I'm trying to connect to a database that's defined in Windows control panel as a System DSN ODBC Data Source. The database is an Access mdb and I can't figure out how to get an OleDbConnection to reference it. All the Access drivers want me to point to the mdb file itself and I don't want to do that since the DB will be on a network eventually.

what are the metadata files? i found them in the debug folder of the code i was given, do i need to point to them? do i need to move them somewhere else?
I am trying to insert the information from comboxes, check boxes, and date and time picker. I am getting the following error when I hit submit button. However, it seems that if the same user always logs in and out and edits the list, this user will run into a "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired." error. I've read a comment about it possibly caused by uncommitted transactions. And I do have one going in the application.

the error is generated at the open method note* this same code works fine in another computer, the main difference is that this one has a 64 bit OS.
i am trying to connect to an MS Access database and I am getting an erro message on the following line of

I have a problem reading data from an RFID-reader. I connect to the reader by tcp and wait for DataAvailable to be true, then reading the data until I got a end of data character. Then I just go back and waiting for a new DataAvailable. This is done in a own thread for the function.
There seems to be some kind of timeout, If I don't got any data in a couple of minutes, then it just sits there in the do/loop waiting for DataAvailable. I hold the card to the RFID reader, it beeps, but there is no data available. I don't get any exeptions, and the information says that the clientsocket is still connected. Are there anything more I can check?
If I put the card to the reader in a minute-interval it seems as this will never occur. So 2-3 minutes idle:ing seems to do this.

View 6 Repliesim trying to detect if the connection is still active upon trying to send or receive anything. Now I have checks in place if it's connected then it will send or receive however... it's saying it's connected when it is not connected... and therefore my program tries to send and receive and errors.
I am determining if it is ok to send and receive by using the Socket.Poll(-1, SelectMode.SelectWrite)
if it's true then im connected and data can be passed..This seems to always be true until I send something and it fails..How can I catch the socket not being connected before it fails upon sending or receiving?

I'm looking to write a custom program in VB.NET / C++ / C# that would allow me to monitor a system's vitals over a Remote Desktop Connection. I'm only looking for tips on how to implement a connection like this in code (eg. is it just a simple object or call to a WScript function? or is it much more sophisticated?). As to the specifics of operation after making the connection, I have that figured out based on another program which shares some similar features. This doesn't have to go through an RDP connection, I'm definitely looking for better ways. Reason I mention RDP is because I currently do this manually over an RDP connection, but I don't wanna have to constantly open the window.

I am using VS 2008, Office 2007, and Win7 Home Premium on my system.I have a simple application which should be a breeze to build. All I am attempting to do is pull data from an Access database with four small tables into a data grid on a windows project. Should be simple, set up the data connection, choose a datagrid from the table in the data source view, drag it onto the page and done, right?I can't get it to work. It will all work fine until I attempt to run or debug the project. The data will not show up. The data grid does, but I get this error: A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll
As I said, the project seems to build fine, but it will not pull the data. After the initial build I get the message that Windows will show this page in Compatibility View. Is it something with Win7 Home Premium, or a setting somewhere?
I have a windows service written in .NET 2.0 that will run every 5 minutes and executes bunch oracle SQL/PLSQL scripts based on time/validation, it throws the above said error some times against some SQLs, the same SQLs run fine at later point without any error, I have no idea what is going on with the app. I am not sure if this has any thing to do with oracle connection pool as I am properly closing the connections after every SQL execution.
