Enforce Case Sensitivity Of The Names Of Files In A Project?
Dec 14, 2009
Is there a way to enforce case sensitivity in VB.Net file-names?
The primary issue that I am trying to solve is the difference in how Windows doesn't care about the case of a file-name, but other tools, like Subversion, do care about the case of a file-name
how to validate user inputs.. when the user logs in and his/her password is in Uppercase(saved in database) but forgets to type in uppercase. and it would display warning message saying invalid password...
I am doing a search to look for a value that corresponds in my datagridview. But the problem is it is being case sensitive. Is there a way to disable that? The code I am using is below.
I am doing project in vb.net using ms access database I used one query like
Command.CommandText = "Select DISTINCT(*) from CharacterData where Mesg= '" & message & "'"
here it is executed when message variable value is a & also if A So how should i make it to check only proper case sensitiviy in where clause ..I want case sensitive checking of Mesg= '" & message & "'"
I am trying to compare the contents of 2 collections in a unit test in .NET using MSTEST. To make things simple, instead of having to .Sort() and then loop through the collection and compare items one at a time, I've found the new and very cool .Intersect Extension method.
However, now that I have a test which needs to be case-sensitive, it breaks. I've tried sending Intersect's second parameter StringComparer.Ordinal,StringComparer.InvariantCulture, and StringComparer.CurrentCulture... no luck..
I want to select one item in drop down list in ASP.NET written with VB.NET - I have values and texts in listbox like this: Volvo Audi etc... But values coming from other place in upper case... VOLVO, AUDI..
This code: dropdownlist.FindByValue("CAPITAL") Is not working and giving null for Volvo..
I just came across an interesting scenario. I have a class in C#:

As C# is case sensitive, this will treat the two variables A and a as distinct. I want to inherit the above class in my VB code, which is not case sensitive. How will the VB code access the two distinct variables A and a?
If I use code such as NewName = StrConv(OrigName, vbProperCase) to convert names to proper case, i.e. with initial capitals, I get unwanted results with Irish names like the following:
O'neill instead of O'Neill O'grady instead of O'Grady
I have multiple file upload boxes on a form in my mvc3 application. Request.Files shows 3 files when I put a break point in the below function and look at it.. Problem is other than coding a counter and using a select case I dont see a way to handle saving each file name to the database column it belongs to... Is there away to assign the variable on the fly I guess you could say So that the foreach loop would drop the file in the correct column. Ie handoutFile1, handoutFile2 , handoutFile3, Etc. As it stands the below will overwrite the filename in handoutfile1 every time the loop is gone through. I thought about throwing a counter in the loop and just put a select case on it to assign the db column based on the counter number. Seems like a cheap work around though. [Code]
I am used to C like languages such as C#. I added a list box with a list of names. In the code behind I added the below code. When I run the code I am getting the MessageBox but it will state "UserName favorite color is " but does not show the color. I thought it might be misspelled or non-matching names but this is not the issue due to the names being correct.
Public Class Form1
Private Sub lstData_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles lstData.SelectedIndexChanged
I am using a textbox in vb.net but the input should be an hour format for example, "13h30". How can I enfprce this by a user? When he puts the first 2 digits like 13 then automaticly the appl. puts a "h" between?
How might one go about aliasing a type in VB.NET or C# such that when the alias is used as an argument type in a function, accidentally using the not aliased type is an error?
i.e.
Imports AccessSpecifier = System.String Module Accessors Delegate Function IoOper(ByRef strm As System.IO.Stream) As Action

Overall, I'm wanting the IDE to force me to know what I'm doing if I'm throwing Ints around to mean Flags, or States and Strings around to mean Names, Propertys and Records.
I'm working on a project. It is a windows form app which has a webbrowser. The app navigates to a url automatically, checks the url's document, and jumps to another url (depends on the document). It works fine. But, now, the problem is the project needs check many urls, so, I'm trying to make it as a MDI form project. when the start button clicked, it create a control thread, in the thread, it launchs 10 MDI forms (within main form), each form does the work for different urls. once done, then launch the next 10 urls.
It works. However, I noticed that, although 10 MDI forms are open, the navigating part in their webbrowser seems run in sequencial. I thought these 10 MDI forms will load 10 urls at the same time, do the work at the same time, but I found that it seems they do load urls one by one, not at the same time.so, I did some research, it seems webbrowser can only be run STA mode. does it mean I can not use multithread to load different urls at the same time?basically, I want to have a multi tab webbrowser, and navigate to different urls in these tabs at the same time.
I have two projects that contain extension methods. One project is implemented using C# and the other is implemented using VB.NET as there are some things I can do in VB.NET that I can't in C# and I want to leverage those features in my extension methods. How can I name the projects to convey their meaning while at the same time differentiating that they are implemented in different languages? For the C# elitists:One of the features that VB.NET supports that C# doesn't:Doesn't C# Extension Methods allow passing parameters by reference?FYI: This doesn't work for reference types, which is what I'm interested in.
public static void LoadFromXml<T>(this T targetObject, string xml) { targetObject = _Serializer.DeserializeFromXML<T>(xml); }
i have 4 different excel files of different names.each excel file has 8 columns and 15 sheets. All excel files has same columns and same number of sheets (same sheet names and column names)i have to merge these 4 files into one.that file must be identical to the individual files.i.e same column names, and same number of sheets.
I am writing a mini folder compare program to compare files in 2 folders . I have sort of completed writing the application just that i dont know how to code for one particular part which is getting and comparing files in subfolder ( which mean my application doesnt goes into sub folder to get files name only the parent folder )
Private Sub showItems(ByVal gui As ListView, ByVal folder As String) With gui gui.Items.Clear()
Ok I know this question has been asked to death but I still have not seen a good answer. I have created an application in VS2010 using VB.NET. In my application I have an error log that is an XML file located in the Public gstLocalErrorLogLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "ErrorLog"that gets written to in the event of an error so I can trouble shoot application easier. My application also downloads files from our FTP site and puts the files in Public gstLocalDownloadLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "download"So I have files that get read and written to as well and created and deleted all in the Application.StartupPath which is either "c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" or "c:Program Files (x86)(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" depending on 32bit or 64bit Windows 7.
After creating the setup I install it on my test machine that have both Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.Everything in the application works great till I have to write to, delete or creat a file in those directories above. I know it is an access issue and the UAC. This will get installed on numerous systems so the options I have seen to change file or folder permission on the computers manually is not an option. What has to happen is after I install the application it just works like when you install it on XP. Some post have suggested that you us a user with administrator privilages or group which is all fine and dandy but the user I have used to test the application has all of that.
So what I am asking is how do you create an application with VS2010 in VB.NET that after creating a setup package and installing on Windows 7 will just work with out "Access to the path c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File) is denied." If I have to install this on 100 Windows 7 computers it has to be a concreate no manually doing anything just install and work like when we installed on XP.
It's just a small calculator project so it's no big deal, but after I had built the project, I wanted to change the project name and all the file names that had that string in it (and all internal references to that string). I had played with this before and knew that it was asking for trouble but I thought, "What the hell, I'll try it again." feeling a bit brash.
Well, everything works fine in debug mode, but there is this DOS window that pops up just before the main form does, and it doesn't go away for the entire debugging session. I think I see that window pop up on all other projects too (if the main form doesn't cover it up completely), but normally, it's only there for a split second.
Each time it runs, a program of mine creates an Excel document and names it using the current date ("Alerts from 29062011.xlsx" for example). The program gets run once a day, every day.The users have requested that I have the program delete the previous days Excel file each time it runs so that they don't take up space. I'm unsure how to do this though since, for example, if it is run on the first day of the month it would have to know
I have sets of files with the similar names beginning with the same characters such as: D1A2-1.jpg, D1A2-2.jpg, D1A2-3.jpg, and D1A2-4.jpg. The set keeps changing (by adding new files of the same set up to it). I want to get the name of the current last file, for example in the set above it should be D1A2-4.jpg. How can I do this in VB2005?
I have this code, it lists all the photos in the list box, i want to rename them and remove the spaces in the files names, such as "Photo1.jpg" not "photo 1.jpg"
For my programming class we must make a word guessing game with scoring for a project. We aren't required to log top scores or anything like that, but I would like to learn how to for future references. I've looked around and all I've found was ways to log in Excel and SQL servers, which I don't have the ability to do at school.
I want to see the name of the image files each time imagebox shows an image from imagelist. There's 117 images loaded into imagelist. How can I do it or which object/properties can I use?
