2) & " " & G(3,3) & vbCrLf
Printer.Print TextToPrint
What's the equivalent in VB 2010?
Getting a vibe that my VB is cursed. All I want to do is load a textfile and have the text appear in TextBox1 But no. I have looked at 3 different tutorials and I have tried copying their code word to word but still!

Error2'daText' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection

I can't understand why this isn't working [code]I've created that text box. And I'm trying to use this event handler, to change the value of the public variable oName. But I'm getting an error saying that Text is not a member of HeroName.[code]

View 1 RepliesAfter rewriting a VB.NET assembly with Mono.Cecil the 'Call Stack' debugging window in Visual Studio 2010 shows the language as C# and not VB.NET. Is it possible configure Mono.Cecil to rewrite an assembly so the debugger recognises the rewritten assembly as VB.NET?The following Mono.Cecil simply reads and saves an assembly without modification. However, the debugger reads the new assembly as C# instead of VB.NET.
Dim readerParameters = New ReaderParameters() With {.ReadSymbols = True}
Dim writerParameters = New WriterParameters() With {.WriteSymbols = True}
[code]....
It is desirable for the rewritten assembly to be VB.NET so the debugging windows 'Local' and 'Immediate Window' are the VB.NET versions rather than the C# versions.
I have a VB.NET web app that is about 2000 lines of code, contains about 20 different subroutines, and about 50 different functions.Is there an easy way to "rewrite" this to take advantage of classes and objects?
View 5 RepliesI got that little function(I changed the name of variables)
Private Function everythingLinked(ByRef myClass As cls, ByVal found As Boolean) As Boolean
If Not found AndAlso myClass.checked = False Then
myClass.checked = True
[code]....
I want to rewrite it so it would only be loop and no recursion and I'm currently lost?I'm passing a class to this function(with a starting value for found as false) to know if it is linked to the middle of the tree. The class got an array with a maximum of 4 link to other class and it can be circular(this is why I have a checked_link boolean).It does the recursion until there is no more link(return false) to check or until it find the middle link(return true).
edit?for an example, this
in pos 0 got link with 1
in pos 0 got link with 6
in pos 1 got link with 0
[code]....
middlepoint would be pos 15 the code above can prove that every position can be linked with the middlepoint so initial arg would be
everythingLinked(random pos, false)
and in this case it would be always true
So ive looked everywhere but every example i find doesnt work on visual studio 05 and doesnt convert properly. I simply want to send info from one computer to another through direct connection. if anyone could point me in the right direction it would really be helpful. most stuff i find seems to be more complicated than what im looking for.
then just one other question. both computers will be going through a router. as long as i have the port im using forwarded on the hosts side, that shouldnt be a problem, right?
What is the easiest way to implement a simple text editor w/in a RichTextBox? For example, one similar to what I'm using here to enter this text (i.e., having a bold, italic, underline, redo/undo, bullet, number, and hyperlink buttons).
View 11 RepliesIf
strOperand = "/" Then
intLast = intFirst / Val(
Me.TextBox1.Text)
I'm not getting a remainder like I would have hoped. I'm new and I'm sorry for the lack of intelligence on the subject. To my understanding the Val( function will convert the string to a number, but when I divide it gives me a single number instead of an integer.
I have absolutely zero coding experience and my background is non-IT. I'm however trying toy friend who also shares the same non-coding skillset as mine her automate some of her work but building a simple form that takes a bunch of input (drop down, check boxes, radio buttons, rich text boxes etc) and outputs it to the a word or rtf file. Is this possible?
View 14 Repliesafter searching for around a half hour or so, I found that the regularexpression API could do what I need.Basically, I needed to only allow letters, numbers, and symbols in my textbox. The problem was, I could stick alt codes in there, even with a keycode case check
View 2 RepliesI have a long string containing a bibliography, alternating between lines of paper-title/comma-separated-author-list, like the following:
Learning Programs: A Bayesian Approach
-P. Liang, M. Jordan, D. Klein
-Variational methods for a Dirichelet process
-D. Blei, M. Jordan
What I want is a list of unique authors (alphabetized by last name) and counts. In the above example it would be:
D. Blei (1)
M. Jordan (2)
D. Klein (1)
P. Liang (1)
