Populating A Table Programmatically?

Apr 15, 2010

I'm working in VB 2008 Express.

I have an MS Access DB with a Table setup with the columns that I need.

I have it linked into a form, with the requisite BindingSource, TableAdapter, BindingNavigator, etc.

On the form, I also have several textboxes linked back to the table. I can populate the table via the + (add new) button in the BindingNavigator and then filling in the textboxes (and saving of course).

Is there a way that I can put a button on the form and populate the table automatically? I want to do this via a textbox to control the number of records added - that way, I can put in an 8 and have 8 blank records added to the table via this one click (and don't have to enter the default info in for the 8 records one at a time).

I've attempted to do this by calling the BindingNavigatorAddNewItem_Click subroutine, filling in the textboxes and then calling MapBindingNavigatorSaveItem_Click subroutine, but this does not work.

Populating ListView In WPF Programmatically?

Dec 15, 2011

I have started the familiarize myself with WPF and have gotten stuck with the ListView I've read a lot of documentation about binding and I can't seem to find how to populate a ListView programmatically. It seems like a lot of work to create the binding and classes, etc, just to fill a ListView.

1. If you want to populate a ListView with data that a user has inputted, is the correct way in WPF to populate the ListView with binded data?

2. How do you add items and subitems to a ListView in code? (There doesn't seem to be a subitems in WPF.)

Primary Key Not Populating In Child Table?

Jun 10, 2011

I'm having some problems trying to input records into a relational database. The design is really simple but I'm running into a wall when it comes to having the foreign key from my child table autopopulate the primary key from the parent table. I've made the connections in Access and from what I understood, so long as I committed a transaction, the child table would populate the primary key from the parent table. This is not happening.

my question is: is there a method that would do what I'm looking for? or am I cornered into using @@IDENTITY and manually inserting the primary key into the child table?

I've tried using datasets and data adapters and created a datarelation within the dataset, but it is still not doing what I need. everything I've tried thus far has allowed me to insert records into multiple tables, but won't relate them because of the missing primary key in the child table.

.Net: Connect SQL Table To Programmatically Created DataGridView?

Dec 17, 2009

how to connect a SQL Table to a DataGridView that was previously created programmatically. Basically, at run-time the user names and creates several empty SQL Tables and DataGridViews. After that the user selects from a combobox the name of the SQL Table and DataGridView that they want to import data into, then clicks a button named "Import"...after clicking "Import" the user navigates to an Excel file, chooses a worksheet, clicks a "Continue" button and then the code successfully connects to the Excel import file and SQLBulkCopies the data to the SQL Table...next I need the imported data in the SQL Table update to the DataGridView...this is the part I can't figure out.

The challenge is the datagridview isn't hard coded it was created and named programmatically at runtime. So now the user selects the name of the SQL Table the data resides in and the name of the DataGridView from the combobox "moduletableCB" and I need the code to update the datagridview.

In Entity Framework, We Can Use Model First, DB First, Code First But How Can We Create Table Programmatically?

Jun 9, 2012

In entity framework we can use 3 approaches model first , code first , database first but each one of them needs manual hand touch(means creating database or create model or write the POCO class codes or entity class codes) before proceeding to the next step ( using EF in context ).What if I want to create database and tables and table relationships programatically and still want to have to features of EntityFramework 4.3.

To be more specific ,from this example http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307283 we can create database , tables and everything using SQL command but we can't have the advantages of entity framework. So if we want to have that what should we do? To give the ability to create dynamic table fields those steps will not be sufficient. In all 3 steps database , table and table columns are fixed. There is no way that a user can create new tables or columns dynamically. http:[url].... in this post , it shows how to create manual db, tables and etc using SQL but it is based on ADO.NET but I want Entity Manager to do that.

Populating Rdlc Reports From Data In A Form OR Data From An MDF Table

Mar 27, 2008

I have a simple windows form that i would like to send the values of a few textboxes and comboboxes to an rdlc report after saving them (I have VS 2005 standard, so no crystal reports) - it's as follows:

-1 form
-3 textboxes - textbox1, textbox2, textbox3
-1 label - label1
-1 combobox - combobox1
-5 buttons - button1, button2, button3, button4, button 5

the textboxes are labeled length, width, height the combobox is labled unit of measure and contains two options - inches or centimetres the label has text of "your total cubic inches/centimetres is:" - followed by the unit of measure selected.the buttons are labeled save, calculate, print, print preview, and exit.Having said all of the above, the save, calculate and exit button code is easy enough and is good to go - it's print and print preview i'm stuck on the solution i'm after is to take those values and send them to an rdlc report that immediately prints (calls up the default printer dialogue) without preview or anything when the print button is clicked and also have a print preview function as well for when of course the print preview button is clicked. The report has already been created with the titles mentioned above..

Foreign Key Not Populating

Jun 7, 2011

The general problem is that I can't get the foreign key in one of my child tables to populate the primary key from the parent table. I have a parent table named "ISSUES" and a child table named "ISSDESC". The primary key for ISSUES is ISS_ID which is an autonumber. The foreign key is ISS_ID in the ISSDESC table which is just a number. I'm using MS Access and an OLEDBConnection as the method. I've created the relationship in MS Access and also created the datarelation in the VB.NET code.
