For my programming class we must make a word guessing game with scoring for a project. We aren't required to log top scores or anything like that, but I would like to learn how to for future references. I've looked around and all I've found was ways to log in Excel and SQL servers, which I don't have the ability to do at school.

View 4 RepliesI have a routine whereby kids do some tests and are awarded scores. These scores are put in a ListView with their names. The snag arises when sorting! It's ok in single figures but at 10 and over it is no go! It is only in the first column that the scores are put. I believe the method is in collections and compares - am I right? So how can this be simply done? In all the bits of code I've managed to get hold of I get lots of words underlined in blue and have no idea what the explanations mean. Some such things are, "IComparer".

View 6 RepliesI have multiple file upload boxes on a form in my mvc3 application. Request.Files shows 3 files when I put a break point in the below function and look at it.. Problem is other than coding a counter and using a select case I dont see a way to handle saving each file name to the database column it belongs to... Is there away to assign the variable on the fly I guess you could say So that the foreach loop would drop the file in the correct column. Ie handoutFile1, handoutFile2 , handoutFile3, Etc. As it stands the below will overwrite the filename in handoutfile1 every time the loop is gone through. I thought about throwing a counter in the loop and just put a select case on it to assign the db column based on the counter number. Seems like a cheap work around though. [Code]
View 2 Repliessorting list of files in a folder. Below is a snipet of code from a program. The logic is dependant on the files coming in in alphapetical order. I did post about this earlier but I got pulled away and did not get a chance to follow the thread all the way through. The code is complete and it works. However I know it is not guarenteed to pull in alphabetical order so as my final step I wanted to sort the list of files. I thoughr using the array.sort command might work but I am not sure how to use it.

View 2 RepliesI am still trying to accomplish a tiny flatfile based database. So far everything works fine except for the fact that 'data records' are not sorted alphabetically. My 'data records' are saved in files and their filenames are used as ID. Now all the data are stored iin the files, so, my application reads out the values and adds them to the 'database'. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any way to sort this added data alphabetically by name - everything else works perfectly and I am almost finished, except for the sorting.

I have a datagridview that is bound to a datatable. When the form is displayed, the column headers have no sort glyphs and the columns will not sort.
I don't see a property on the form that controls column sorting - at least not one that's obvious. This is an area of the code that another developer wrote originally, so maybe there's something going on that I'm not aware of.
I am trying to sort around 3 million results that are numbers (int) between 1 and 100. I want to know which number in the record set appears the most often, and continue sorting the results until all the numbers are ranked with the one that is in the set most often at the top and sorted downward. I am not sure what my next step is, please list all the steps you think I should use. Can I insert an Excel table in my program?

The set keeps changing (by adding new files of the same set up to it). I want to get the name of the current last file, for example in the set above it should be D1A2-4.jpg. Program : my game is a frogger port, you make the frog cross the road until you run out of lives. When you die, you are asked to enter your name and the name is appended to the end of file called names.txt, the final score is appended to the end of a file called scores.txt.Using the System.IO functions, i read the contents of each text file, and load the contents into two separate strings (one for names, one for scores. These two long strings are then broken down using Split() command, transferring the pieces into an array. (again 2 arrays - one for names, one for scores). The contents of both arrays are then loaded into 2 listboxes, 1 for scores, 1 for names.
Problem: i can sucessfully load the contents of both files, and display them side by side - but i want to re-arrange the scores so that they are in descending order. While doing this, i need to make sure that the player name matches up with the score - so the order of the names being displayed would have to be changed aswell. After spending many, many hours trying to do it myself i have had to give up - i'm clueless. My first issue is converting the score array into integers so that the array could be sorted, the second problem is then sorting the names so that the scores and names match up.

I have an unbound datagridview that has 2 columns. Both columns contain numeric data only and will only go to 55 in count. How do you sort a Datagridview Column in collating sequence? I basically want to sort from 55 down to 1 and 1 to 55 in their respective numerical order.

I'm trying to make a small app that reads MFT from a NTFS drive and lists deleted files and their names. The code is not ordered since its not finished yet. I made it basing on information a read at ntfs.com and some other examples found on the net. But the problem itself is the following. I have hard disk with to NTFS partitions, the main one having 250 GB and the second one having 1,5 GB. If I execute my code on the smaller drive, (using D as parameter for readfile api), I get the list of all deleted files exactly (I checked it with a recovery file app).
The problem is when I execute it on the other drive (C where Windows is installed, 7 if it matters), the problem is that I cant find any deleted file!!. The code gets all the files from MFT and then saves in a string variable only the deleted ones, I found that after deleting one file, it also disappears from the MFT (at least using my code). So, there may be some other way in which NTFS marks deleted files? As you see in my code, I iterate through the MFT entries and, from those that start with FILE, I take bytes 22 and 23 (0 base) and evaluate, if its value is 0 then its deleted, otherwise, it isn't (its a file or directory I think).
