C# - Find Out If The "TextChanged" Event Is Fired If User Is Typing Into A Textbox Or MyTextBox.Text Is Called Programmatically?

Mar 9, 2012

Is there a way to find out if the "TextChanged" event is fired because the user is typing into a textbox or the programmer called myTextBox.Text = "something"? I don't want to react when the user is typing each letter into the textbox so I am using the "Validated" event to catch when the user is done so I can react. The problem is I don't have a way to catch when the programmer does "myTextbox.Text = "something". The only way I know to catch changes there is to use TextChanged but then I don't want to be reacting when the user is typing each letter into the textbox.

Populating A Table Programmatically?

Apr 15, 2010

I'm working in VB 2008 Express.

I have an MS Access DB with a Table setup with the columns that I need.

I have it linked into a form, with the requisite BindingSource, TableAdapter, BindingNavigator, etc.

On the form, I also have several textboxes linked back to the table. I can populate the table via the + (add new) button in the BindingNavigator and then filling in the textboxes (and saving of course).

Is there a way that I can put a button on the form and populate the table automatically? I want to do this via a textbox to control the number of records added - that way, I can put in an 8 and have 8 blank records added to the table via this one click (and don't have to enter the default info in for the 8 records one at a time).

I've attempted to do this by calling the BindingNavigatorAddNewItem_Click subroutine, filling in the textboxes and then calling MapBindingNavigatorSaveItem_Click subroutine, but this does not work.

Populating ListView In WPF Programmatically?

Dec 15, 2011

I have started the familiarize myself with WPF and have gotten stuck with the ListView I've read a lot of documentation about binding and I can't seem to find how to populate a ListView programmatically. It seems like a lot of work to create the binding and classes, etc, just to fill a ListView.

1. If you want to populate a ListView with data that a user has inputted, is the correct way in WPF to populate the ListView with binded data?

2. How do you add items and subitems to a ListView in code? (There doesn't seem to be a subitems in WPF.)

Create Textbox.TextChanged?

Dec 2, 2011

I am using Visual Studio 10 and have run in to an issue that I cannot resolve on my own.When debugging one of my forms the app hangs on a text box control with no errors. But only if you change the text, or press the "Tab" key. The text box is in a group box with a range of other text boxes most with the same properties. All of the controls in this group are connected to an access database record, and formatted to accept the same type(s) of input.Here is the code associated with the control;

[/Private Sub MPhoneTxt_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MPhoneTxt.TextChanged

VS 2008 Controlling Command Flow For TextBox.TextChanged?

Feb 6, 2010

I have a TextBox called Social. As you type in a Social Security Number into the textbox, it formats itself into the standard Social Security Number Format (XXX-XX-XXXX). It automatically adds in the dashes after the third and fifth number, or corrects/removes the dashes if numbers are added or removed from in front of the dashes. Also I coded the script to record the caret's location so that the caret goes back to where the caret was before the adjustment in dashes.

I used Pos and PosHold to hold the caret's location.

The problems I am having are:If I remove a number before one of the dashes, the caret is reset to '0' from using break points, it seem to jump out of the if statement before setting the location of the caret. Sometimes when a number is removed from before the dashes, the dashes are removed like scripted but, the dash is not put back in the correct location. This seems to happen primarily if you have numbers passed the second dash.

Textbox KeyDown Event Not Firing?

This was working great before I switched the form from a UserControl to an actual Form. This change did not change actual code. So now, I have tried everything. I have the textbox to set to AcceptTab = True, and I have KeyPreview = False (because if the form grabs the event before the textbox does, it would mess things up I am assuming). Here is my code for the textbox:

Prevent Validating/Validated Event From Firing In Custom Textbox?

Oct 28, 2009

I have a custom text box component (inherits from system.windows.forms.textbox) that I created in vb.net (2005) that handles the input of numeric data. It works well.

I would like to suppress the validating and validated events from firing if the number hasn't changed. If a user is tabbing through the form and tabs from the text box, the validating/validated events are fired.

I was thinking that the text box could cache the value and compare it to what is listed in the text property. If they are different, then I would want the validating/validate events to fire. If they are the same, nothing is fired.

I can't seem to figure out how to suppress the event. I have tried overriding the OnValidating event. That didn't work.

Update:

Here is the custom text box class. The idea is that I want to cache the value of the text box on the validate event. Once the value is cached, the next time the user tabs through the box, the validating event will check to see if the _Cache is different from the .Text. If so that is when I would like to raise the validating event to the parent form (as well as the validated event). If the _cache is the same, then I don't want to raise the event to the form. Essentially the text box will work the same as a regular text box except that the validating and validated method are only raised to the form when the text has changed.

Public Class CustomTextBox
#Region "Class Level Variables"
Private _FirstClickCompleted As Boolean = False 'used to indicate that all of the text should be highlighted when the user box is clicked - only when the control has had focus shifted to it

VS 2008 Populating Textbox With Decimal From An Access Database?

Jul 7, 2010

I have a field in an access database with decimals in it. I am using ADO to read in the data and are trying to assign it to a textbox in a form. This works fine when its a whole number. But it doesnt seem to work when its a decimal for some reason.

I have declared the variable i have assigned the access field to as a double, but when i set up a test textbox which i point the variable at and times it by 1000, it doesnt work. Works perfectly when i change the access field entry to a whole number though.

This sounds like im not using the right syntax or something.
