VS 2008 Search Every File On Specified Drive?
May 7, 2009i have done this a couple of years ago but i completely forget how i did it. I want a means of searching every file whether it be in sub folders, or sub folders of the sub folders and comparing the attributes of the file.
In other words, my program will search every file on the computer. For each file that it searches my program will attempt to io.file.readalltext etc.. the file. If the contents eqaul "....." then actions will hapen. If the file is greater then a certain size then actions will happen etc...
I want to see the attributes of each searched file, i will be using Dim FI as new FileInfo().
So how do i search each file in a directory? and all directories in the directory and so on?
Copy Entire Contents Of USB Drive Using VB?
Jun 1, 2010I am trying to copy the entire drive contents of a CF card to another location. For example:
Source Location:
e:DCIM
Destination Location:
X:2010-06-01
What I want to do:
- Copy E:*.* to Destination
- The original file structure can stay the same. I want to copy everything from the root of the Source Drive
I can copy the contents if I set source string to e:DCIM.. But I'm concerned that if I get something that doesn't have the first directory (DCIM) it's going to error.

Write A Program That Deletes Temp Files From Entire C Drive?
Jan 21, 2010I am trying to write a program that deletes temp files from my entire c drive. windows 7 will not allow any file manipulation. access denied . everything works fine in windows xp. what needs to be changed in my code to allow anyone to install this program on their computer and run it without errors like this. I need to change my code to correct this not windows 7, as other people will be installing this on their systems and they can't be setting their c drives. every answer i've found online is either to change c drive to have no security or set the code to demand uac to run as administrator(which doesn't work )

I'm trying to write a function that will take a string of "Search Term" and search all mapped entities and return a List(Of Object) that can contain a mixture of entities i.e. if I have a table "Foo" and table "Bar" and search for "wibble", if there is a row in "Foo" and one in "Bar" that contain "wibble" i would like to return a List(Of Object) that contains a "Foo" object and a "Bar" object.

Search An Entire Column For One Or Two Keywords?
Aug 4, 2011I am in the process of creating a program, using Visual Basic Express, for a physics professor who has recently had to rename all 1500 questions for his course. I created a database that has the old names, new names, and the entire contents of each question. The program seemed an easy enough idea, but has proved to be very difficult for me. I am new to programming (this is only my third go at it) and have searched for an answer to my problem for at least 20 hours, and have yet to find anything that will work for what I need.
What I would like is to have a text box in which he can type in a keyword (such as "Sun", "ISS", "Force", etc) and for the program to search throughout the entire "questioncontents" column and pull out any questions that contain those words into the datagrid. As of yet the closest I have gotten is for it to search the first word of the column, which is not very useful since most of them start with "The". I had also thought of creating several keyword columns and then just having it search through those, but I couldn't figure out how to apply the filter to multiple columns.

But if we want to send the entire current log file, how can it be done, short of reading the log file into a string and passing that as an nLog {$message}? It's a program where the user can figure out stats, species, class, etc without having to make any calculations him/herself.. but this will all be in vain without saving it..
So I'd love to know how I could make it so the user can save and load the entire file(including buttons, labels, text boxes, menu strips, possibly multiple forms, etc) on his/her own computer.. Is this possible, and if so, how can I go about this?
I've already searched through and found lots on saving text in the files to .txt files, but that doesn't cover everything I need

Jul 2, 2010I'm having an issue with the streamreader. I had it working but I've changed something and it has stopped.
I have it in a Do While loop reading line by line, but it doesn't finish reading. It reads about 27 lines out of 4000, then stops.
I changed the contents of the file it was reading, but it's still just save as a txt notepad file.
I also changed how I tell it which file to open (UserSelection.T2) however it does open the file just doesn't finish reading it.
Doesn't kick back any errors, it just doesn't read the entire file.

Nov 16, 2010Is there any other way to download a file without the entire program freezing? whenever i call my.computer.network.downloadfile the VB stops furthering to the next code allowing my game to run choppily.
