VS 2008 - SMTP.Credentials Required To Send An Email Or Not?

Sep 29, 2009

I'm making an application in which clients can send an SMTP email. In this application a client must select their internet provider, this possibilty already works. While testing it I tried to deactivate the SMTP.Credentials in which a username and password must be entered. Deactivating/romoving this line has no effect on sending the emails.?. I tested it on my office and at home, with 2 different providers. All mails were send.

My question: Is SMTP.Credentials required to send an email or not? What effects can deleting this line have?

Storing User Network Credentials?

Nov 1, 2011

We don't want to get the password, we only want to store the user credentials so when they do work on the application we can apply their usernameto each operation and when they are done with an operation and do a digital signature by scanning their badge we want to compare the user's credentials with the stored credentials to ensure the user has logged in and is the current user.1. User 1 logs into the program using their username/password for windows.5

Pass Current Web Credentials From Asp.net Web Application To Windows Client Application

Nov 20, 2011

I'm developing a web application that requires the user to log in using forms authentication. inside the webpage you need to download a desktop application that requires to login to the same system too. Is there a way to transfer the current logged credentials from the web application to the windows desktop application without need to login again?. Both applications shares a Login object from an vb.net interface.I tried to save the IP address in the Database but that don't work for me because the website needs to be accessed inside and/or outside of the company and the user cannot login twice in different machines.

VS 2008 Server Program Can Receive SMTP Messages From Other SMTP Servers

Aug 14, 2009

I'm using the TcpClient and TcpListener classes to read/write to the network when a request comes in on port 25. All I'm trying to do at the moment is make it so that my server program can receive SMTP messages from other SMTP servers. I've tested in Telnet - if I connect to my own IP on port 25 and type EHLO, MAIL FROM, RCPT TO, DATA etc then all works as it should and the details I entered are logged by the program (it doesnt do anything about delivering these details/email yet).all looks good... but then when I try and just send an email to my domain from my work account I can see that a connection is made to my program and the string "EHLO workdomain.com " is received by my program - my program responds to the remote SMTP server with "250-mydomain.com Hello" and then a CrLF and then "250-OK". After that point however, my app does not receive anything further at all from the server at work. I'm guessing I am doing something wrong with the data I'm returning when it sends EHLO but can anyone point me in the correct direction?

I was using telnet to test with, it seems that I have made it work only with telnet.In telnet each time I type a key the data is passed to the server, however with a real SMTP server it just sends each entire command in one go. So after altering my server a little I can now get it to respond with the 250-OK which I thought it already was doing.. but it still doesnt work. The remote server just sends EHLO and then thats it nothing more.Something interesting, at the moment I am ending all of my responses to the remote server with VbLf - if I change this to VbCrLf (which is what I believe it is meant to be according to the SMTP standard) then I get an infinite amount of empty strings sent to my program (or perhaps some other character that just shows as an empty string in intellisense when stepping through the code). Changing it back to just vbLf or ControlChars.Lf makes it go back to just sending EHLO and then nothing else..

VS 2010 Storing Application Data Within An Application

Jan 8, 2012

I was wondering if it's possible to store application data within an application without storing the data in an external file. For example, in my application, the user can choose where he/she would like to store the files that the application creates. I need to make the application remember the location that the user specified. I've tried using My.Settings to save this information, but since my application is standalone, if the location of the application changes, the My.Settings information changes as well (unless I coded it incorrectly before). I would prefer not to store this data in a .txt file or something similar.

Asp.net - Storing A Custom Object In A Web Application

Jun 14, 2012

I am at a new company and I am building a wizard for a web app, (.Net/4.0). The user goes to a few separate screens during the wizard process and must return to the original screen before completion of the wizard. This is different from how they normally do this. But this is how it is TO BE DONE.

One option is to store the result of each panel in the main screen in the DB. So then, when the user leaves & redirects back. I could check for a querystring then call a datareader and populate original values appropriately.

Storing Strings And Application Settings?

Jun 25, 2010

I've came to the stage where i need to save strings and application settings for my application. The My.Settings have worked it out until now. Now i have to store so many settings it's hard to keep track of them. That is why i need something new. So i've been looking around in INI files which seems impressively simple - but not very flexible. I've also took a look at XML which seems to be something to dive in to. But what i need now is advice. How do you store settings?

XML Files - Storing Information For Application

May 22, 2009

I am making a program that stores information for my applications. There are 4 main things I need in the XML file, the login information (User name and password), Application names and keys, and the owner of the application (who bought it). The program allows the user to enter as many applications and owners as they want and once login information is correct it loads the data. Then on exit all the data saves to a XML file.

My XML file looks like this
<Data>
<Login>
<UserName> (UserName) </UserName>
<Password> (Password </Password>

Storing Application Variables In An External File?

Jul 8, 2009

I have been tasked to create an application, for which the requirements may change over time.This application will be a data entry Windows application,of which multiple copies will be running.All data will be written to text (.CSV) files for validation before being uploaded to a remote mainframe system (iSeries).My application needs to store certain variable information in an external text (or XML) file; for example, the file path to shared resources (which may change over time),as well as the specific data fields required by the mainframe system.

My questionsare these: what is considered the best practice for accomplishing such a task, and how would I accomplish it?I am completely new to XML, so I don't even know where to begin, although I am sure that XML is the path to follow for what I am trying to accomplish.

Email Credentials Are Showing Up?

Jan 6, 2012

I have a routine that sends an email via SMTP. I'm using googles smtp server - "smtp.gmail.com". I'm using my gmail email address/password as the authentication credentials. My webpage form consists of the following fields:

"User's Name"
"Organization"
"User's Email Address"
"Subject"
"Memo"

In testing this functionality, I've found that my problem is that when the email is sent, it uses my authentication email address (my gmail email) instead of the "User's Email Address". If I can't see the User's email address, this functionality is useless.

Here is my code below.

Private Sub FormatEmail()
Dim Email_Sent As Boolean = False
Dim toEmail As String = "blakemc@mail.com"

[code]....
