its like this if we think the original textfile like this [its meaning less] dim original as string = "myname is not thename wasthe notthe nameisnot nere!" i want to see what words are recurring, like name, the, was, not but i cant use split(), substring because they may even exist as combined words like thecat and i need to know the number of time it has recurred

As each file within a directory is read, I want to match the stored string within each file. If I find a match to the string, I want a list box to be populated with the name of the file. I have added Imports System.Text.RegularExpressions and tried using the match collection.
For example: My direcotry has 5 text files. I want to match a string "PARENT" in the text of all these 5 files. The list box should output the name of each file where the string was found.

I'm currently developing an app which essentially needs a way for me to search in a text box or file for a specific string, and extract the line on which that string appears on. It will be unique, and the syntax is the same on each line. It has basically 2 ID numbers, and is laid out like this:
123456|123456
So, I'd need to search for the first part before the |, and then get the line so I can get the bit after the |, which is the important bit for me.

a program is supposed to display the number of times a number occurs in a larger number. For example, iff the user enter 356, its supposed to show the numbers 0 thru 9 and say how many times the number occurs in the program. I am pretty sure somethings wrong with the first For loop, but I am not sure why it doesnt work, all it prints out are zeros.

I'm scanning through all characters in a textbox. Then the program counts how many of each character is in the textbox. Here's the code which adds all characters to a list:

Everything's working fine, except this will also add returns to the list, which I don't want. I thought I could write like this:

I am going to save the information of each user into a text or ".dat" format and have them placed into a folder called "accounts".The small problem that I have is the "Forgot Password" option. I can't think of how to search all the documents for the e-mail or the username.So basically I need to know if it is possible to do a small search for the e-mail through all the documents in the "accounts" folder.
