View 1 RepliesI made my own advanced networking system which uses System.IO.Streamwriter and Streamreader but offline. I would like to let this use a directory online, I have a webhost available for that, now how do I say to the program it has to look at a specific map with all the users information?
I now have already this into my login form:
Private Sub btnLogin_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnLogin.Click
On Error GoTo A

Just curious if I can let my network grow out international instead of pc. Also I have a second question. I made a create account page which is supposted to make a text file with the txtUserName and txtPassword inputs, but it does create the file, but doesnt write any lines into it.
Code here:
Private Sub btnCreate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCreate.Click
Dim UserGenerator As System.IO.StreamWriter

encountering a problem when trying to write data to a text file. If I put the output into a messagebox I can see it, but when I attempt to write it to a file it is just blank. What am I missing here? EDIT - This is just a simple winform that I specify a path to a local HTML file in Textbox1 and I'm attempting to parse some HREF tag data.

I need to add a row of data to an exisitng TextFile that is in Tba delimited format. My program currently used ADO to read and update the table but that was creating to many problems with varying 3rd party providers of the Text File.

Here's my code to add new lines to my text file:
[Code]...
When the button is pressed the line is written to the file just fine, but if I restart my application, which calls Refresh_OtherLog() onLoad, it displays the lines of the text file as one line with the traditional square character depicting a character return. Why is it not putting that new lone as a new line in the listbox?
I am writing each line to a text file:
Dim objWriter As New System.IO.StreamWriter(filename)
For Each x In tofile
objWriter.WriteLine(x)
Next
objWriter.Close()
Which works perfectly the only problem is is that when its finished it writes a blank line on the end of the text file which I don't want.
I am new to the forum I have been working on a GUI to export verification data to a text file. I have it set up to work at home but I would like to adapt the code so that it will write the text file to the directory that I use at work also. I have the areas commented out where things that I have attempted do not work. Here is what I have for code:

I have some large csv files (1.5gb each) where I need to replace specific values. The method I'm currently using is terribly slow and I'm fairly certain that there should be a way to speed this up but I'm just not experienced enough to know what I should be doing. This is my first post and I tried searching through to find something relevant but didn't come across anything.
My other thought would be to break the file into chunks so that I can read the entire thing into memory, do all of the replacements there and then output to a consolidated file. I tried this but the way I did it actually ended up seeming slower than my current method.
Sub Main()
Dim fName As String = "2009.csv"
Dim wrtFile As String = "2009.1.csv"

I'm trying to use StreamWriter to write to a text file; it creates the file fine, but when I open it up, it's still empty. I marked the code below where the writing action takes place.
vb Public Sub BHorse_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BHorse.Click
Dim oMarketsReq As New BFExchange.GetAllMarketsReq
Dim oMarketsResp As BFExchange.GetAllMarketsResp
Dim BFWrite As System.IO.StreamWriter
BFWrite = IO.File.CreateText("C:Datamarket.txt")
With oMarketsReq

View 2 Repliesim trying to read a online txt file and its not working [code]but it has a uri error i think in doing it wrong but need help with how im doing it wrong, all i want to do is read the text from a file online not from the system should be easy.
View 1 RepliesUsually, the text file that would need to be read and processed would be local (on the computer the program is run), but for this example, we need to get the data from an online text file.
I have searched on google for nearly an hour now and haven't found anything of any real use. One of the earlier projects we submitted used a similar target, and I managed to get it working fine, however I dont have the original source code with me and I cannot remember how I did it.
I believe I used a Net.WebRequest method of some sort, because I had tried using StreamReader and ended up with an URI error or something like that.
Is there anyway to find out the contents of a text file thats online?[code]...
View 3 RepliesI am trying to get the program to read a text file online. Thus it can return a result if present inside the text file. If text file contains XXX@yahoo.com Then show form.
Private Sub Form6_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim request As System.Net.HttpWebRequest = System.Net.HttpWebRequest.Create("")
Dim response As System.Net.HttpWebResponse = request.GetResponse()
Dim sr As System.IO.StreamReader = New System.IO.StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream())
How would i open a text file which is hosted online, even with the url ending in .txt? When i try to open this in streamreader i get uri location is not supported.

I have a program that has a combobox. It always needs to be updated w/o redownloading the program, so what I figured was best is to keep a text file on my server that lists all items that should be in the combobox. [Code] This code works perfectly for a text file on my computer, but I am needing to do the exact same thing but from a text file on my server (http:www.example.com/textfile.txt).

I have thios code that will load a php file (text file) into a sting via streamreader then its supposed to find and replace a portion of the text and write the changes back out to the file via streamwriter. I put my code together and after running it look at the file and it's unchanged. After looking closer it appears the problem is the find & replace operation I am doing on the string. Here is my code:

Is There Any Possible Way To Convert Bytes To Readable text?
View 6 RepliesI am having trouble converting the Bytes() to a readable text.
I will be receiving packets from a UDP Connection, but due to lack of connectivity issues, they have provided me a .mem file that i am assuming is the whole stream of the packet.
So for now, i am trying to read the file and i get a collection of bytes(). but i cannot convert it to readable text.
In developing a flash-based memory manager, I need to be able to view large quantities of data. With my eyes and monitor resolution, I can read hand-drawn 3x5 letters on a 4x6 matrix without too much difficulty, but none of the system TrueType fonts render optimally at that size. I've tried writing code to draw font shapes to off-screen bitmaps, and then use DrawImage to copy those bitmaps to the screen, but I can't get good performance. This is for development, not production, so performance doesn't have to be absolutely optimal, but I don't want to spend too long waiting for screens of data to refresh.
What would be the best way of either making .net display a font which is pixel-perfect what I want, or else building a bitmap out of lots of little pieces quickly? I'm using vb.net, so I can't simply generate a bitmap as a byte array and pass that to the Bitmap constructor unless someone can show me how to convert an array into an IntPtr.
