May 13, 2012the form allows the user to type in a word in English and get back its Spanish translation. To accomplish this, you must read a (dictionary) file into a Dictionary (hash table) data structure and search that structure used its properties and methods.

Jan 18, 2012I am writing a program that will display numerous labels in English and Spanish. The problem is I have the formatting correct and labels aligned for English, but when I hit the button for Spanish the labels on the left overlap the labels on the right. I did set the text on the Spanish side to include 10 spaces before the text, which does align it properly, however there has to be a better way to do it. I tried padding the label on the form which works good, but I would like the padding to only take effect when the selected language is Spanish. Once English is selected I would like the formattting to go back to normal.

English IDE Setup Project Installs English .NET Framework Even Though Localization = German?
Apr 30, 2009I'm facing a major problem with a Deployment Project I created to install one of my applications.I am using the ENGLISH IDE of the Visual Studio 2008 - even though my end users will have German environments. This is why I set the
Localization = German
Property in the Deployment Project's Properties. The UI of the generated setup is German, so all's fine there. However, the setup installs the ENGLISH .Net Framework. I have not found any way around this.The problem are at least twofold:
1. An English Framework on a German PC might cause instabilities.
2. It's a big flaw to see UI inconsistencies (i.e. the UI and Setup of the application is German while the NET Framework shows certain elements in English, e.g. the DisplayName property of cultures)how can I get the project to install the localized .NET Framework?
Force Asc To Use English Codepage On Non-english Systems?
Jun 15, 2012I want to simulate a way to "force" the ASC function to use the english codepage, even on a system having the "language for non-unicode" different than English.[code]On a system having "language for non-unicode" set as English, currently the result is 140..On a system having "language for non-unicode" set as Slovakian, currently the result is 79..The twist is I CANNOT user AscW (for reasons I cannot disclose)In the particular example above I would need for the code to always return 140.If there's a way to force the whole program to use the english code page I could work with that as well.[code]

I have tried using My.Settings.Reload() but it does not do anything. What is the best way to set the strings back to its default value that I have set it to? Nov 11, 2010I use the following line of code within a single method to explicitly check and trust an SSL cert from the following host: MyTrustedCompany.com:
ServicePointManager.ServerCertificateValidationCallback = Function(obj As [Object], certificate As X509Certificate, chain As X509Chain, errors As SslPolicyErrors) (certificate.Subject.Contains("CN=MyTrustedCompany.com"))
No problem with the code -> works perfectly 100%.
The problem is, it is too far reaching. I thought its scope would only be within the method I decalred it, but apparently it is a Shared property on the 'ServicePointManager' object, and must then persist for the entire application, which I do not want.
The problem is later I am calling web services of mine, etc and getting the "Could not establish a trust relationship..." exception. This is because in the line of code above I check for the host name of an SSL cert specefic to that method. I quickly tested Returning 'True' from the callback so all certs would be trusted instead of checking for a specefic name (i.e. MyTrustedCompany) and subsiquent requests worked. This is how I know this callback assignment reaches father than that single method. Sure I could extend the callback to include all other certitificate names, but what I would rather do is set the 'ServerCertificateValidationCallback' back to its default behavior. Like the pseudo code below:
ServicePointManager.ServerCertificateValidationCallback = Nothing 'Default checking behavior

Oct 5, 2009when setting a column to identity it will auto increment 1,2,3,4..however if you delete 4 & 5 and then insert another record it will go in as 6.If you do this a lot you end up with huge gaps in the numbers,is there any way to make SQL default back to filling in the gaps and only count higher if there are no gaps?I know I can do it in the application, or even a UDF, I just want to make sure I am not reinventing the wheel?

Dec 6, 2011Here is my case:I have a richtextbox called Rtb1 I have the text property for this control set to "ThreadAmountEdit=[Thread Amount]" This was set through the RichTextBox Tasks function, by clicking the control and selecting the little arrow in the top right corner. In working on my form, I edit the text "[Thread Amount]" of the rich text box to "45". What I need is to be able to reset Rtb1 back to default ("ThreadAmountEdit=[Thread Amount]")on button click.
I've tried: Rtb1.Refresh() which doesn't appear to do anything I've also tried Rtb1.ResetText() which completely clears the textbox.

Jun 7, 2012I'm trying to filter the results of a xml file. One of the fields I've been requested to filter is the attribute price of each node. The problem is the xml is from a spanish source and the prices are with decimal separator being , instead of . and thousands separator is , instead of .I'm trying to get an xml file filtered where only nodes withprices lower than one supplied appear.
The xml structure is:

I've tried to filter using XPath and Linq2Xml. I've come to the conclussion I have to replace , with . and . with , but I get 0 results.With values below 1000 where there is only , I've got it using:
doc.XPathSelectElements(./RoomStays/RoomStay[translate(@Price,',','.')<=256.78])
But when there are prices above 1000 with thousands separator . it doesn't work, so I tried:
doc.XPathSelectElements(./RoomStays/RoomStay[translate(translate(@Price,'.',''),',','.')<=256.78])
But it returns 0 results (I tried to use replace function instead of translate to remove the . characters but I get an exception).

Jul 23, 2009I have a search page with a couple of pulldowns. Dependig on the values of them I show a grid matching the searched criteria, basically a table with links the user can navigate to. My problem comes when the user wants to navigate back. At the moment I have a "Back" button which simply redirects the user to the initial search page. I think it would be a good improvement to have the values of the pulldowns filled in with the values the user selected, this way when he presses the "Back" button he would not have to restart the whole search process again.

When the server application sends 2 messages about 16-31 ms apart, the 1st message is received by the client application with little delay (like 16-32 ms after it was sent). But the 2nd message is received by the client application a lot later (like 200 ms later) than when it was sent.
We already disabled Nagle algorithm (set NoDelay = True) in the socket in both the server and client application.

Jun 17, 2011We are having problems with sending back to back emails on one of our web sites. The site is built with .net framework 2.0.We can send the first email without any problems on every try. But to send a second email you need to wait about 20-30 minutes.the problem.One thing we tried was changing the smtp email server. We tried a third party smtp server but the same problem persisted. So I think the problem is not with the smtp server but with our .net code.

Oct 19, 2009I am developing heavy mathematical engineering windows application in VB.NET (VS2005) with MSAccess Db. This application has resource files in English, Spanish and German Language. I have same setup to run in all these 3environment Windows XPs. In English, calculations are perfect; but in Spanish ',' is treated as '.' and '.' is treated as ',' e.g. 12.24 in EN is '12,24' in Spanish. I somehow managed to do it by manually replacing ',' by '.' and vice versa; but this is now not manageable since program is expading like anything. I saved number in DB while installing. User selects his language and so I check, if its Spanish, I explicitly replace "." in labels and text in TextBox to ",".

It works, But I am not sure how to get it so it search the entire string without having to do 1,2,3,ect.
What would be the best way to search the string for certain letters? I was thinking some type of case or loop but I tried a few different things, but could not get it process correctly. Google, gives me alot of different examples, but I can not get most of them working with my code. The data can contain accented characters from European languages (French, Spanish etc.) but when these occur the display is corrupted. How do I configure VB.NET to handle these characters (I am assuming there is some setting to do this rather than having to write code to process all input)?
