Sorting Needed After Reading Values From Several Files

I am still trying to accomplish a tiny flatfile based database. So far everything works fine except for the fact that 'data records' are not sorted alphabetically. My 'data records' are saved in files and their filenames are used as ID. Now all the data are stored iin the files, so, my application reads out the values and adds them to the 'database'. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any way to sort this added data alphabetically by name - everything else works perfectly and I am almost finished, except for the sorting.

Program : my game is a frogger port, you make the frog cross the road until you run out of lives. When you die, you are asked to enter your name and the name is appended to the end of file called names.txt, the final score is appended to the end of a file called scores.txt.Using the System.IO functions, i read the contents of each text file, and load the contents into two separate strings (one for names, one for scores. These two long strings are then broken down using Split() command, transferring the pieces into an array. (again 2 arrays - one for names, one for scores). The contents of both arrays are then loaded into 2 listboxes, 1 for scores, 1 for names.
Problem: i can sucessfully load the contents of both files, and display them side by side - but i want to re-arrange the scores so that they are in descending order. While doing this, i need to make sure that the player name matches up with the score - so the order of the names being displayed would have to be changed aswell. After spending many, many hours trying to do it myself i have had to give up - i'm clueless. My first issue is converting the score array into integers so that the array could be sorted, the second problem is then sorting the names so that the scores and names match up.

If I delete the top row of my datagrid, or load a page without any data in the datagrid, I get a NullRefrenceException error. "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."suggest a way for it to only run the default values needed sub if a row exists in my datagrid, else ignore it?

I've reached the end of my project but I have several unused and not needed .xsd files from trial and error of linking my program to a database. I want to clean up a bit and get rid of them while keeping only the essential files attached to this program. I tried deleting the .xsd files but it seems too ingrained into the program to the point where the program has several errors and just breaks. I have to manually restore the files from the Recycle Bin to get the program to start working again.
What are other solutions to get these files out of the project? I thought about clicking "Exclude From Project" but am afraid of the consequences. I figured I'd check with someone here before taking action.

I am working on an existing vb#.net 2008 windows form application that has a large number of project files in one solution. This solution can be executed many ways depending upon what the startup project is. However there is one project file that is generally the main 'startup project'. This application also has no setup and deployment currently.
What I am trying to do is to determine what exes, dll's, config files are needed to be combined together so I can deploy them? Is there certain directory paths I can use to determine what files I need? Is there some kind of a way I can test the combined files to determine what files work together so I can deploy them?

I was trying to use the sample code at [URL]4 and am having the problem.I can't seem to create the file "test data.csv". When I insert a MessageBox before System.IO.File.WriteAllText line, the MessageBox appears when I run the program. When I place a MessageBox after that line and run, the MessageBox does not appear. Additionally, I cannot locate the file on my C drive.

How can I use VB.net to efficiently read a large .CSV file, store the records (rows) in a table (an Object or an Array), and then sort them using multiple keys? (e.g. sort by Last Name and First Name) After some additional processing, the output will be written to another .CSV file.

Okay so I am very new to visual basic I am currently using VB 2010 I know that this is not the correct forum but I figured it was the closest to it since there is no VB 2010.Anyways I am making a program for my Dad's company that can keep track of inventory so I need to store the info in a .txt and load it up etc. I currently am using a stream writer to write to the text and I got that down pat I am just having troubles loading it back up and putting the info in specific text boxes aka sorting or parsing? the information. I have looked at several tutorials and the problem is that I just simply don't know what I am looking at I've been tinkering with it for a couple hours now with no luck so I hope you guys could help me out .
Here is my current code. It is kind of useless because I have tried so many methods I thought maybe I could use a ReadAll function have it go to a string and parse from there hoping it would have been easier but it has not worked out for me so far.

I have a spreadsheet in .XLS format that contains more than 60,000 rows with 12 columns per row. The first column contains the person's name (Last First Middle), which needs to be split into three columns by pushing columns 2 - 12 over into 4 - 14 and making 1, 2, and 3 the Last, First, and Middle Name columns. Then the file needs to be sorted by those three name fields and match-merged against the results of a SQL query (4,000+ records), which is being generated within the VB.net program.
Using VB.net, I can read the .XLS file, parse out the Name, and save the 14 columns into a 2-dimensional Object array. But I can't figure out how to sort it because 'Array.Sort(spreadsheet_table)' will only work on a 1-dimensional table. Maybe I shouldn't be using an Object, but I'm inexperienced enough that I couldn't get DataTable to work.
I'm writing the program as a "Console Application" using Visual Basic (VB.net) 2008 Express Edition in a Windows XP SP3 environment. The following is an example of the input data:

I have a txt file, that i want to read into my program. The problem is this:The textfile is a stats file for a game and looks like this:

The main thing i want to do is sort these things out and then add to mysql database table that would have these columns:

So what i wanna do is splitting this textfile data up and then adding everything to a mysql table.

I have a dictionary object (let's call it _do) I am using to cache some values for use in a multi-threaded program. I have a single controlling parent thread, with a timer function _doTimer() which can kick off child threads with a new instance of class MyThreadObject in each. My parent thread has _do as a property and with each time _doTimer() gets called, it may or may not repopulate _do depending on cacheflag settings. I pass a reference to _do to each instance of MyThreadObject and those threads at some point read the values of _do but DO NOT write to it.
What I want is to ensure that the child threads do not try and read _do whilst the parent thread is writing to it. Same thing but very slightly different -> I also don't want the parent thread to write to _do whilst the child threads are reading from it. However there is no problem with 1 child thread reading the values of _do at the same time as another child thread is reading the values - so ideally I do not want each child thread to completely lock out read access, only locking out Write access.. I have managed to access and read a specific file line by line. If I wanted to split information by a comma or space and then sort alphabetically or numerically, how would I go about this procedure? Would I create a loop within the reading loop to parse the information?

I know similiar question have been asked but they are a little different so here I go. Basically I have a game in which the user enters their name and they get a score. This name and score then get recorded when they end the game as follows:

What I then need to do is sort these values in the text file from largest to smallest (based on the number not the name but I still want the name to be assosiated with that score) so I can have the top 10 scores appear in a hall of fame type thing.

I am using VB.Net 2008 application program. I am using DataGridView, where column types DataGridView TextBoxColumn. I have 3 fields. 1 field values are numeric, 1 field values are string and 1 field values are decimal. When I try to sort the string value column, it sorts correctly. But when i try to sort the numeric value column, it sorts as if its string value.

sorting list of files in a folder. Below is a snipet of code from a program. The logic is dependant on the files coming in in alphapetical order. I did post about this earlier but I got pulled away and did not get a chance to follow the thread all the way through. The code is complete and it works. However I know it is not guarenteed to pull in alphabetical order so as my final step I wanted to sort the list of files. I thoughr using the array.sort command might work but I am not sure how to use it.

Just sorting a value and displaying them with original values. Procedure is displaying the sorted values in msgbox but in place of the original values, it displays the original values again.

I have a problem with the auto-complete behaviour of comboboxes in VB.NET (with the .NET framework 2.0).I am using a combobox to type in numeric values, and its DropDown list to suggest possible numeric values. This list is sorted in ascending order, for example {"10","92", "9000", "9001"}.The combobox properties are set as follow:
AutoCompleteMode: SuggestAppend
AutoCompleteSource: ListItems
DropDownStyle: DropDown
Sorted: False
The DropDown list is simply filled like this:
myCombobox.Items.Add("10")
myCombobox.Items.Add("92")
myCombobox.Items.Add("9000")
myCombobox.Items.Add("9001")
When I don't type anything, the order of values of the DropDown list is correct, in original/ascending order. However, when I start typing something, the suggested values in the DropDown list get sorted (alphanumerically): if I type "9", the list of suggestions becomes {"9000", "9001", "92"}.I would like to prevent this behaviour to get the values of the list in the original/ascending order. I can't figure out how...A possible work-around would be to pad with zeroes the values in the list, e.g. {"0010", "0092", "9000", "9001"} but I would like to avoid this.

how to sort the group of files in the directory using Hashtable by values?
i'll have more than 500 no of files in the below format:
prod_orders_XXX_<TimeStamp>.dat
XXX = symbol of the product and the length may varies.
<TimeStamp> = date and time
Multiple files for the same XXX are possible with different time stamps.
Here are some examples:
prod_orders_abc_20122001083000.dat
prod_orders_abc_20122001083111.dat
prod_orders_xyz_20122001093157.dat

I have a Datetimepicker, when i select a date it brings up in a listbox all the files created on that day but in no particular order. I have a problem reading a file with hex values.
The values have this format: (2C 0A 0B 45 32 38)
I�ve tried two different ways to open the file. The first one, is storing in a variable of type string,
Dim srTrad As New System.IO.StreamReader(fichToOpen, System.Text.Encoding.ASCII, True)
sLine = srTrad.ReadLine()
so what I get is �2C0A0B453238�. Then I try to put them in pairs and reading as a HEX value, but I can�t. The only thing I get is the hex value of �2�, �C�, and so on. This is not what I�m looking for.
The second way is storing the values in a variable of type Byte:
Dim srByte As New IO.FileStream(fichToOpen, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)
Dim br As New IO.BinaryReader(srByte)
Dim data As Byte() = br.ReadBytes(CInt(numBytes))
The result here, is pretty the same as before. For the pair �0A� what I get is either (30,41) or (48,65) (hex values or Dec). What I need isn�t to convert a char to its Hex value (I saw several examples for this on this forum). What I need is to know that 0A means 10 (0A is a hex value itself)

I want to read the values of the 8 neighboring cells in an image as shown on the attached file. For example, the green cell is the home cell and it has 8 neighbors (cells from 1 to 8 as seen on the attached image). It will read all 8 neighboring cells then it will move one cell to right (now pixel 4 will be home pixel). Again it will read its neighboring cell values and then it will move to next pixel etc. It will continue till to the end (the last cell or pixel of the image).
