Suggestions On Including Web Browser Control In Desktop Application
Mar 10, 2010
I am writing a desktop app in VB.Net, and I'd like to include a web browser control to automate certain functions the user might have to perform in the browser. I have to render the page so I do not want to use the webrequest to make direct calls. When I publish the app, do I have to be concerned with which version of Internet Explorer the user has on their machine? Are their any third party, freely available, stable web browser controls available for VB.Net that people are using?

I simply want to create an application that can save each n every keystroke pressed from the keyboard and then user will be able to assign it a hotkey. And then whenever user presses that hotkey the data that is relevent/linked with that hotkey should be pasted into the active window e.g. notepad, ms word, email etc. I have developed it on my own everything is working fine but whenever I hit the assigned hotkey it wont stop sending data to the active window maybe because of timer.

I have a working Visual Basic application. I wish to have a html page that displays how to use it. How do I link it into a web browser control? This will be published and can't be just typing in the directory name as it may not exist on the client computer. How do I get it to look for the file in my solution explorer? I am using WPF in visual basic 2008 EXPRESS.

I am using the web browser control to generate screenshots of an intranet application developed in ASP.NET.
The screenshot is generated, compressed and then stored as a BLOB in the database. When I developed this facility I investigated the best way of compressing the image (to the lowest byte size), however the images still seem to be too big as the database table is growing larger than I hoped. I am using the TIFF format, but I am now thinking that this may not be the best as it is used by photographers (who I assume require good quality photographs). Here is the code to compress the image (before it is stored as a BLOB):

I've got a VB.net application. Currently the release version of the application is produced without a PDB file. This gives me error logs lacking useful details such as line numbers. I'm looking at including the PDB files with future builds but i'd like to know what the advantages and disadvantages of this are (performance wise, size wise, code security wise)

I have a web service that I'd like to include as a project reference inside a windows forms application. (The application will be running on non-networked hardware.) I could simply copy the *.vb files I need into my forms project, but I'd rather not fork the code base.It wasn't hard to include the ASP project in the windows forms solution. However, I can't figure out how to reference it in my forms code.

Where do we make feature suggestions for VB.NET?Basically, I'd like to suggest that they introduce "strikethrough comments". As an alternative to using the single quote ' for remarks, you can use the backquote (ASCII 96) ` which does exactly the same thing except that the text appears with strikethrough. This would be good for "commenting out" code. So if I am replacing a bit of code, I can "cross out" the old code,

Let's say 10 desktop shortcuts, all with different names/icons, point to and can start the same exe application from the same directory. Is there any means for the application to know the distinct name of the shortcut that was doubled_clicked. Also is there any means for a running application to know if it was started by command line, by a double_click on the exe, by a double_click on a shortcut that points to it, or by another process' call?

Question: I created an ASP.NET web application. Now it originally was meant for deployment on a webserver. That is working, so, so far so good.My question now is: Is it possible to deploy it as a desktop-application, too? That is to say the installer installs some kind of server, plus the web application, configures the server to run this application on a localhost URL, and then creates a link in the start menu/desktop, where it opens that url (website, the application) on localhost in a web browser?
I think it should be possible, though the server wouldn't be IIS, because this is a windows component which can't be separately installed. Is there anything like this already out there The nonplusultra would be that it only starts the server when you click on the shortcut.

I have an application that is written in VB.NET, using the System.Windows.Forms.Form as the front-end GUI. It runs perfectly on my Windows machine however recently there is a business requirement to convert this application to run as a web application so that people could view them in their blackberries when they go to the URL. Is there any quick way to perform such a conversion or I will have to translate the code line-by-line for such cases?

the system is going to have two front-ends - one web application and one desktop application. The desktop application is going to be coded using VB.NET, and the web application in PHP. There's really no reason why the desktop application can't be replaced by a web application as well - except that one of the programmers seem to really want to code it in VB...However none of us have experience working with either of these pairs .
P.S. hosting service will be gotten from some provider and not be on the client's own server.

I'd like to give a homework assignment to a person learning VB.NET. I'd like it to use basic inheritance and a variety of data structures including queues, lists, arrays, or stacks in a windows forms application. I was thinking of a pizza-ordering application. This would allow them to utilize some basic inheritance and practice using .NET UI elements.

I am trying to use the Web Browser control in my vb .net user control. I am using VS 2008. Finally, I will be calling my assembly (.dll) from a web page. I wanted to display the usercontrol with the web browser control inside this web page. The problem is I cannot proceed since the Web browser control cannot be called from a partially trusted assembly. Using VS 2008 I have created a strong name for my class, also added the <Assembly: AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers()> to the AssemblyInfo. But still the web browser control cannot be seen in my web page. Do you how I can make my assembly fully trusted so that it can access web browser control? If you have used web browser control, can you confirm if this step is really required?!

I know how to make the webbrowser1.navigate via textbox1.text with multiple lines, however I want my webbrowser to navigate to each url every 1-1.5 seconds once button1 is clicked.
