What is the limit on the email subject in MailMessage? It seems to complain around 128 characters?

I am sending an email with an attachment using the following Code
Dim msg As New System.Net.Mail.MailMessage(req.EmailFrom, req.EmailTo)
Dim att As New System.Net.Mail.Attachment("C:Documents and SettingsmichaelrDesktop1216259.pdf")
With msg
.Attachments.Add(att)
[code]....
The file size of the attachment is 396KB, upon the recipient receiving the email outlook shows the file size as 543Kb. Strange thing is if I send an email with the same attachment using outlook the file size is 396Kb.I understand that file sizes can increase due to the attachment being base 64 encoded as opposed to just raw binary.What I am failing to see is why outlook send a file which is 396KB in size but in code when sending it, the same file is 543Kb.
What is the recommended file size limit for each file a project could contain?
View 1 RepliesI am trying to limit the size of my generic list so that after it contains a certain amount of values it wont add any more. I am trying to do this using the Capacity property of the List object but this does not seem to work.
Dim slotDates As New List(Of Date)
slotDates.Capacity = 7
How would people advice limiting the size of a list? I am trying to avoid doing a statement to check the size after an object is added.
I'm working on an asp.net website written in vb. I embedded fdkeditor in my page, and it works fine. As it includes image-upload feature, which works fine as well, I need to limit the size of the file before it's been uploaded.
I wonder I couldn't find anyting satisfactory on web, it seems fckeditor's developers haven't ever thought about that.
I have setup shares for each user in my domain. Also I have quotas enabled on the user's share set to 5 GB. I'm trying to figure out how I can take the current size of the users share and divide it by the limit of 5 GB and have an output of how much space the user has left using a vbs.
View 2 RepliesEnviro: 2007 Exchange Server, 2 Intranet servers (1 deploy, 1 dev) running .NET 2.0 app - all within same network / behind firewall. I am working on a legacy app by our previous web guy, when our sysadmin upgraded to exchange 2007 and put it on a new server all of the mail functions in old app broke. Had to upgrade to .NET 2.0 (from 1.x) and nothing worked untill I tried new SMTP code in a local function in the codebehind of a page of the app instead of calling a class, as follows:
Function SendNow(ByVal strFrom As String, ByVal strTo As String, ByVal strSubject As String, ByVal strBody As String) As Object
Dim msg As New MailMessage()
Dim smtp As SmtpClient
[code]....
So the above works fine, in that file. The problem is that the app was designed to call a class that resides on the dev server. When I move this same code into the class on the dev server I get transport errors. I think this has to do with the fact that we're using integrated authentication with impersonation=true and it seems to get dropped due to the class being on a different server (even though it's behind our firewall).
I could either try moving the classes to the production server or somehow keep the authentication in the class working through the hops. Either way I need to keep the class because it's referenced all over the place (in more than just this app). I am not that savvy in .NET and I cannot figure out where the setting is within the app that defines where the class is imported from. It just seems to be available no matter where the app is deployed. (Working files are on same server as classes, then publish the app to production server).
I'm using the TcpClient and TcpListener classes to read/write to the network when a request comes in on port 25. All I'm trying to do at the moment is make it so that my server program can receive SMTP messages from other SMTP servers. I've tested in Telnet - if I connect to my own IP on port 25 and type EHLO, MAIL FROM, RCPT TO, DATA etc then all works as it should and the details I entered are logged by the program (it doesnt do anything about delivering these details/email yet).all looks good... but then when I try and just send an email to my domain from my work account I can see that a connection is made to my program and the string "EHLO workdomain.com " is received by my program - my program responds to the remote SMTP server with "250-mydomain.com Hello" and then a CrLF and then "250-OK". After that point however, my app does not receive anything further at all from the server at work. I'm guessing I am doing something wrong with the data I'm returning when it sends EHLO but can anyone point me in the correct direction?
I was using telnet to test with, it seems that I have made it work only with telnet.In telnet each time I type a key the data is passed to the server, however with a real SMTP server it just sends each entire command in one go. So after altering my server a little I can now get it to respond with the 250-OK which I thought it already was doing.. but it still doesnt work. The remote server just sends EHLO and then thats it nothing more.Something interesting, at the moment I am ending all of my responses to the remote server with VbLf - if I change this to VbCrLf (which is what I believe it is meant to be according to the SMTP standard) then I get an infinite amount of empty strings sent to my program (or perhaps some other character that just shows as an empty string in intellisense when stepping through the code). Changing it back to just vbLf or ControlChars.Lf makes it go back to just sending EHLO and then nothing else..
i've tried to extend on the default class size, but couldn't do so. example

why is it that there is no such thing as size when im sure that i could create a new size(x, y)
Is it possible to have a UD Class that can limit how big it can grow as an array?
for example:dim var(10) as class this would throw an exception cause the class will only grow up to 5 elements.dim var(4) as class valid cause it is under the 5 element rule dim var(4, 10) as class invalid cause the 2nd dimension is above the 5 element rule. (would throw exception)
I am making a class that has a property that I want to be of type System.Drawing.Size. I don't seem to be able to reference system.drawing from within my class, and therefor can't set my property's data type to Size. Anyone know how I might do this?
View 2 Repliesi am sending an email message from outlook using this method:
dim message as new mailmessage(from,to, subject, body)
mailclient.send(message)' mailclient is defined as an smtpclient
my from is "aaa@yahoo.com" (the mail is fiction for the purpose of demonstrating what i am doing)and this method works but I don't want the reciever to see that the mail is from aaa@yahoo.com, I want him to see that its from "Blacknight". In yahoo you can simply write [URL] <Blacknight> and this will work. how do i add a name to the mail in mailmessage?
I am trying to write code to send a mail message with an attached file.my code works fine if I don't try to attach a file but crashes when I do. I have not been able to figure this out.[code]
View 2 RepliesI'm attempting to send an MHMTL document out as an email and am having issues getting it to do so. What I've done is created a windows service to poll reporting services for a "Web Archive" report (read in as a string or byte array via System.Net.WebClient) that I then want to send out to a set of people via System.Net.Mail.MailMessage.
I'm aware that reporting services has subscriptions built in, but the situation is a little more complex than that and requires a seperate program to poll the report. What I'm looking for is some sort of code sample or something that demonstrates sending MHTML as part of the body of an email using VB.NET (Or C#) ASP.NET 2.0 standard objects. If anyone could point me in the right direction or has a cut and paste that'd be great.
Does a the size of the class affect the memory usage of the application? is it better to break big classes into smaller classes or just group them up into one big class.
View 2 RepliesI've been using the System.Net namespace ever since we switched from .net Framework 1.1 to the 3.5 framework, but there's one thing that's been puzzling me since. What's the difference between the Sender and the From properties in the MailMessage class?Are they both the same, and if not is there a reason to use Sender together with From?
For example:
Using m As New System.Net.Mail.MailMessage()
m.Sender = New System.Net.Mail.MailAddress("test@test.com", "Name here")

I have an ASP.Net app that allows a user to write text into a Telerik RadEditor control and then send an email.For some reason I'm sometimes getting strange characters showing up in the email that is generated.se if I use the later, the text would show up just fine. If I pull up the saved record within the ASP.Net apps interface it looks just fine. It also appears just fine when I view the text within the recorded of the MS SQL table it was stored in. I am trying to send email messages from a Windows based Visual Basic application. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and .NET 3.5. The IP address in the config file is correct. But this gives an error message: Failure sending mail.

I have a system where an email is generated and sent out. I need to create a mechanism to store the email as proof that it was sent.At first I thought I could store the email in my database. Easy until I realised that MailMessage() is not serialised. Did find some links on how to serialise it but it looks enormously complicated and I could not get any of them close to working.
I then came across this article which adds a save method to the class. The code can be found here:[URL]..
Its written in C# so Ive had to convert it VB.Net but I cannot see to fix a single error which is:
Extension methods can be defined only in modules.

But this certificate doesn't have a "Subject Unique Identifier" Take a look at this:

And I want to know how can I read that value from my .NET code (I looked that I can get SerialNumber, Thumbprints and others but there is no Subject UID anywhere).
If anyone can share an openssl command to include this UID for the certificate :-) (pfx one)
i am trying to select all the messages written from a certain from_id but only display the latest message with the same subject id. for example my messaging table looks like this:

How do I add the filename using the above property as I am unable to find anything in MSDN.

Is there like a urn:schemas:httpmail:subject or something like that where I can pull the subject line out? this is the way that I have been told to interact with the Exchange server so if anyone can shed any light on how to modify the above code to add a subject node and WHY - I am sure I can figure out how to modify it further to meet my needs.
So just to be clear, my question is this:
How can I modify the above code snippet to also include the subject line of an e-mail pulled off an Exchange server?
I want to put a string in an emails subject text box.
For eg.
I want "This is Lab flles for test only" to be written into the subject text box of an email on hitting a button.
but again how do I make my program to open up an email?
I have a small program that reads a network drive and produces a simple text file with the names of all documents in the directory - it works great. I need to modify this and add the "subject" property to the listing, such as: DOCUMENT NAME SUBJECT

I had an interesting bug today when sending plain text emails from our system. We format messages like this: -1st something happened blab bla. -2nd something else happened blab blab blaa bla. Today we had an email that looked like this: -1st something happened blab bla. -2nd something else happened blab blab blaa bla $1000.00 -3rd Something happened. So above, we see that we lost the CrLf but only on the message that didn't have a period and ended in 0. I went through the code and found the CrLf is intack up until we send the email. I tracked the code down below, I am guessing it applies to C# as well:
