View 1 RepliesI am just wondering if there is any way I could copy a bit of text using whatever application, but having a clipboard application of my own to store all of those on a listbox? So if it possible, how can I catch a value when I the user copies some text? I could make a cool application that would be quite handy... is there any event that could catch the data when something is copied onto the clipboard?
View 14 RepliesThe following is the code i used to get the value from textbox to listbox and store all the listbox values to the access database at the runtime. In the database, i have only one field called num which is been set as a multivalue field using the lookupwizard. But actually what happens is ,no error is occurred, but the value is not updated in the batabase.
vb.net

The form1 has a listbox which contains a list of student names. If i select any one of the student name in the listbox and i click the button, the form3 should be open & listbox in form3 should be loaded with the corresponding scores of the student name that is being selected in listbox of form1.The condition i used here is if the value of textbox in form1 is 1 then the dr(4) value alone should added to the listbox in the form3 and ;likewise it depends on the value in textbox of form1. ...FOR THIS I USED THE BELOW CODE

When i tried to run this code it is showing an error "Index was outside the bounds of the array" on the line that i highlighted in the above code.

I wish to create a visual basic asp.net web application which can store data, entered by the user via a textbox to a database, once the STORE button has been clicked. View 1 RepliesI am using an Access database and vb.net 2010. I have created a table in the database with columns for title, datein, dateout and roomnymber. In vb.net 2010 I made a distinguished title = combobox, datein and dateout = DateTimePicker. When I click on F5, an error occurs: INSERT INTO Syntax Error in statement. Here's my code:
Dim sql As String
sql = "INSERT INTO tcekin(title,firstname,lastname,address,country,company,roomnumber,datein,dateout,rommtype,note)" & "VALUES('" & ComboBox1.Text & _

I created a database (.mdf) file. I added data to it after running the program in debug mode. When I closed it and opened it up again, the data I got was stored and loaded again.I closed my whole Visual Basic Express program. When I opened it up again, all the data had disappeared.
Can you tell me what I am doing wrong with the program? I can't get queries to work either. It worked when I used the NOrthwind dataset this past weekend but it is not working when I use my own or empty dataset.
I am a VB.net beginner. I am doing simple program that has database connection with access 2007 and i want to store the data (whatever i enter in the textbox) to the database.I did the connection as per the instruction in the msdn(i.e;datasource/database/ms access/selecting accdb file/draging and dropping the fields of the table to the form from the datasource window)I want the code to store data from vb 2008 to access 2007.
View 7 RepliesIf you have to store and retrieve data from a database is a string not the most effcient way? What is best?
How does this work in a real world scenario.
For example: I have a customer ie first name and last name and the CustomerID is autoincremented when initially added to the database. Now, the user could lookup and find the customer by their ID but we all know that's not practical. They don't know 231223 is John Adams, they know John Adams or Adams John.
So how do you handle this? Access is the database I am using but I think this would apply to any database.
I want to store date time picker into database .I am using date to search my reservation information and how is the code for search out the information from database.

I have a process that's going to initially generate 3-4 million PDF files, and continue at the rate of 80K/day. They'll be pretty small (50K) each, but what I'm worried about is how to manage the total mass of files I'm generating for easy lookup. Some details:
I'll have some other steps to run once a file have been generated, and there will be a few servers participating, so I'll need to watch for files as they're generated.Once generated, the files will be available though a lookup process I've written. Essentially, I'll need to pull them based on an order number, which is unique per file.At any time, an existing order number may be resubmitted, and the generated file will need to overwrite the original copy.
Originally, I had planned to write these files all to a single directory on a NAS, but I realize this might not be a good idea, since there are millions of them and Windows might not handle a million-file-lookup very gracefully. I'm looking for some advice:
Is a single folder okay? The files will never be listed - they'll only be retrieved using a System.IO.File with a filename I've already determined. If I do a folder, can I watch for new files with a System.IO.DirectoryWatcher, even with that many files, or will it start to become sluggish with that many files?Should they be stored as BLOBs in a SQL Server database instead? Since I'll need to retrieve them by a reference value, maybe this makes more sense.
How do you store data in the access database and also to retrieve it? and also a search engine for the database?

I need a way to store just the time only to my access database. the datetimepicker isn't working because there is no way to have a null date.I found this and it seems to be exactly what I need. When I try to convert it to vb2008 i get a few errors I can't figure out.
View 8 Repliesfor an example I'm making an RPG game for learning purposes and I have several modules, each for storing different data (one for items, one for enemies etc).I'm storing each item or enemy in a structure in the module so it's easy to find and obtain the values and makes it easier to add more when needed. I'm sure there's a easier way because at the moment I'm storing it like this:

As you can see, I have all the weapons(which are in a structure) nested into another structure called "weapons" so it's easier to find.Is there an easier way to store the data and make it still readable, obtainable and easy to add more weapons later on.To display the stats on the currently selected weapon I have to test for which weapon is selected and then several lines of code just to display the stats for that one weapon.
I am trying to store data to access by VB 2008 express. basically, I have 13 check boxes to let the users to choose. when they finish checking the boxes, they will click the button "submit" to submit it. VB will store this as a new row in the database.

View 25 RepliesI am building a program that does inventory control. I have multiple forms connected to same database. One of the forms I have a search function. When I was using the controls at the top of the page, it was working. I added buttons for the controls and now the database wont store anything. I can open the input form and I can add multiple inputs, close the form, open it back up, and nothing left in the database. I have also noticed that my database icon in the data source has a small red X in it. When I click on the icon, it is showing the db as closed. I can refresh it and it opens, until I run the program and it closes.
View 4 RepliesI am storing my connection string in my app.config file. I am using sql server express 2005. The connection string on my dev machine is different from the ones at the clients. so each time I update I open the config file and edit the connection string setting. This is quite a pain.also I have now published my app to an ftp folder so that the clients can get the updates each time I make changes. saves me the hassle of going to them each time i update. so now i need it to be so that I won't have to change the setting all the time.Would the best way be to store the connection string in a settings table in the database?
View 6 Repliesmy application has a data table, one of the column set as decimal type to store number, data is read from a text file and store into the data table, then display in a datagridview, I found when that number is only 1 digit, that cell displays nothing (I think no number is being store in that cell), if I type a 1 digit number into that cell is fine. for example,
1.1 [ok]
12 [ok]
0.15 [ok]
4 [not display]
9 [not display]
-23.8 [ok]
so which data type I should use on this column, in order to display all this possible numbers
