I can't understand why this isn't working [code]I've created that text box. And I'm trying to use this event handler, to change the value of the public variable oName. But I'm getting an error saying that Text is not a member of HeroName.[code]
Yup,not PHP but it's the same for readability)As you may imagine I want to make a simple text based rpg game, but that's not an important fact. The buttons btn1 to btn3 are already created at the designer, and there are going to be other procedures which will assign values to their text property according to the game context (main menu, combat, shopping, training, etc.) you're at.Ok, so what I want to do with that procedure I pasted is to parse the text of ANY of those buttons when I click them, and according to its value select a case which will trigger another appropriate procedure (now there are only msgboxes as placeholders for testing only). My problem is that I dont know how to refer to the originating class of the handled event! I mean, let's say I click btn2. I'll want to immediately get the text property of that button only and use it as the value for the select case tree. I suppose I need to put something at that ?I wrote there, but I don't have any idea. The first time I was so naive to put me.text in there, and of course it returned the form name. Is there's something to do this thing...? I thought at first it would be a very simple task, but I'm going nuts searching for a solution so it's like if it was not possible, but I find hard to believe that, because this would be very useful, right? By the way, what I want to achieve is not needing to make a separate procedure for each button and to avoid as well the need to move any game option to another procedure if later on I want to rearrange the menus, because I expect the game to have more than three buttons actually.
Im learning Visual Basic 2010 on my programming class and we reached the part of file handling. Here i tried to make a simple program that can create a text file with the content of what i type on the textbox, basically i create the file if it doesn't exist, and if it already exists i append the content to it. Once the file is saved i can read it using the "Open" button. Unfortunataly, whenever i try to create the file, the compiler gives me an error saying that it cannot modify a closed file, although i've followed up the execution instruction by instruction and i can't find the error.
Imports System.IO Public Class Form1 Dim body As String
Basically i have one TabControl with a form and 2 browsers within one form I have ProBlem To call the dynamic browser to navigate with dynamic Textbox.text
OK, I'm trying to display tooltip text for a dynamic edit box. Well, at least I'm trying to.
On my form, I've got a tool tip control which I've conveniently named ToolTip. My edit box displays OK. But, what I want to do is when the user hovers their mouse over the text box, I want the tool tip to display some text.
I think there are two problems that I'm having. I'm not convinced that I'm properly addressing a dynamic text box name. Ideally, I would want to be able to refer to the text box (but using a dynamic variable that will contain the prefix of the name). To hardcode, I would want to be able to achieve (not in this example but in theory): ABCDEFGt_0300.Text = "hello"
Dim controllerName as string = "ABCDEFG" Dim t_0300 As New TextBox() Me.Controls.Add(t_0300)
I have this Quiz software that lets you create online multiple choice quizzes which are great for studying (I am in grad school and I'm trying to use everything I can to learn). So the Quiz software is great but it only lets you input questions by hand, one by one. I took a look at the .xml file that the quiz program spits out and came up with the idea to try and make a converter so that I can import many questions at once. I was hoping to try and solve this limitation by doing the following:
Take a .doc that say a tutor gives us with a bunch of practice questions, and then take that into Crimson Editor, and then format it so the question is on line 1, the multiple choice answers are on lines 3,4,5, and 6, (for the next question, the question would be on line 11, and the answers on lines 13, 14, 15, and 16, and so on) and then take that saved .txt file into my program, hit the generate button, and it will spit out the .xml file, and then import that into the quiz software to generate the online quiz.
Here is an attached screenshot of my program layout so far:
I figured out how to open a text file by watching simple youtube tutorials, but I don't know how to have it generate the stuff and have it show up in the bottom text box. I know how to do the coding to convert the txt to proper xml code but I don't know how to be able to save the contents of the bottom text window to an xml file.
basically the user enters phrases into the textboxes, and i use <TAG> in the text so that every time button is clicked the selected text is rewritten including a phrase from the textbox.
So basically, I now how to do the whole text to speech thing with the following Button
VB Dim SAPI SAPI = CreateObject("SAPI.spvoice") SAPI.Speak(TextBox1.Text)
But is there any way to get it to read other writing systems, such as Korean Is there some sort of software or some addon or something I can install? Perhaps a Korean version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, or something?I'm really at a loss here, and it would help me out a lot if there's a solution out there that someone can think of.
I have a dbase.txt file with some data in it. i.e -
Institution Course StudentID XZY ABC 2010-1111111 "the spaces between columns is one tab space" XYZ ABC 2010-1222222 XYZ ABC 2010-1333333
I want to perform simple SQL like operation - i.e - SELECT * FROM dbase.txt or SELECT Institution FROM dbase.txt WHERE StudentID=2010-1111111 and an insert operation like - INSERT dbase.txt VALUES (XYZ ABC 2010-1444444)
I have written some code which is not even closer to what I mentioned above. My program can read only the whole text file. There is a menu, but not functioning well, as well as my write function which is not working at all.
Below is my code - Imports System.IO Module Module1 Sub Main() Dim intInput As Integer Console.WriteLine("Main Menu") [Code] .....
Is there a way to print simple text in Courier New? No pictures, no fancy fonts, it's all the same size, and no margins, etc. Is there a VB.NET function for this?
Getting a vibe that my VB is cursed. All I want to do is load a textfile and have the text appear in TextBox1 But no. I have looked at 3 different tutorials and I have tried copying their code word to word but still!
Public Class Form1
Private Sub ImportToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ImportToolStripMenuItem.Click
[CODE]...
And it gives me the following errors:
Error1Character is not valid.C:\Users\Saurabh Sharma\AppData\Local\Temporary Projects\WindowsApplication1\Form1.vb1067WindowsApplication1 Error2'daText' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection
So ive looked everywhere but every example i find doesnt work on visual studio 05 and doesnt convert properly. I simply want to send info from one computer to another through direct connection. if anyone could point me in the right direction it would really be helpful. most stuff i find seems to be more complicated than what im looking for.
then just one other question. both computers will be going through a router. as long as i have the port im using forwarded on the hosts side, that shouldnt be a problem, right?
What is the easiest way to implement a simple text editor w/in a RichTextBox? For example, one similar to what I'm using here to enter this text (i.e., having a bold, italic, underline, redo/undo, bullet, number, and hyperlink buttons).
If strOperand = "/" Then intLast = intFirst / Val( Me.TextBox1.Text)
I'm not getting a remainder like I would have hoped. I'm new and I'm sorry for the lack of intelligence on the subject. To my understanding the Val( function will convert the string to a number, but when I divide it gives me a single number instead of an integer.
I have absolutely zero coding experience and my background is non-IT. I'm however trying toy friend who also shares the same non-coding skillset as mine her automate some of her work but building a simple form that takes a bunch of input (drop down, check boxes, radio buttons, rich text boxes etc) and outputs it to the a word or rtf file. Is this possible?
after searching for around a half hour or so, I found that the regularexpression API could do what I need.Basically, I needed to only allow letters, numbers, and symbols in my textbox. The problem was, I could stick alt codes in there, even with a keycode case check
I am trying to use filestream and streamwriter / streamreader to have a simple text box where the text entered is written to a text file, and then a button can be clicked to read the file and present the text back to the textbox. It works, but the problem I'm having is that if i change the text to something smaller in length (less text) than what is currently in the file, then press the button to read the file, it still contains some of the old text that was previously in the file.
Dim strmReadFile As New FileStream(txtPath.Text, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.Read) Dim readHandle As New StreamReader(strmReadFile) 'read the entire text, and set it to a string Dim streamFileContents As String = readHandle.ReadToEnd()
I'm making a simple HEX Editor with VB 2010. As a result I am trying to automatically leave a DataGridView cell after entering two characters and move onto the next cell
I am trying to create a simple browser that will be mainly for personal use. I followed a tutorial to create the actual browser; the address bar and the Go button and now I need to create the Home button, Back and Forward button. If I can find the source code for it, I am going to implement it into my sample browser and perhaps?
I've been trying to do this for a while now. What I intend to do is that when I load a webpage in a class, i raise event to my form that the data is recieved.
How would I implement a simple low pass filter in VB.NET? I have a byte array of 8-bit sound values sampled at 44.1 KHz and I would like to apply a crude and simple low pass filter that starts to roll off around 2.5 KHz. Nothing fancy - I'm not expecting lots of dBs per octave, just something to slightly reduce unwanted HF components. When I Google this all I seem to find are complex FFTs and other functions derived from electronics design packages that are way beyond my math to have any chance of adapting them for VB.NET.
I have tried some very crude averaging: take sample 0 and sample 2, average them and put the result in sample 1. It sort of works but is probably a bit too crude.
i'm trying to write a basic code to check a single word in a textbox against a text document, but i have no idea how to handle outside files (in this case the text document) also i would like to have an "add" option that adds the input from the textbox into the .txt file..What is the code for the relationship to the .txt file and how should i declare the variables relating to it?
I would like to develop a very simple question-answer program whereby there is a user form with a label which contains the question, a text box where the user enters the answer and a button that the user clicks to change to the next question. This should be rather simple but I would like to have about 500 questions in the end (will be slowly adding more questions).
I am using RDLC and i want to add dynamic text in header as well as in footer and some images in to the header but i cant understand how to add it in same rdlc. i can add static text in header as well as footer and when i add dynamic text in header it will be displayed in the first page only(after saving report in PDF format) but i cant get same text in next continuing pages
My program populates a drop-down menu with items dynamically at runtime. The items listed are the currently running windows and applications seen in the Windows taskbar. I was wondering if there was a way to retrieve the text of a selected menu item during runtime and use it to set focus to that application or window (which is the text of the selected menu item). I have looked at using the AppActive function to achieve this. I just don't know how to retrieve the text of the dynamically created menu items. Please keep in mind that I am an amateur coder so my code might look stupid. I have tried the following code block with no success:
Private Sub AppActive(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles CurrentlyOpenedWindowsToolStripMenuItem.DropDownItemClicked AppActivate((Me.CurrentlyOpenedWindowsToolStripMenuItem.DropDown.Items.Item(Text.ToString))) End Sub Should I be using the SetForeGroundWindow API instead?
I am working on a project where I need to create dynamicly created text boxes (which works fine) and then save the values from those text boxes to a txt file.Essentially how the form works is their are a few static text boxes the user fills out and then presses a button to create a row of 7 other text boxes and they click the button for however many rows they need.Again this part work just fine, but its when I get to trying to save the values in those boxes that I run into trouble.I'm fairly new to vb.net and currently I only know how to save the static boxes using the WriteLine function, which unfortunetely doesn't work for the dynamic ones.
