FCL For A Method That Will Allow To Erase A Line Of Text From A Text File And Replace It With Another Line Of Text
Dec 19, 2008I've been looking through the FCL for a method that will allow me to erase a line of text from a text file and replace it with another line of text. Neither the StreamReader nor StreamWriter have a method for replacing or removing Text from a text file, as does the string object. Are there any available methods for erasing just certain lines of text from a file, and then replacing them with others?
In my code, I'd like to locate a certain line in the text file, and then at that point in the text file, use a For...Next Loop to replace each successive line of the text file with new text:
Dim user_data_file As String = "user_data.txt"
edit_input = New StreamReader(user_data_file)
Dim edit_line As String = edit_input.ReadLine

However, I can't find any methods that will allow me to do this.

I have 2 List boxes, a textbox, and a command button.What I am trying to do is take about 100 text files that all have certain text in them that I need to change at run time to whatever I put into the textbox. For instance Each Text file has my old company name and I want to be able enter my new name into the textbox and click the command button and the app will open each text file, find the text that I specify and replace it with my new name then save the file into a specified folder.What elements should I be studying to make this happen? So far this is what I've come up with:
OpenFileDialog - to open the file
StreamReader - to read the text files and find the text that I specified
**Not sure on the replace method**
StreamWriter - to write the text from the textbox to the new file
SaveFileDialog - to save the file to the specified location

Feb 10, 2011What I've decided to start working on is pretty much a personal project but something I may use in my UNI course in due time. I'm creating a security program with a set of access codes (yes I am a bit of a star trek fan) - 4 in total to be exact. I want to be able to use an Encrypted key file in form of a simple notepad created text file to update the codes at any due time. All I'm looking to do is write the access codes to the text file (say for a friend to use the program), Encrypt the file through the program and be able to also decrypt to obtain the new access codes on demand also via the same program. Once decrypted the codes can be read and verified if the user has entered each one correctly. I could hard code the access codes into the program but would rather do it the way I've thought of.
Back in the days of the old VB6 there was a simple method but for some reason that doesnt work any more. What I guess I'm looking to do is have 4 text fields where 4 digit access codes are typed into, have the program take them and encrypt each one is then written to the text file. Hoping that will make it a bit clearer what I'm trying to achieve as I think I made it sound like I want to encrypt the text file after the info has been written to it, which is of course one option so wouldn't mind know how to do that too!

Aug 9, 2009I've seen a lot of threads on the web discussing about which encryption algorithm is better.According to what I've read, AES encryption algorithm is based on Rijndael's algorithm, and the first is the one being implemented by the US's government to secure TOP SECRET files.From what I've tried RijndaelManaged only supports 128bit long keys (that would be a byte array with 16 byte values, right?) and not 256 as I had first thought; however, AES seems to support 256bit keys (or is it all the way around?), I haven't personally tried DES nor TripleDES.
So, which one is better or more secure? And what's up with asymmetrical encryption? What's the difference? Can both symmetrical and asymmetrical encryption be used for the same thing?

I would like the text from after the colon to be underlined. I tried using a range but it didn't work. Secondly, that only works if there's text to look for in the first place! I would like to put text in an empty cell. How do I locate the cell programmatically? It's the second table in the document's second row.

It is successfully removing 2, f and s..but it won't remove all the blank spaces. I am wanting my string to remove all the spaces...example "22f 33s 99y" would become 22.3399 instead of 22.33 99
