C# - Sorting An Array Of Folder Names Like Windows Explorer (Numerically And Alphabetically) - .NET
Jun 23, 2010
I'm killing myself and dehydrating trying to get this array to sort.I have an array containing directories generated by;Dim Folders() As String = Directory.GetDirectories(RootPath)
I need them to be sorted so they appear like in windows explorer in win7 / vista. -- numerically and alphabetically by folder names. The folder names contain both letters and numbers, sometimes letters only or numbers only.
I created a sorter that StrCmpLogicalW / shlwapi.dll. unfortunately it causes errors on partial trust environments. I am in a really bad need of a solution that does not use 'shlwapi.dll' or StrCmpLogicalW and works in the same fashion.
Here's the sorter that causes the error.
Public Class nvSorter Implements IComparer(Of String) Declare Unicode Function StrCmpLogicalW Lib "shlwapi.dll" ( _ ByVal s1 As String, _
I would like to have a form application that I can drag n drop the words with their numbers into a Textbox1.text and have the Textbox1.text do the sorting.
This program i am working needs to be sorted alphabetically but right now it just sorts by the length of the names in descending order. i think the problem is my if statement. [Code]
I need to sort the items in a visual basic listbox numerically, that is, I have a collection of numbers I would like to be sorted increasingly.
I tried to simply use the listbox's Sorted property, but found that it treated the numbers as if they were strings, that is, it would look at the first digit, then the second, etc. to determine the order. That meant that 13 would show before 5, for example.
I thought of dumping all the numbers into an array, soring the array, and then pushing them back to the listbox, but, honestly, I don't know how to go about the sorting. I figured the array would be useless, since the listbox already acts as a pseudo array.
I've been searching for days for a solution. I've scoured the internet and other forums and tried so many things at this point that I think my brain may explode.I receive a large XML file from a third party vendor. I have converted the XML file to a a dataset and use the dataset to fill a datagridview with a specific table. I do not have a schema from the vendor and the XML file does not contain any data type information. The datagridview populates fine but all columns are defaulted to type string. This presents a problem when sorting columns that should be numeric - they sort by string comparison instead of logically numeric. I've tried numerous ways to attempt to convert the datatable columns to integer to no avail.
In 2007 I created a program that reads weather data into a listview. When a user clicks on the column header it fires off the column click event handler which calls the Sort Wrapper function. The Sort wrapper will re-order items either in ascending or descending order.
I have never been able to get negative integers to sort properly. I have created a stripped down listview program with a few numbers in the grid for testing. (see attached program zip file). When you run the program, click on the column header that says "Val" and you will see right away that the numbers do not sort correctly.
I have a list of strings lets say the items are like this: item_1 item_2 item_4 item_10 item_8 item_11
If I do list.sort() I get the following item_1 item_10 item_11 item_2 item_4 item_8 Somehow I need to get these in order numerically but I am dealing with strings not numbers.
I've got three arraylists of strings, and the "091: " part of the string is not part in the arraylist, thats added when I display them in the listboxes. So basically, how can I sort a list, and make sure that item nr 98 in english, still equals nr 98 in japanese and kanji?
I am using vb.Net 2005 for creating an application for handling windows explorer. In I have open a folder in windows explorer as a root folder. Currenty I need when I click one Search button. And after this click on All files and foldes. In Lookin combo bydefault set my Root Folder which is I set in windows explorer. For opening windows explorer I use this code.
Dim processClass As ManagementClass = New ManagementClass("Win32_Process") Dim handler As ManagementOperationObserver = New ManagementOperationObserver AddHandler handler.Completed, AddressOf Me.Completed
I have a shell extension made in .NET that creates folders (think of it as a context menu New -> New Folder option clone) and uses a InputBox to input the name of the folder from the user. Instead I want to send the rename command on the folder to the already open Windows Explorer window. It should be just like how Explorer lets us name a new folder:
On searching, I found this : Windows Explorer Shell Extension: create file and enter "rename" mode. It says to use the IShellView::SelectItem function with the SVSI_EDIT flag. How do I do that with .NET?
i need something simplei tried using webbrowsers to view files, had 5 different browsers in a tabcontrol and it seemed to slow down the pc.. hmmm.. so, maybe the basic vb coding will do..although it was easy w/webbrowsers, just WebBrowser5.Navigate("C:Documents and SettingsOwnerDesktop ru filesemulators") and it was done... anyways,
The application I'm developing does some file management chores, such as renaming and deletion of files. I have noticed that often after a file is deleted via code, it is still shown in Windows Explorer although it doesn't exist anymore. A refresh (F5) solves this, however I wouldn't want end users to have to press F5 every couple of minutes when using the application.
Can a refresh of all open Windows Explorer windows be requested via code? Moreover, can the refresh be requested only for windows displaying a particular location? I've thought of getting all open windows, filtering them and then sending the F5 keystroke, however it sounds a bit like overkill. Any easier way to do it?
I am trying to write a script to set the focus to the folder view in Windows Explorer. Is there some sort of way I can find the folder view pane and set focus to it? A bit like finding a child window and setting focus to it using the Windows API functions.
[Code]....
Now I realise that you can't use the above functions to find parts of Windows but it just gives you the idea. If I could do it with API functions that would be fine otherwise I am a little bit limited because I am using a Visual Basic scripting type engine which I won't bore you with details of.
I have a winform application and this winform application has created few files. I want to implement "find target" function in my application to show those files. Those files located in a same folder. See the picture:Let's say that I have created few files in "C:Test" folder and this folder has this file: "C:TestFile1.txt". How to create "find target" functionality using VB.NET?
I am having a namespace extension implemented, which is visible in "MY Computer". I want to write automated test cases to browse through the same. I am able to open the explorer window till the namespace extension. as - Process.Start("explorer.exe", "shell:::{CLSID of my namespace }")
next I want to search for a particular folder name inside the window opened. For example if i give input as "temp", then my mouse should move to "temp" folder in the namespace explorer window. then I double click on the mouse's current position and enter that folder. next i give input as "doc1.doc", then my mouse should be able to locate & move to "doc1.doc" file. Also getDirectory or GetFile etc APIs won't work because I don't have a standard drive associated with my namespace & don't have a relative path either.
This works fine, unless I have Windows Explorer open and I'm looking at the 'MySubFolder' directory. Then I get an IOException The directory is not empty. - clicking OK dismisses this and then the folder structure is not deleted. Any thoughts on how I can get this to perform correctly (i.e. delete), even when running this code while having the folder struture open in Windows Explorer?
I want to allow a user to click a button that will launch Windows Explorer and go straight to the My Pictures folder when I don't know who the current user is.
I want to make a program that is similar to Windows Explorer. It will have a button that when you click it it opens a FolderBrowserDialog and it will have an area that displays the contents of the selected folder. I want to have a label that displays the current folder path (i.e. 'USERDocuments...') and I also would like a feature to search all files on the computer. Also, is it possible that when I click on a file in the contents of the selected folder it displays its information (i.e. Name, Size, etc.)? And can I also make it so that if you double click on another folder in the current folder's display it opens that folder? And can I have a button to go up one directory?
For my programming class we must make a word guessing game with scoring for a project. We aren't required to log top scores or anything like that, but I would like to learn how to for future references. I've looked around and all I've found was ways to log in Excel and SQL servers, which I don't have the ability to do at school.
I have a routine whereby kids do some tests and are awarded scores. These scores are put in a ListView with their names. The snag arises when sorting! It's ok in single figures but at 10 and over it is no go! It is only in the first column that the scores are put. I believe the method is in collections and compares - am I right? So how can this be simply done? In all the bits of code I've managed to get hold of I get lots of words underlined in blue and have no idea what the explanations mean. Some such things are, "IComparer".
I have problem with Sorting ListBox in Visual Basic 2008. When I load names from some files (file's name is number_name like="156_blabla") and I need sort it by that number
I am trying to create the following program Store in a 1d array a set of 5 place names and in a 2d array the distances between the places. Ensure that the order of the places is the same in both arrays. When the names are places are input the distance between them is displayed. If they are not both in the table a suitable message is displayed
Dim town(1 To 5) As String
Dim Dist(1 To 5, 1 To 5) As Integer
Dim First As Integer
[CODE]......................
I think the best way forward is pass a parameter to the function findnumber.
I'm trying to sort an array based on a structure but whenever I do this, it basically erases all the data in the entire array.I have verified that the array is populated correctly, it is when using array.sort that everything returns blank.
