View 4 RepliesAm writing a windows app using vb.net 2005. The app captures a string variable from the user. As each file within a directory is read, I want to match the stored string within each file. If I find a match to the string, I want a list box to be populated with the name of the file. I have added Imports System.Text.RegularExpressions and tried using the match collection.
For example: My direcotry has 5 text files. I want to match a string "PARENT" in the text of all these 5 files. The list box should output the name of each file where the string was found.
its like this if we think the original textfile like this [its meaning less] dim original as string = "myname is not thename wasthe notthe nameisnot nere!" i want to see what words are recurring, like name, the, was, not but i cant use split(), substring because they may even exist as combined words like thecat and i need to know the number of time it has recurred
View 1 RepliesI have been searching all morning for a sample showing a simple "find" example for an ASP.NET Webform, where a "find" button is used to find a string in a Textbox, and then Highlight it, like Word does. The following VB6 code worked perfectly, but I couldn't find .Selstart or .SelLength properties in the Text property of the ASP.NET textbox.

View 6 RepliesI have a program that will read a text file and put information from the text file into multiple text boxes. What I am trying to do now is be able to change the values in the textboxes and be able to write the specifc changes back to the text file. One way I though of doing that was using a while loop and copy the lines of the text file to another text file, then when it finds the line that has the specific change from the text box, make the change and continue writing the line until it reaches the end of the file. Then I was going to copy the file and overwrite the original, escientally making the change to the new file. Right now it will make the new file but will just make a blank text file. I think the problem is in the while loop statement but I am not sure. Here is the code below:

I have a little question about txt-files...This is the case: I am going to make a small software for editing particular parts in text files, so you don't have to do it by hand. In this program, i need to find several words in a text file and retrieve the text or number that is after the the "="-sign, and then replace that info. Then, I want to use the information it retrieves to add some text in the end of the file.
P.S. There are 36 differet words to search for, and some of them will occur in several places, so i want the data from those words that occur several times in an array. And the data i want to retrieve is AFTER the searchword and a "=", so i dont want the searchword or the equals-sign included. Can someone explain to me how to do this?

I'm currently developing an app which essentially needs a way for me to search in a text box or file for a specific string, and extract the line on which that string appears on. It will be unique, and the syntax is the same on each line. It has basically 2 ID numbers, and is laid out like this:
123456|123456
So, I'd need to search for the first part before the |, and then get the line so I can get the bit after the |, which is the important bit for me.

I am busy with a Project that need to read and write txt files. I have found noumeorous tutorials on how to work with txt files, but none of them explain or or have an example how to do the following:
1) I want to have a button that, when it's clicked, it browse the PC in a specific location for a txt file, and open it in a TextBox1
2) I want to have a button that save text in a specific TextBox as a txt file, and you can name the txt file as you want?
I need to do a query in which I can find all records in a table in which a user enters a search word. The word to be searched for will be a word in a column. If there's a table named solutions and in the table there is a field named description; i need to be able to pull up all records where for example the search word is 'printer' is in the description column. I don't have any code or database structure to show. I first need to know if this can be done. Can someone supply a code snippet example or tell me what SQL keywords will do this, or some pointer?

View 2 RepliesI was using .indexof("myword"), then all of a sudden huge problem and headache... i was using .indexof("produce") and then it kept replacing the word produced cause produce was triggered by the first 7 letters.then i tried to use .contains("produce") and it did the same thing.so basically it doesnt search for the WHOLE word, if a WHOLE WORD begins with the phrase your searching for then it wont work.so how do i search for WHOLE words?
