I am new to the forum I have been working on a GUI to export verification data to a text file. I have it set up to work at home but I would like to adapt the code so that it will write the text file to the directory that I use at work also. I have the areas commented out where things that I have attempted do not work. Here is what I have for code:

I have a variable (double) that is constantly update in real time with data from an analog input. I would like to write this data as it comes in to a txt file. When I stop my acquisition of data from my analog input, I should have a txt file with all that data stored on my computer wherever I want it. The way I'd like that txt file to be laid out is like so:
Test Title: "This info comes from a string variable"
Operator Name: "This info comes from another string variable"
Test Date: "This info comes from yet another string variable"

And so forth. As you can see I would also like to write the time for each data. This depends on my Timer interval which the user can set. The default is 50ms. So by default, y1 y2 y3 would be 0, 50, 100. How would I generate such a text file?
PS: I have five variables (X, Y, strTitle, strName, strDate)
i can get this program to read the file but i now want to be able to call on the file from another form and use specific pieces of data for login verification and balance handling purposes.

encountering a problem when trying to write data to a text file. If I put the output into a messagebox I can see it, but when I attempt to write it to a file it is just blank. What am I missing here? EDIT - This is just a simple winform that I specify a path to a local HTML file in Textbox1 and I'm attempting to parse some HREF tag data.

Here's my code to add new lines to my text file:

When the button is pressed the line is written to the file just fine, but if I restart my application, which calls Refresh_OtherLog() onLoad, it displays the lines of the text file as one line with the traditional square character depicting a character return. Why is it not putting that new lone as a new line in the listbox?
I am writing each line to a text file:

Which works perfectly the only problem is is that when its finished it writes a blank line on the end of the text file which I don't want.
Is it possible to use the streamWriter to read a .txt file thats in a web address online?
View 1 RepliesI have some large csv files (1.5gb each) where I need to replace specific values. The method I'm currently using is terribly slow and I'm fairly certain that there should be a way to speed this up but I'm just not experienced enough to know what I should be doing. This is my first post and I tried searching through to find something relevant but didn't come across anything.
My other thought would be to break the file into chunks so that I can read the entire thing into memory, do all of the replacements there and then output to a consolidated file. I tried this but the way I did it actually ended up seeming slower than my current method.

i need help with stream writer, i can get it read lines and stuff like that but now i need Streamwriter to write to a colour.txt file (already populated with data) and insert a line that isn't already in the file, into alph order eg combobox reads and displays list from txt file.
their is a colour thats isn't in the text file, so i would like it to take the colour from the combobox that was typed in by the user and place it into the colour.txt file in alphabetical order (these are car colours so their are 100's and 1000's per manufacturer, its not as basic as i want red blue black lol) i was able to find loads of data about streamreader but not so much about stream writer
I have thios code that will load a php file (text file) into a sting via streamreader then its supposed to find and replace a portion of the text and write the changes back out to the file via streamwriter. in my forms i want to provide a button which can create a file with textbox data, combobox , data grid view, etc ( file can be of any form XML, Csv, Excel etc (just to email it normally ) on the other hand when we download it, its value can be restored in the form and with onther button can be saved normally as we save using access database)now any one please guide me how to create csv in a specific folder using data from form which includes different box and one datagridview.what will be helpful if normal data can be saved in one worksheet and datagridview in other worksheet. View 11 RepliesI am just down right confused right now... I made a slight modification to my games saving system, and it worked before this modification... I only changed "one" thing in the saving and loading of the save file system.
now it went from working when trying to verify the save data, to throwing this error when I enter the username of "test" and the password of "test...
there is not a save file for that combination of data, and prior to the save/load system edits, it would realize that, and throw a message box error that I made for that senario... but now, it does this when trying to load the human class. that save file that it is trying to load and verify that does not exist is supposed to be "test the human"

it is supposed to throw my message box stating that there is no file in that combination, and the edits that I made only write a description of what each line of code is in the game... I had also made a variable called "nulldata" that takes those lines of text, and keeps them out of the games loaded data, so for each string of text that I added, it is basically rendered useless upon the save file being loaded...if you enter valid save information, then it loads just fine... so I am just plain confused right now.

I am basically converting the template file into a single string, replacing application fields in the string with {0}, {1}, etc... and adding the result into an array that is then passed to the String.Format(str_Template, Params()) to provide the final output. I have set it up so the template will use the standard VB.Net formatting syntax.
