Store Dating In Windows App?

Mar 16, 2009

I'm new to desktop applications. My goal is simple: A user enters in their first name, last name, email address and phone number. They hit submit, it verifies they entered in proper data and then it stores the data into a local db inside VS. I have never used data sets and table adapaters before so I'm having trouble storing the data into the local DB ..

Up Dating Context Menu State. Depending On Listview Chks?

Mar 16, 2010

I'm kicking my self for not being able to resolve this.I have a few items in my context menu thats for my listbox that toggle enable/disable depending on eitheritem is selecteditem is checked.the top 3 items should be enabled only if a item is selected, which works, and the bottom 2 only if an item is checked in the list.(it is a chked list)But what i would really like is that if ONE checkbox is checked then the top three would be disabled. i did try adding a for loop to check for an item is checked but it only half the time worked. (i added the code also)

vb

InputBox Function - Program - Allow User To Input 5 Payrolls For Store 1, Store 2, And Store 3

Mar 22, 2012

I am coding a program that will allow the user to input 5 payrolls for Store 1, Store 2, and Store 3. The total of the 5 payrolls are then added together and shown in the respective Store's labels. A total label is also there to add up all the totals into one number. The numbers in the label must be in currency form. My problem is the numbers don't add correctly when I hit calculate. The first two numbers add together, but then after that the number just seems to subtract a random amount.

So far I have this --

Public Class Form1

Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
Me.Close()
End Sub

C# - Store Db Passwords When Using Windows .NET Or ASP.NET Applications?

Mar 7, 2012

I have a scenario that has been troubling me for years. If you have to connect to a database or other service (like a web service) using a username and password, where would be the safest place to store this information if you are connecting through a .NET assembly? I understand that you would have to encrypt the password, but then you run into a kind of chicken-egg problem -- fine -- you can encrypt it, but then where do you put the key?In .NET, you can't hardcode the password because you can decompile .NET code.

I looked at using assembly based rights with Isolated Storage, but MS recommends against storing unencrypted secret items there because priveledged users can gain access, so again, we are moving the problem from point A to point B. So for examplem, a domain admin with no need to know about the information in a database would be able to get access because of the ability to be an admin on any workstation on the domain. You can encrypt App.Config and Web.Config, but I believe priveledges users can access the keys. I think you run into the same problem with DPAPI.

I had considered storing the passwords, encrypted in a remoted database and getting them through OS authentication, but our department prohibits the storage of passwords on database servers. I am pretty sure I am stuck and wanted confirmation.

VS 2008 Where To Store Settings For Windows Service

May 13, 2009

I've written a windows service in VB.NET 2.0 and the service needs to know a few file paths and other settings when it starts in order to be able to do what its supposed to do. These are settings that users of my service need to be able to configure themselves so I cant hard code them in.At the moment I just have the service look for a file named Config.INI in the same directory that it is being run from and if this file exists it attempts to read the settings in from there... this works perfectly, but it just feels a bit clunky and old. If it was a normal windows app I would store the settings in an XML file in the user's application data folder or something but as this is a Service then thats not possible as it is not run by any one user (well technically it is, the Local System account). I then thought about using the registry but I seem to recall people saying that you should avoid storing settings in the registry if you can really, especially with the new security in Vista and Server 2008.

Saving To Virtual Store In Windows 7 - Access Denied

Jan 14, 2010

Testing out a VB.net prog in Windows 7 that works ok in Vista and earlier. The users can set various options and save them for next time. In pre Vista this goes in the program directory in program files, in Vista it is transparently put into the user's virtual store. However, in Windows 7 trying to save the file gives an access denied error although the virtual store exists as for Vista and other apps appear to be using it ok.

Store File Into Windows Application So User Can Download It?

Jan 30, 2011

I am creating a windows application using visual studio. I want somehow to insert an excel file into the application so the user will be able to download it from the program and save it to his computer. This means that the file will be a part of the program. There will be a button that will prompt the user to save the particular file somewhere so he can then view it.

What should I do in order to "embody" the excel file to the application? And what code should I write to link the file with the button?

Using System.Windows.Forms.TabPage To Store An Entire TabPage For Later Use?

Jan 8, 2009

I am using System.Windows.Forms.TabPage to store an entire TabPage for later use in My.Settings. Here is a brief description of the application.

I have a TabControl that has 3 tabs. One for user input, another tab for equipment settings, and then a final tab for Oven settings. On the user input tab, if the user de-selects the checkbox for Oven, the oven tab is saved to My.Settings and hidden.

I can then run the application without oven control. After running, lets say the user would like to re-run, this time with the oven. They go back to the input tab and re-select the Oven checkbox. However, the Oven tab doesn't re-appear. When stepping through the code, the is nothing stored in My.Settings for the oven tab page. Why not?

Also, I can open the application, and check, then uncheck the oven checkbox and the tab is hidden, then returns. I can do this all day. However, after running the tab will not return.

Error - Create A Class Called Invoice - Hardware Store Use To Represent An Invoice For An Item Sold At Store

Apr 15, 2012

"Create a class called Invoice that a hardware store might use to represent an invoice for an item sold at the store. An Invoice should include four pieces of information as instance variables--a part number (type String), a part description (type String), a quantity of the item being purchased (type Integer) and a price per item (Type Integer). Your class should have a constructor that initialize for each of the four instance variables. Provide a property for each instance variable. If the quantity is not positive it should be set to zero. If the price per item is not positive it should be set to zero."

I attached the code I have. obj is underlined and says "Argument not specified for parameter 'Invoice4' of the 'Public Sub New (Invoice1 As Object, Invoice2 As Object, Invoice3 As Object, Invoice4 As Object)' and so the program won't run. What am I doing wrong?

Best Way To Store Data

Jul 31, 2011

I hope this is the correct place to obtain a little bit of advice for a program I am looking to produce in visual basic 2010.

I currently work as a design engineer designing press tools and a lot of our designs are similer just maybe a feature, length, diameter change etc. So the design principles are the same for each product.

What I am aiming to do is program the 3D design package so that 80% of the tool design can be done using the program etc.

Now the enquiry I have is where would the best place to hold the standard data be?

For instance each press has a maximum blank diameter, shutt height, bores diameters in the bed and likewise each product type has design features with the same calculations such as length, pierce etc.

I have done a bit of reading and I have found that data can be stored into text files, xml files and databases etc or hard coded into the program.

I am looking to allow new presses to be added so the user would need to add new shutt heuights, blank size etc but the tooling would have to be unqiue dependent on the typs of stage. So I am wondering to store this information would a database be the best option even though the data will not be continually updated more a place for it to be retrived from excpet under failry rare circumstances.

Store An Access DB In A .Net App?

Sep 15, 2010

I have a VB.Net app that uses an MS Access 2003 Database. In my connection string, I'm utilizing the "|DATADIRECTORY|" construct (see code). cnn.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=|DATADIRECTORY|MyDB.mdb;User Id=;Password=;"When I run my program, I'm getting the following error message:"Could not find file 'C:indebugMyDB.mdb'"

In order to use the "|DATADIRECTORY|", where do I need to put it within my Project. I basically want to deploy this app on stand-alone PC's. I guess a more simpler question would be: How do I deploy a single user application that uses an Access Database where the database location will go wherever the user specifies when installing the application?

So I want to know how I can store these functions in a single place so that all of my web pages can access the routines. At the moment all I know how to do is to write seperate functions in the code-behind for each individual web page.
